Riley is a very sweet dog. We love him, but he likes to loafer. He goes to our neighbor's house a lot and we worry about him getting hit. He needs to be with somebody who has a fenced yard. He loves outdoors. He loves to run. If he would just stay home we would never want to get rid of him. He is a very big dog. I think he was 102 pounds at his last vets visit. His rabies shot is current. He is very strong. Riley was given to us as a puppy. His birthday is 12/31/22. Riley loves to go for rides. He will go everywhere with you. He does not meet a stranger. He will be your best friend immediately. This is a very hard decision for us. Please only contact us if Riley could be in a fenced yard and if you'd be ok with him going everywhere with you. We would really like him to be adopted by someone in the Ball Ground area. We would like to get to come visit him from time to time with advanced notice of course. We wouldn't drive you crazy but would just like an occasional text and picture.

This lovely GSD is Nelly! She arrived at the shelter as a lost girl on 1/4, and no one has come to reclaim her. We're surprised no one is missing Nelly; she sure is a nice dog! The volunteers describe her as friendly and attentive. She walks great on leash and sits nicely for treats. If you're looking for a mature dog without the crazy puppy antics, please come meet Nelly. Nelly is approximately 9 years old, and weighs 63 lbs. She is UTD on vaccines, and she will be spayed and microchipped upon adoption. Unfortunately, Nelly did test positive for heartworms, but with proper treatment and care she can go on to live a long and healthy life. Please speak with shelter staff about the option of fostering to adopt while she receives treatment. Nelly is waiting patiently in kennel 76; her ID # is 16153. He is 3 years old and well-maintained. We have had him since he was born. He is a house dog, but his breed can likely adapt to an outdoor environment. Often, my son took him camping with him, so he could be a good hunting dog, if needed. I am unable to care for him because my son has left for college. I no longer have the time or financial resources to devote to his needs. He is well-maintained (pictures attached) with all his vaccinations up to date. He is loving and good with kids. Although he has been a house dog, his breed is adaptable. He has no fleas, worms, or disabilities, and he is a very good dog. Remi needs a home ASAP. I had to move due to divorce and unable to keep her at my new place due to her size. The landlord is only letting me keep her a short while until I can find a new home! She is 100Lbs of pure love. Remi was born 2/14/23. She knows basic commands like sit, lay down, stay and wait. She is house and create trained. Remi is great with other dogs and loves kids. She is sweet, goofy and loves to play. I joke she is my 100lb lap dog because she is a cuddler that does not realize how big she is. She is up do date on all vaccines including distemper. Ritz arrived at the shelter in June of 2025 as a precious 6 month old German shepherd mix puppy who had been thrown from a moving vehicle. Luckily he was not injured and he didn’t let this dampen his sweet personality. Ritz was quickly adopted and but was returned to the shelter six months later by his family. Volunteers can't understand how they could give him up, but young dogs require a lot of attention and exercise and perhaps the family was too busy. Ritz is playful and knows how to sit, and he's eager to learn and be a good companion. He is up to date on his vaccinations, heartworm negative, and already neutered and microchipped.
