Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treewalker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 22, 2025, 9:52 pm

Story
We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them. Clearly. Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run. At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary - a running narration of life as your shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and endlessly loyal - the sort of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time.He isn’t built for chaos. Shelter life proved that. But in a steady, loving home, Parker is a revelation: funny, affectionate, devoted. Originally surrendered when his owner’s medical condition made it impossible for her to keep him, Parker is now waiting for the person who sees his sensitivity not as a flaw but as the very thing that makes him extraordinary. If you’re looking for a sidekick who will keep you company through every room, every mood, and every moment, Parker is waiting.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. PLEASE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET HIM. Email contact@animalaidsociety.org, or call 757-865-0511Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Story
LUCKY LOVER BOY - 8 years old, 20 pounds, house trained, friendly, happy, playful, sad without Poppy   POPPY - 7 years old, 12 pounds, house trained, friendly, snuggly, independent, hunting tendencies   Two peas in a pod! I found two super friendly and happy pups in Lucky Lover Boy and Poppy.   They both are active and playful and love to be around their humans. Poppy, however, seems to be more of the 'hunter' where she sniffs and sniffs and travels when she sniffs while Lucky Lover Boy will be the one to run back to you first.   Both are easy on the leash. They enjoy walks and are used to going on daily walks.   They both are house trained but may have accidents if they are left too long. Both can be trusted roaming free in the home when left alone.   These two are playful and enjoy playing with all kinds of toys.   Lucky Lover Boy is the larger of two, if you can call him large. LOL At a mere 20 pounds, he has the usual tri-color fur and a big round belly. Poppy is petite with black and brown fur. She's so little, her face was lost in some of the tall grass when she was sniffing.   I had a great time meeting them and I know you will have a great time as well.   They are currently in our small dog adoption kennel. Come on out and ask to meet them!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 10, 2025, 6:20 pm

Story
FOSTER UPDATE: Max (Maximus) has been in foster with us for well over a year.  While he is cute, sweet and goofy, Max is not for everyone. Max deals with high anxiety and separation anxiety (he's not destructive), and has very sensitive hearing (which escalates his anxiety). He exhibits his anxiety and sensitivity to noises by barking, whining and pacing until the cause of the anxiety disappears or he is otherwise comforted. He will not do well in a noisy home, which includes homes with young children (their natural exuberance and toys would be too much for him). He will not do well in a condo, townhouse, or other multi-family housing; and he will not do well near a busy street (too much noise). Max would like his fur-ever person to be with him a lot (he wants to go everywhere his person goes), and, if his person does have to leave him, he would prefer his fur-ever home to have a doggy companion (who tolerates his anxiety) to comfort him.    Max does better when he has a routine.  He is house-trained, loves frozen pup cups and belly rubs, enjoys car rides, loves walks (he would probably love someone to teach him how to run a few miles on quiet running trails each morning, which may help with his anxiety) and exploring (the hound in him necessitates stopping to smell everything), and he just really wants to be with his person (whether being a couch potato, or getting out and about; however, this also means he is going to get underfoot as he will want to follow his person if he thinks his person is leaving him). Max does not like being surprised by unknown people "just appearing" (e.g., people working drive-thru windows, curbside grocery pickup employees loading groceries in the back of the car, people appearing on the front porch, etc.), and while he gets along with other dogs and loves attention from people, he does not like people walking dogs (yet does fine in stores, at festivals, etc. where there are lots of people escorting their pups (this may be because he sees them first/approaches them, as opposed to them “just appearing”)). He is an all-American mutt, and his DNA results identified 15 different breeds:  Norwegian Elkhound (30%), Chi. (17%), Labrador Retriever (15%), Rat Terrier (10%), Treeing Walker Coonhound (4%), American Hairless Terrier (3%), Toy Fox Terrier (3%), Flat-Coated Retriever (3%), Plott Hound (3%), American Foxhound (2%), Miniature American Shepherd (2%), Dandie Dinmont Terrier (2%), Parson Russell Terrier (2%), MinPin (2%), and Portuguese Podengo Pequeno (2%). Think Max is a perfect match for you? Contact the shelter to get in touch with Max's foster to talk more!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:03 pm
