Story
Our sweet Gomer was picked up by a local animal control the day before Christmas Eve 2024.  He was very thin but happy to see everyone.  Every time someone walked by his kennel he ran to the front hoping that someone was coming for him.  He had intestinal parasites, wasn’t neutered, had several masses, had terrible teeth, and was heart worm positive.  Most of his issues have been treated.  He has finished his heart worm treatment and will have his dental in February 2026.  At first he didn’t respond to us when we took him out after pulling him from the shelter.  It didn’t take him long to realize that living inside with folks who loved him was a dream come true.  He likes to lay around with his buddy Gus and wander and sniff in the yard.  We’ve discovered that he is an escape artist if he sees something that interests him.  He can open latches on gates and climb a chain link fence.  He will need a 6 ft privacy fence and a family who will be very diligent about watching over him.  He is a fireplace dog who loves to chill with his other foster sibs and is learning basic cues.   We don’t know how he is with cats.   He would love a home with people who will love him for the rest of his life, taking him on sniffy walks and include him in family adventures.  If you are that special family who would love this boy forever, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.comMarch 10, 2026, 12:08 am

Story
MEADOW - 1-5 yrs old, 45 pounds, playful, dog tolerant, activeMeadow is a lanky sort of hound-girl who arrived at VBACAC as a stray with a canine companion, Miles. She is thin and although barky behind the cage bars, she is friendly and inquisitive outside. She can take her time meeting new people, that's ok bc given that time, she'll learn she can trust you. She's also a sniffer, like all good hounds are, curious about where she is and what's going on around her.We have introduced her to our shelter playgroup dogs and she seems to like pushing and barking at other dogs with the purpose getting them to run. That's what she wants, to run!We are happily learning about Meadow and as we do, we will update this bio. Until then, however, come on out to meet her if you think she's meant for you! She does best with a "pack" Cat friendly: yes Kid friendly: she has no aggression but loud kids may scare her Temperament: submissive, gentle, playful, fun Adoption fee: 275 Available for adoption anywhere in the US and Canada with transport provided at no extra cost Currently located in West Point VA Application link: http://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/VACC/Dog Sweet mama Wilda was trapped by animal control very pregnant and 3 days later had 5 puppies. She was terrified in the loud shelter so CCRT came to scoop her and her 12 hour old pups. While in foster she is finally learning to enjoy life. Wilda was semi feral when she came into our care and made little progress at Cliff's Cottage (our kennel). She has blossomed at her foster home and even learning to play. She will take a very patient home that will give her the proper time and space to learn humans are okay. She must go into a home with atleast 1 other dog

Cureently receiving treatent. CCRT covers cost of treatment until tested negative! Energy Level: average House trained: yes zero accidents Crate trained: yes Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: is in a foster home with cats to learn not to chase. Kid friendly: yes Temperament: outgoing yet a little timid, loving, sweet Adoption fee: 275 Available for adoption anywhere in the US and Canada with transport provided at no extra cost Currently located in Chesapeake VA Application link: http://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/VACC/Dog Howlena came from the sad situation at the NENC SPCA. When they were shut down due to violations I went to pull some dogs for another organization and saw this pretty face waiting to be saved with a time stamp over her head....of course she came with! Howlena was certainly a hunting dog prior and enjoys scents and has the urge to track scents. She would do best in a home that can take her for adventures, nose work so she can feel satisfied with "hunting", and a comfy bed to finish off her days. She is the QUEEN of zoomies, very fast and its so fun to watch her have fun. She has her "go" but also her "whoa" where she is ready to snuggle ON you on the coach. She is not vocal and very loyal, loving, and sweet

Story
Meet Oliver 🐾Oliver is an almost 7 y’o Basset Hound/Mini Australian Shepherd mix who is incredibly loyal and loving with his people. He’s a gentle, affectionate companion and has been amazing with our three young children—patient, calm, and sweet. He thrives when someone is home often, as he can have separation anxiety and may bark or get into things if left alone too long. Oliver is also very protective of his home and family. He can be wary of strangers and needs slow, careful introductions and clear boundaries (he is very over protective of his home & family—he takes his role as guard dog very seriously) but once he feels safe, he becomes a big, loving teddy bear.Oliver would do best in a home with minimal visitors, someone home most of the day, and an owner willing to work with him or experienced with protective dogs. This is a hard decision, and we’re hoping to find him a home where he can truly thrive.

Story
Meet Daisy Belle ❤️Some dogs come into your life with a story. Daisy Belle came with a mystery. She was found in a very remote area on a farm, and no one knows how she ended up there. What we do know is that whoever adopts Daisy Belle will be gaining an absolute treasure. At 28 pounds of pure love, Daisy Belle is one of the sweetest, most affectionate dogs you'll ever meet. She bonds quickly and deeply with her people and simply wants to be where you are. Whether you're relaxing on the couch, working around the house, or settling in for the night, Daisy Belle is happiest by your side. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, never causing a fuss. If another pet wants to play, she's happy to join in. If not, she's perfectly content to go with the flow. Her easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion in a variety of households. Daisy Belle loves treats, looks forward to every meal, and has excellent house manners. She is fully potty trained, happily goes outside to do her business, and comes right back in. At bedtime, she loves to snuggle and sleeps soundly through the night. While Daisy Belle isn't a fan of being crated, she doesn't need one. She is well-behaved in the home and doesn't spend her time getting into mischief. She can stay home alone when necessary, but she would thrive with a family where someone is around much of the time. More than anything, she loves companionship and being part of the daily routine. As for her breed mix, your guess is as good as ours! She appears to be a unique combination of Basset Hound and Boxer or perhaps Basset Hound and Bulldog. Whatever her DNA may say, the result is a one-of-a-kind girl with a big heart, a charming personality, and plenty of love to give. Daisy Belle's beginnings may be a mystery, but her future is easy to imagine: curled up beside the people she loves, finally home where she belongs.   Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in helping this girl!!!!!!  PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.June 17, 2026, 3:33 pm
