Meet Gentleman!🤵Looking for a Gentleman to join you this holiday season? This special man is looking for a home to call his own for the holidays. Gentleman is just as his name suggests, he is a smart, distinguished boy with a big heart and lots of love to share. While we love him dearly, Gentleman has spent quite a bit of time with us here, and we would all love nothing more than for him to begin his next chapter and settle into his forever home for the holidays. Finding this special man a home where he can chase a ball, go for quiet, peaceful walks and then cuddle up at your side as your new best friend would make all our Christmas wishes come true!Gentleman has been working very hard to live up to his name. With daily training sessions to perfect his manners, he has made wonderful progress. He can be unsure of new people, and his new family must be committed to continuing to support him in his training as he learns to navigate the world calmly and politely. The ideal adopter would be willing to come meet Gentleman a few times before he is ready to head off to his new life.Like many distinguished gentlemen, our Gentleman has quite the refined palate. Due to severe allergies, he must maintain a strict hypoallergenic diet to keep him looking and feeling his best. Additionally, he is on a daily allergy medication to keep him feeling good and prevent any allergy flare ups. Adopters must be prepared for the costs associated with these medical needs. If you think Gentleman sounds like the guy for you please fill out an application today!1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or2.)Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.*Side note: the more you add to your application about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters! Story
*Currently fostered in Houston Texas, available for out of state adoptions via rescue transportation. Video meet and greet available prior to commitment* This dog is a collaborative effort between Moka's Mission and Houston Chow Chow Connection. Mocha is a fluffy mixed pup just eager to find her new lease in life. She was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas just moments before being euthanized. She is believed to be around 4 years old, and based on behaviors definitely has GSD, Chow Chow, and even possibly husky mixed in her as well. Current weight around 65, 70 lbs. Mocha is a smiling, eager to please, extremely intelligent pup who clearly has been desperate for reaching a potential that was never offered to her prior. She loves to play with toys now, ( was unfamiliar with on arrival) and can be quirky, and vocal during her playful bouts. A game of tug which result in some head pats is her favorite. She also is very smart, and when given attention and motivation is quick to learn. She already knows several basic commands including sit, shake, kennel, wait, settle, and leave it. She is extremely versatile and once she trusts you, will give you her best. If you want to go hiking or exercise, she is all about it. If you want a pup to relax in the home and enjoy a movie day, she is ready! She loves to curl up on the couch or at your feet when it's time to settle down, but when it's time to go she is the first one to be there and ready for you. She also loves to keep you company while you do the most menial house chore's such as laundry or dishes. Mocha clearly was kept away from other dogs and animals when she was owned previously, so we do think she'd be best as an only pup. Proper continued socialization training would be required in order for her to eventually be able to share space with other dogs, but she would need to be socialized as an only dog first before considering adding another in. She clearly has a desire to want to know other dogs and can walk by them and flirt while on leash just fine during walks. However, she hasn't had enough time and proper playmates to engage in playtime at present without being rough. Unfortunately, she is not ok with cats, which is to be expected of the breeds she possesses. Mocha is fully vetted meaning she is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and on monthly prevention for flea, tick, and heartworm. Her adoption fee and transport is dependent on services used. For more information on Mocha, please contact us at MokasMission@Gmail.com, or to apply for adoption please fill out an application here: https://form.jotform.com/41173109602142

Story
Looking for a loyal, loving companion to ring in the new year with? Meet Douglas! Douglas is a young German Shepherd full of energy and potential. He loves exploring the great outdoors, and would be a fantastic running, hiking, or camping buddy for an active guardian. Douglas is as smart as a whip and highly treat-motivated, so training with him is a total pleasure. He does have a passion for chasing birds, squirrels, and other small animals, and he doesn't mind scaling a fence or two in the process. When Douglas isn't exploring the great outdoors, he enjoys carrying around the largest squeaky toy he can find, chewing on bully sticks, and rearranging his blankets into the perfect fort to snuggle up into. Doug gets along well with other dogs, although his exuberant play style might be a bit much for more frail or nervous pups. He has also lived in a home with older, dog-savvy children. Want to learn more about Douglas? Come visit him at the Vancouver SPCA today! Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. Story
Dove is a 4-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix with a very soft, sensitive soul. She is quite shy and uncertain in new situations and is very much a work in progress. When she feels overwhelmed, Dove tends to cower and looks to her people for comfort and reassurance. With a gentle, patient approach, she does allow affection and finds comfort in calm, quiet interactions. Ideal Home Dove will need a very understanding adopter who recognizes that she is a special-needs dog and is committed to helping her feel safe in the world. She requires a calm, predictable home where her world can be kept small at first, with new experiences introduced slowly and thoughtfully. A confident, friendly dog in the home would be a big benefit for Dove, as she gains reassurance and confidence from other dogs. That said, we are open to applications from homes without another dog, as long as the adopter understands that her training and confidence-building may take more time and patience. Dove will not be placed with young children, older teenagers may be fine but within a quiet household. Because fearful dogs can panic and bolt when uncertain, Dove will need an adopter who is diligent about safety, secure doors and fences, and proper leash management at all times. Training Dove will need continued confidence-building through positive reinforcement, gentle encouragement, and consistent routines. Dove is treat-motivated and enjoys working for food, which will be a great tool for building trust and confidence. Her gentle nature and soulful eyes make her incredibly endearing to those who take the time to get to know her. She will benefit from: Positive, reward-based training Patience and reassurance during new experiences Slow introductions to new people, places, and routines Ongoing confidence-building exercises Dove has not yet been cat tested; we will update her profile as we learn more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ready to Apply? If you would like to meet Dove, please download an application from our website at: vancouver.ca/adoption-form Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes. Children: Age+16 Cats: Unknown Dogs: Yes Training Needs: Confidence Building Adoption Fee: $114 due to special needs If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.
