Meet Zara — Sweet, Silly and So Ready for a Family! Zara is a beautiful 2- to 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound who weighs approximately 50 pounds. She is gentle, affectionate and wonderfully endearing—with a delightfully goofy side that will keep her family smiling! Zara came into our rescue after her owner passed away. She was underweight and had clearly gone without the consistent care and nourishment she deserved. With nutritious food, kindness and a safe place to rest, Zara has blossomed into a healthy, happy girl who appreciates every meal, every loving touch and every cozy spot she can find. And sometimes, Zara makes her own cozy spot! One sunny day, she surprised everyone by climbing onto the table to soak up the warm sunshine. It was a first—and definitely a last—but she looked so comfortable and pleased with herself that we couldn’t help but laugh! That is Zara: sweet, occasionally silly and always entertaining. Zara loves people, although she may be a little shy when first meeting someone new. Give her a little time to feel comfortable, and her affectionate, loyal personality quickly shines through. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats, making her a great addition to a home with other pets. She is generally calm and easygoing and loves lounging on the couch, curling up in a cozy chair or simply being close to her people. Zara has already overcome so much. Now she needs a family who will give her the security, companionship and unconditional love she deserves—a home where she will never again have to wonder when her next meal or loving hug will come.
