Our sweet Gomer was picked up by a local animal control the day before Christmas Eve 2024. He was very thin but happy to see everyone. Every time someone walked by his kennel he ran to the front hoping that someone was coming for him. He had intestinal parasites, wasn’t neutered, had several masses, had terrible teeth, and was heart worm positive. Most of his issues have been treated. He has finished his heart worm treatment and will have his dental in February 2026. At first he didn’t respond to us when we took him out after pulling him from the shelter. It didn’t take him long to realize that living inside with folks who loved him was a dream come true. He likes to lay around with his buddy Gus and wander and sniff in the yard. We’ve discovered that he is an escape artist if he sees something that interests him. He can open latches on gates and climb a chain link fence. He will need a 6 ft privacy fence and a family who will be very diligent about watching over him. He is a fireplace dog who loves to chill with his other foster sibs and is learning basic cues. We don’t know how he is with cats. He would love a home with people who will love him for the rest of his life, taking him on sniffy walks and include him in family adventures. Thankfully CCRT was asked to assist and we trapped her during a snow storm. She was quite the survivor on her own. Pinto is very shutdown. She handles well but alligator rolls on a leash still and is uncomfortable with handling. She is not reactive just shuts down. She adores other dogs and loved her freedom at CCRT of being in a kennel or 24/7 access to a play yard. She will need a very patient and educated home to allow her proper decompression and socialization Pinto Bean has scored a great foster home in NY but still not brave enough to interact with the family and new surroundings yet.

Meet Fred! This very active younger hound is on the search for his perfect family. Fred was part of a recent transfer from our friends at PETA after being found in very poor living conditions with many other hounds. Since Fred has never lived with children we will require children in his future home be 10 and up. Fred has been very selective about other canines and still needs some work with proper socializing so we will require any resident canines to visit prior to adoption. This may take a few introductions to make sure Fred is a good match. Fred has been doing very well with his active canine friends he has made here at the shelter. He is also heartworm positive but not to worry our friends at PETA will be covering the cost of his heartworm treatment. Adopters should be prepared to bring Fred back to the VBSPCA Clinic to complete his treatment. Staff will be happy to discuss what this process looks like when you visit.
