Story

Meet Astro! A smart, beautiful, house-trained German Shepherd, possibly mixed with Great Pyrenees, turning 6 this December. He’s family-oriented, loving, gentle, and especially wonderful with children! Astro loves playing ball in the yard, going for walks, being around people, and soaking up affection. He may look intimidating, but underneath that big, strong appearance is a sweetheart who just wants his ears and chest rubbed! This is a heartbreaking decision because Astro is loved, and I never imagined having to rehome him. Unfortunately, my work now requires me to be away for long periods, and he deserves more time, attention, and companionship than I can consistently give him. My greatest wish is to find Astro a loving FAMILY home where he can be part of everyday life, surrounded by people who will love him, include him, and give him the forever home he deserves. Please, serious and loving families only. This isn’t just about finding him a home; it’s about finding him a family.

Story

Kodiak - 23169 - Kennel 855 - Arrived October 6, 2026, as a stray - German Shepherd - black and tan - male - Estimated 8 years old - 56 lbs - Up to date on vaccines - Heartworm negative Kodiak is a stunning German Shepherd with a classic black and tan coat, tall upright ears, and gentle brown eyes that take in everything around him. He is a nice-looking boy, and it’s hard to believe he is still waiting for someone to notice him. Kodiak arrived at Cobb Animal Services as a stray on October 6, 2026. We don’t know where he spent his years before that, but at an estimated 8 years old and 56 pounds, he has a lot of life and a lot of love still to give. He is great on leash and sits when told, so he already knows how to be a good companion. Kodiak is a little shy and is still adjusting to the noise and bustle of the shelter. Shy dogs often blossom once they find a quiet, steady place to settle in, and patience is usually rewarded with the most devoted friend you could ask for. Imagine earning the trust of a dog like this, and having him choose you every day. It isn’t fair that a senior dog like Kodiak has to spend his days in a shelter. Seniors give so much in return for so little: they’re already who they’re going to be, and they are endlessly grateful for a soft bed and a kind voice. Adopting a senior is one of the most rewarding things you can do, and Kodiak is ready to show you why. Kodiak is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Come meet him in kennel 855. He has waited long enough. Note - all the listings on Friends of Shelter Animals for Cobb are done by volunteers. If this cat or dog came in as a lost animal, we do not know how they might be with children, other pets, or if house trained. You can bring your pet to the shelter for a meet & greet with your potential new best friend. When inquiring about a cat or dog, please use THE ID NUMBER. This pet is available for adoption from Cobb County Animal Services, 1060 Al Bishop Dr. Marietta, GA 30008, (770) 499-4136. Shelter hours: Tues. - Sun. 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Mondays & Holidays. The adoption includes shots, altering, a heartworm or combo test and a microchip.
