Story
Chester is a 4-year-old Flat-Coated Retriever with a heart as soft as his fluffy coat. He came to us as a stray alongside two other dogs. While we don’t know much about his past, his gentle nature tells us he’s ready to start a loving new chapter. This sweet boy is a dream on a leash—easy to harness up and walks right by your side without pulling. He enjoys a good romp around the yard, or even an exciting game of fetch, but is just as happy to hang out next to you, soaking up all the pets you’re willing to give. In fact, if you sit with him, he’ll lay calmly by your side for as long as you`ll let him. His energy levels can range from super high when he`s having fun playing around and getting the zoomies, to low when he`s cuddled up next to his favorite people, making him a medium energy pup overall. Chester is polite and well-mannered, especially when it comes to treats—he takes them gently and with those soulful eyes, it`s hard to resist giving him a few extra. He seems to know how to sit on command. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful companion who’s just as happy zooming around the yard as he is snuggled up next to you, Chester might just be your perfect match.Chester is currently staying in a short term foster home. Interested in meeting Chester? Give us a call at 281-342-1512 and will help you get in contact with his foster for a meet and greet!

Story
Meet Baja! This beautiful 52-pound Flat-Coated Retriever mix is a gentle soul. When Baja first arrived at the shelter, she was a bit unsure around people—but it didn’t take long for her to show us she’s no stranger to love. Her manners give it away: she knows how to sit, shake, and lay down, and she takes treats oh-so-gently from your hand. Baja is a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, she becomes incredibly affectionate and loyal. She's the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and thrives with patient, loving humans. She came to us alongside her buddy Blast, a 72-pound Mastiff mix, and has shown she does well with other dogs during her time here. If you’re looking for a sweet, slightly shy, but devoted companion—Baja just might be your girl.

Story
Scooter here! If you're looking for a playful, loving, and smart new bud, look no further. I am all those things and more. I just want someone to give me all the love I deserve and maybe rub my belly from time to time. I am an affectionate boy with lots of love to give. I am also very friendly and get along with everyone I meet. I'm full of energy and love to play, so I'll never turn down an opportunity to chase my squeaky toy or play fetch in the park. Speaking of parks, I'll need plenty of those, as I have a lot of energy to burn and I love to explore new places. I am very curious and have been known to get into a little bit of trouble if I'm not kept occupied, so if you're looking for an adventurous companion, I'm your guy! I am good with other dogs and right now I'm living with other dogs and doing fine. My previous foster said I slept with one of her children, so I'm good with kids, although an older, larger child might be better able to handle my exuberance. I'll also need a secure yard with a 6-foot fence, since I've been known to jump a 4-foot fence in my desire to play and explore. If you're ready for a fun and loving addition to your family, come and meet me today! If you are interested in me, please send an email to SCP! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review! All dogs typically show on Saturdays at the Petco in Clear Lake as well. 2410 Bay Area Blvd near Space Center. Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas.April 30, 2025, 6:24 pm

Story
Hi, I'm Lick! I'm a bundle of joy, full of energy and always ready to play. My days are spent chasing my tail, and my nights are spent dreaming of belly rubs. I'm friendly, too. I love meeting new people and making friends, both human and canine. My world revolves around fetch, tug-of-war, and endless games of chase. I'm a puppy, so I have a lot to learn, but I'm eager to learn it all. I promise to bring joy and laughter to your home. I may not have a home yet, but I have a lot of love to give. Adopt me, and let's make countless happy memories together.
