You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- JOLENE IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.My adoption fee is sponsored!Hi, I'm Jolene. Living here, I've discovered the joy of companionship, both with my human friends and dog pals. I'm a bit shy at first, but give me a little time, and I'll show you my gentle, sweet nature. I love my quiet moments, maybe in a cozy crate where I feel safe and secure. I dream of a home where I can share my mellow love, maybe with someone who understands that like me, everyone needs a little space sometimes to feel truly at home. If you're looking for a calm, loving friend, I'm your girl. I especially want to be with a doggie pal!To inquire about Jolene, please call 5404681575 or email info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.org*Jolene is spayed 6y 40 lbs. Current Location: York, PA Subject: 🐾 Meet Arkansas (aka Archie): Your New Favorite Head-Tilter! Hi there! I’m Arkansas, but my friends call me Archie. I caught a freedom ride all the way from Mississippi to my foster home in Virginia, and I’m loving every minute of it! I’m a 8-month-old bundle of energy, weighing in at a sturdy 55 lbs. My foster mom says I’m a total "babe magnet"—apparently, it’s impossible to walk down the street without someone commenting on how cute I am. Why I’m a Top-Tier Foster Brother: House Training: I’m doing great with my potty training and I actually love my crate! Smart Cookie: I already know how to "sit" and I’m working hard on my leash skills. Olympic Athlete: I love toys and staying active. My ideal home would have plenty of walks, runs, and playtime to keep me occupied. My Best Features: I have the cutest ears in Virginia (it’s a fact!) and I’m a world champion at the "head tilt" whenever you talk to me. If you’re looking for a busy, happy, and handsome boy to join your adventures, I’m your guy! Ready to meet me? Apply today!

Story
Daisy has been with us for 5 years now and she is one of the best, loving dogs I have ever known. We unfortunately cannot keep her due to busy schedule we have and she deserves so much more attention than she is getting. She is trained, but can use some more training when she’s being walked as she will try to walk you. You cannot help but love her if you love dogs you can’t ask for better. We want a good home where people will provide the love and care she so deserves.

Story
Danya is a gorgeous foxhound with beautiful eyes and a sweet and playful personality.  She is 2 year old, about 40 pounds, and good with cats and dogs.   Danya can be quite a silly girl, and very independent, too.  Danya's ideal home would provide her exercise, preferably in the great outdoors.  She is very food-driven, so you can get her to do most anything once she realizes you are a source of treats.   A fenced yard would be a plus, but her true love is nature and going for walks, where she cant wait to meet new people and dogs, splash in the stream, and search for deer or fox.  She walks fairly well on a leash, but will pull if she sees or smells a deer or fox -- true to her breed. She enjoys getting in the car and traveling with her humans wherever they go.  Danya would love to be your best friend, greet you at the door, take adventures together, and curl up on the couch afterwards.  She enjoys being petted on her head and chin.  So if you're looking for a sweet energetic K9 companion for walking, Danya is your girl.  Danya is caming from a shelter in North Carolina and she is sweet as can be. She has a great personality and great with  dogs and cats with no issues. She is currently in NC and will be arriving on August 1. She will be fostered in a loving home in Maryland.
