Story
In your heart, you’re a cat person but you're exploring the possibility of a dog. You are safe here and you have serendipitously stumbled on the perfect combination of the two and her name is Gia. Sure, maybe she can’t climb a tree or catch a mouse if needed but gently perching on the back of the couch or cutely curling up on your bed- she can do that beautifully! Take a look and see some of her cat-like ways here then come back to read more about her. https://youtu.be/jvshNop1-C8 We have all been to someones house who owe know has a cat even though we haven’t seen it and we don’t expect to honestly, its a cat, they can be like that. Another area where Gia identifying as a cat helps us understand her. Like a cat, she has spots. A spot to look out of the window, a spot to sneak off for a nap, a spot she loves to lay with her toys. She is loving and affectionate but isn’t clingy or insistent, just like a cat, she will seek out your love and you will know she is open to all the pets, kisses, and belly rubs. Gia is estimated to be just over a year old and she weighs 26 lbs! I don’t know why but I practically squealed with the number popped up on the scale. It is somehow the most perfect fit for her petite and delicate presence. If you need me to tell you a “breed,” can I just say rescue? If forced to guess we might say maybe some dutch shepherd paired with a tiny terrier? She is a rescue so age and breed are not details we can guarantee but her age is fairly accurate based on records reviewed when she was a puppy. Gia is a girl who will be happiest in a quiet home living a quiet life. Gia often gets to join her foster mom at work and even though she is a good sport, her inner cat would rather be home sleeping. The experience of being a shop dog has been wonderful for her in so many ways but her foster mom can see she isn’t the dog that needs a busy life to be fulfilled. Cats get to stay home, enjoy a quiet house, nap and snack their day away…thats what Gia is seeking. She bonds deeply and has a special way of connecting that has become a wonderful experience for her foster “brother,” the son of her foster mom, who is on the autism spectrum and appreciates Gia’s gentle and calming nature. One of the amazing traits Gia has taken from her “working days” is an incredibly dog and cat friendly approach. There is no urgency in her approach with new dogs or cats and it seems to be easily felt by other animals- fast-tracking the sense of safety and trust. Gia does not need a dog friend in her forever home but would be happy to join a calm, easy-going dog or a cat open to having a comfy connection with a gentle dog. This girl is something special in a quiet whisper sort of way. No big-show, just quiet love that will be happy to live a simple life of love by your side. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
