Story
🐾 Meet Nugget: The Golden-Hearted Hound!Nugget is a stunning 6-year-old hound searching for his forever home. This sweet, healthy boy (neutered, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated) was rescued four years ago, but his owner’s health challenges mean he now needs a more active lifestyle. Why You’ll Love Him:• Social Star: He’s a "professional greeter" who believes every human should be greeted with a hug. He loves going to the dog park! • Polished Manners: Fully potty/crate trained and knows his commands. • Active Companion: He’s the perfect partner for hikers or runners. His Ideal Match:Nugget needs a home with a fenced-in backyard to satisfy his "zoomies." Because he prefers not to share toys or snacks, he requires an adults-only environment (teenagers are okay). He is currently staying with family while awaiting his "pawfect" match. His current family loves him dearly and requests an open adoption to stay updated on his adventures!

Story
Our sweet Gomer was picked up by a local animal control the day before Christmas Eve 2024.  He was very thin but happy to see everyone.  Every time someone walked by his kennel he ran to the front hoping that someone was coming for him.  He had intestinal parasites, wasn’t neutered, had several masses, had terrible teeth, and was heart worm positive.  Most of his issues have been treated.  He has finished his heart worm treatment and will have his dental in February 2026.  At first he didn’t respond to us when we took him out after pulling him from the shelter.  It didn’t take him long to realize that living inside with folks who loved him was a dream come true.  He likes to lay around with his buddy Gus and wander and sniff in the yard.  We’ve discovered that he is an escape artist if he sees something that interests him.  He can open latches on gates and climb a chain link fence.  He will need a 6 ft privacy fence and a family who will be very diligent about watching over him.  He is a fireplace dog who loves to chill with his other foster sibs and is learning basic cues.   We don’t know how he is with cats.   He would love a home with people who will love him for the rest of his life, taking him on sniffy walks and include him in family adventures.  If you are that special family who would love this boy forever, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.comMarch 10, 2026, 12:08 am

Story
MEADOW - 1-5 yrs old, 45 pounds, playful, dog tolerant, activeMeadow is a lanky sort of hound-girl who arrived at VBACAC as a stray with a canine companion, Miles. She is thin and although barky behind the cage bars, she is friendly and inquisitive outside. She can take her time meeting new people, that's ok bc given that time, she'll learn she can trust you. She's also a sniffer, like all good hounds are, curious about where she is and what's going on around her.We have introduced her to our shelter playgroup dogs and she seems to like pushing and barking at other dogs with the purpose getting them to run. That's what she wants, to run!We are happily learning about Meadow and as we do, we will update this bio. Until then, however, come on out to meet her if you think she's meant for you! SAY HI TO SAMSON!Playful, calm with children, house trained and a great walking companion all describe 7+ year old SAMSON.To be direct, Samson is the bomb. He loves to play with all kinds of toys - plush, squeaky, tug, balls. Running and exercising those long legs is also a favorite pastime. Samson enjoys walking around the neighborhood with his family - it's a lot of fun as is going for car rides to exciting new places. As long as he's with his people, he's good.Samson is not a fan of other dogs - just not his thing. And there you go! At 55 pounds and counting it's time for Samson to be free from living behind shelter bars and get back into a loving and attentive home. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 50

She was terrified in the loud shelter so CCRT came to scoop her and her 12 hour old pups. While in foster she is finally learning to enjoy life. Wilda was semi feral when she came into our care and made little progress at Cliff's Cottage (our kennel). She has blossomed at her foster home and even learning to play. She will take a very patient home that will give her the proper time and space to learn humans are okay. She must go into a home with atleast 1 other dog

Story
We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them.Clearly.Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run.At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary -- a running narration of life as your devoted shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and deeply loyal -- the kind of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time. What Parker has taught us is this: he isn’t built for chaos. He doesn’t thrive in busy households, and he’s not comfortable living with other pets or children. Leashed walks and unfamiliar environments increase his anxiety -- Parker is a homebody who feels safest when the world is small, predictable, and kind. He doesn’t need adventures. He needs consistency, patience, and a person who understands that love doesn’t always look loud.If you’re looking for a steady presence rather than a whirlwind, a loyal shadow rather than a social butterfly, Parker may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. PLEASE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET HIM.Email contact@animalaidsociety.org, or call 757-865-0511Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
