Story
This sweet dog is Alfie. He loves playing fetch with his ball and tug with his rope. He is very loveable and has a sweet nature and is such a happy dog. He is very active and loves to run around and is looking for a forever home. He is a male German Shepard mix and is estimated to be around one year old. To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org

Story
Meet Smokey Handsome Smokey was surrendered with his mate JoJo when their mama lost her home. Loving them so much she asked us if we could find them a forever loving homes. Since arriving both dogs have been super sweet, although a little confused. Smokey is about two years old. He’s a shepherd mix. He has a happy smile and an earnest expression. Smokey is friendly and loves people and he likes other dogs. He likes to chase small animals, and will do best in a home without kitties. Smokey is house trained, but is not crate trained. He loves running in the play yard. He walks well on a leash and enjoys traveling. Smokey loves chewing on his toys and playing. He loves being with JoJo, and we think the two are a bonded pair and should be adopted together. Smokey and JoJo are great dogs, ready to get a second chance and find their forever home. They will make for wonderful family companions. If interested, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are being scheduled by appointment only. Please email us or complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can. Story
Boss is a special boy who needs a special adopter. Boss is almost 2 years old (May 2023), neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. Boss was found by a good samaritan who brought him home where Boss lived with another female dog who was his alpha, two small dogs, cats and a toddler. When the female dog got adopted Boss became fearful - he was just a goofy, scared older puppy when found and then lost his alpha. As such, he began to act out and became more than his foster family could handle. We think Boss is a German Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix so needs mental stimulation and exercise. Boss is currently living with a dog trainer and is doing great. He's learned basic obedieance as well as walking great on a leash and is finally comfortable in his crate. (He was terrified of a crate when first found. In fact he was terrified of ceiling fans - anything over his head made him very nervous.) We don't know what happened to this boy in the past but his future is looking up! His trainer has suggested he be an only dog in the home and no small children - he doesn't know his size and may knock smaller children down. His trainer will teach potential adopters the commands and how to set boundaries, etc. as we all want Boss to be successful when transitioning to his forever home.  From his trainer: "He's a very very good boy and likes to please, but also can be a bit pushy and needs a handler that stays firm on boundaries. Once he knows he can't try anything with you, he's perfect. " Sounds like a German Shepherd/Cattle Dog  behavior to us!! To meet Boss, please submit an adoption application at www.dirtroaddoggiesrescue.org Submitting an application does not commit you to adopt. Boss is so worth it! ##1379170##
