Story
Meet COWBOY 🤎 Cowboy is a young mixed breed boy estimated to be around 2 years old, and he’s as handsome as they come! This sweet, loving boy is friendly with both people and other dogs. He has a generally calm demeanor, but he’s always happy to see you — and that excitement sometimes comes out in enthusiastic jumps to say hello. Cowboy is curious, observant, and always taking in the world around him. As for his breed mix… your guess is as good as ours! We suspect he may have some hound in him, possibly a Treeing Walker Coonhound or English Foxhound mix, but what we know for sure is that he’s 100% good boy. • Male mixed breed • Approximately 2 years old • Dog friendly • People friendly • Calm overall with happy, excited greetings • Curious and observant • Possibly hound mix (Treeing Walker Coonhound / English Foxhound type) Cowboy is ready to find a forever home where his sweet nature and big heart can shine. 🐾 If interested in learning more about COWBOY, please complete our adoption application linked on this page or email us at unitingtosaveanimals@gmail.com

Story
Meet Tilly the American Foxhound who was rescued from a shelter in Va. She was part of an animal control seizure of a home of 10 hounds back in February. She has been sitting in the shelter waiting for a home since then, We rescued her and she is about the sweetest dog there is...she loves people, dogs and even getting used to cats. She loves to be outdoors as true to her breed of a hound. Loves her walks but happy to be inside in the heat of summer too.She is about 45lbs and 3 years old. She was used as a hunting dog, and had a number painted on her side. They removed that and she is hunting her way to a new home. She always wears a smile as she is so happy to be out of the shelter. If interested in Tilly, please contact us. ##2756691##

Story
Trueno (“Thunder” in Spanish) is a young dog who is struggling with the shelter environment, but continuing to show promising progress with patient, positive handling.Since intake, Trueno has shown fear and anxiety, particularly around leashing, sudden movement, and unfamiliar people. However, staff have consistently observed that he responds well to calm interactions, treats, gentle encouragement, and low-pressure handling. Over time, he has begun approaching handlers willingly, taking treats softly, engaging in training games, and allowing increased handling. Trueno has also shown the ability to recover, re-engage, and settle with experienced guidance and management.Trueno recently participated in a playgroup with other dogs and did well overall, displaying a gentle/dainty play style and social behavior. Staff noted that maintaining positive, structured interactions helped him succeed.Trueno is a year and 7 months young, neutered male listed as an American Foxhound. Tested negative for HW and is up to date on Rabies, DAPP, Bordetella vaccinations, and microchipped. Weight at time of neuter was 61.2 lbs.More photos of Trueno having fun in playgroup can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/refDFhkvbhTGV7Ky7Underneath the fear is a sensitive, social young dog who is trying hard to trust. Can you help Trueno continue on his confidence-building journey?Photos in doggie playgroup: https://photos.app.goo.gl/refDFhkvbhTGV7Ky7

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- JOLENE IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.My adoption fee is sponsored!Hi, I'm Jolene. Living here, I've discovered the joy of companionship, both with my human friends and dog pals. I dream of a home where I can share my mellow love, maybe with someone who understands that like me, everyone needs a little space sometimes to feel truly at home. If you're looking for a calm, loving friend, I'm your girl. I especially want to be with a doggie pal!To inquire about Jolene, please call 5404681575 or email info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.org*Jolene is spayed 6y 40 lbs. Mack is a young, male Treeing Walker Coonhound estimated to be around 2 years old, and he’s a big, handsome guy at about 70 pounds. Brody is a big, lean boy at about 65 pounds, with a beautiful buff-colored coat that really shows off his houndy good looks. He can be a little revved up in his kennel, but once he’s out and settled, his true personality shines. In our photo area, Brody relaxed quickly and made it clear that what he wants most is love—lots of it. He is a friendly, affectionate “leaner” who loves to press in close and soak up attention. Brody is very people-centered, enjoys being around his humans, and is both dog and people friendly. He thrives on interaction and would love a home where he can be included as part of the family. Brody is a sweet, loving guy who will make a wonderful companion for someone looking for an affectionate, social dog with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be loved. Brody is up to date on all required vaccines and will be neutered prior to adoption. Meet CLUTCH – A Total Love Bug Looking for His Forever Home! If you're searching for a loyal companion with a gentle heart, soft ears, and endless affection to give, Clutch may be your perfect match! Clutch is a young Treeing Walker Coonhound, estimated to be around 1 year old, and weighs 61 pounds—the lower end of large size. This handsome boy came to us in December 2025 and has been patiently waiting far too long for someone to see just how special he is. We believe Clutch was surrendered by a hunter, possibly because he wasn't interested in hunting. Their loss is absolutely someone else's gain. After spending months waiting for a home, Clutch deserves a couch to curl up on, people to adore, and a family that will love him for exactly who he is—a sweet, affectionate, gentle soul with so much love left to give. Could Clutch be the missing piece in your family? Come meet this handsome boy and see why everyone who knows him falls in love.
