Story
Meet Florence! This 3 year old hound is bound to steal your heart. She is the perfect mix of goofball and lovebug, always ready for a stroll outside or a snuggle on the couch. She is great with other dogs and has been a fabulous dog-tester here at the shelter. Similarly, she is especially gentle with children and has visited many of our kids` events. This sweet girl is bound to bring smiles and laughter into your heart and home - especially when she gets the zoomies out of nowhere! Foster Notes: - She is fantastic with dogs and loves playing with mine. She has no issues with sharing toys or getting treats together.- She is great with cats! She tries to get them to play, but is very polite about giving them their space when they don’t wanna engage with her.- She is fully house trained and has had zero accidents in the house since I’ve had her. She whines at the door when she needs to go out.- She absolutely loves the snow and her favorites treats are ice cubes from the freezer.- Florence loves to play and is also a fantastic snuggle buddy! She’ll tuck herself right into your side at night and doze off.

Story
Our sweet Gomer was picked up by a local animal control the day before Christmas Eve 2024.  He was very thin but happy to see everyone.  Every time someone walked by his kennel he ran to the front hoping that someone was coming for him.  He had intestinal parasites, wasn’t neutered, had several masses, had terrible teeth, and was heart worm positive.  Most of his issues have been treated.  He has finished his heart worm treatment and will have his dental in February 2026.  At first he didn’t respond to us when we took him out after pulling him from the shelter.  It didn’t take him long to realize that living inside with folks who loved him was a dream come true.  He likes to lay around with his buddy Gus and wander and sniff in the yard.  We’ve discovered that he is an escape artist if he sees something that interests him.  He can open latches on gates and climb a chain link fence.  He will need a 6 ft privacy fence and a family who will be very diligent about watching over him.  He is a fireplace dog who loves to chill with his other foster sibs and is learning basic cues.   We don’t know how he is with cats.   He would love a home with people who will love him for the rest of his life, taking him on sniffy walks and include him in family adventures.  If you are that special family who would love this boy forever, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.comJanuary 1, 2026, 1:52 pm

Story
Estrella/Stella is a sweet, gentle 2-year-old girl currently in foster care in Virginia Beach, and she’s ready for a family of her own.  &#226&#156&#168 About Estrella/Stella:  • 45 lbs, spayed  • 4DX negative and on monthly preventatives  • Great with dogs and cats (would do best with a furry friend) • Shy at first, especially around men, but warms up beautifully with patience and consistency  • Treat-motivated and eager to learn  Estrella was left tied to a rescue’s gate as a puppy and spent nearly two years in the rescue in Puerto Rico. Despite this, she has come an incredibly long way. She recently completed two months in a confidence-building training program, and her foster/adopter will receive insights from that training to help her continue moving forward.   Life in foster: Estrella is affectionate once she feels safe and loves being with other dogs. She ignores cats, is crate trained (still curious and occasionally mischievous when left out of crate).  She is calm during fireworks and storms, which is a wonderful bonus. She remains wary of men, but she is making progress—she has recently jumped up to sit near her foster dad on the couch, which is a big step for her. Leash confidence outside the yard is still a work in progress, and she does best with a harness and slip collar. Estrella is not a “just anyone” dog. She needs a kind, patient, understanding adopter who will let her move at her own pace. For the right person, Estrella will offer quiet devotion, loyalty, and a deep, meaningful bond.  If your dog wants a dog and you are willing to give a deserving dog the time she needs to understand she is safe then please reach out about this beautiful island girl.   Apply to adopt:  https://islanddogrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7208   Click an image to complete one of our adoption applications today!             January 21, 2026, 2:18 pm

She was trapped by animal control and gave birth to 5 boys 4 days after. This was all traumatic to her and very stressful. She was a great mom and now deserves someone special like herself. She is walking much better on a leash now and not flinching as much with touch. She will require an experienced handler only because shes so nervous. She has zero aggression. Wilda does open up around other dogs. She enjoys being a follower and when she trusts you, its a great feeling. A dog like wilda will bond so strongly to her person and make you feel like your the only person on this planet.

When they were shut down due to violations I went to pull some dogs for another organization and saw this pretty face waiting to be saved with a time stamp over her head....of course she came with! Howlena was certainly a hunting dog prior and enjoys scents and has the urge to track scents. She would do best in a home that can take her for adventures, nose work so she can feel satisfied with "hunting", and a comfy bed to finish off her days. She is the QUEEN of zoomies, very fast and its so fun to watch her have fun. She has her "go" but also her "whoa" where she is ready to snuggle ON you on the coach. She is not vocal and very loyal, loving, and sweet
