Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Bruce is a cheerful dog who thrives on love and attention. He delights in being pet and cherishes his stuffed toys. Preferring the proximity of his foster family, he happily follows them around the house, providing quiet companionship. A crate is uncomfortable for Bruce but when left alone he has run of the house and does very well just lounging around on his comfy dog bed. Bruce thrives in the company of other dogs, finding joy in social interactions, though he doesn't always like to share with his canine companions.   Check out this   video of Bruce at the lake. Bruce is very loving and gentle with the adults and kids in his family but is very cautious with friends and visitors that come to the house. With slow introductions and positive reinforcement over time he has allowed others into his circle.  Before entering rescue, Bruce was a neglected and debilitated dog, grappling with various health issues such as Lyme disease, a thyroid disorder, skin allergies, infections, and a sinus condition with a chronic unexplained cough. Through dedicated treatment and care, he has shown positive responses, but managing his well-being requires medications on both a daily and as-needed basis. Additionally, Bruce faces mobility challenges due to hip issues in both legs and a torn ACL in his right hind leg. While corrective FHO surgery is not currently an option due to his size and how difficult his recovery would be, his quality of life is good but depends on limited yet regular physical activity, close monitoring, joint supplements, and prescribed pain management. Despite his physical limitations, Bruce adeptly uses a ramp for entering and exiting vehicles, finding joy in car ride adventures and short outings outdoors. He is a happy dog with a tail that is always wagging! Bruce is best suited to an environment with limited or no stairs due to his mobility challenges. Hard surface flooring is a challenge for him. Bruce is currently taking the following medications: carprofen, apoquel and levothyroxine. Ready to fall in love? Come and meet Bruce today! Bruce is from one of our northern reservation partners. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hey there, I'm Diego! I'm thrilled to meet new folks and can't wait to meet you. My foster mom describes me as a big, friendly sweetheart, and people often compliment me on my looks. Mornings are my favorite, especially sitting on the deck with my foster mom, savoring the sounds of birds while she enjoys her coffee. I'm pretty skilled at going into my crate, although I'll express my discontent if I'm left out of the action when there's a lot of noise. I just want to join the fun! I do very well out of my crate at night and when my foster mom is at work, I stay busy snacking on my kong or napping. I'm well-versed in basic commands, sitting eagerly for treats and gently taking them. Toys are my passion! Whether it's stuffed, squeaky, or chewable, count me in. I'm even getting the hang of fetch. Leash training is a work in progress, but I'm improving. Walks help me burn energy, preparing me for cozy evenings on the couch with my humans. I'd happily be a lap dog when tired, settling for just being close to my people. If you want a handsome, clever companion who brings joy, I'm your match! Diego enjoys meeting new friends but may gently jump up, although a baby gate helps manage this. He interacted well with his Foster’s 8-year-old stepson and is gradually meeting the resident dog. Diego adores toys but needs supervision, as he may attempt to ingest stuffing. He's generally not destructive with toys and loves tug-of-war and squeakers. His adorable head tilt and smiling demeanor melt hearts. He's becoming more at ease, his wagging tail a testament to his comfort. Diego usually is ready for outdoor time and breakfast via a puzzle feeder around 7am. He's skilled at solving puzzles. He loves spending time with me on the deck. He gets breaks for leash training and spends evenings hanging out with me, relishing meeting new people. He's particularly fond of my stepson and often ends the day dozing on the couch. When relaxed, Diego crosses his front legs and showcases his endearing head tilt when listening. This handsome boy has a history of seizures and currently is taking daily medication. He is well controlled and we have not seen any seizures since entering rescue. Diego is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *Bonded to Harley* Miley once had a family, sharing her days with her 'sister'’, Harley, from another litter. Sadly, their world turned upside down when their family came upon some hard times that led them to Ruff Start Rescue. Although Miley is still adjusting to some of our male dogs, we know she is a sweet and loving girl. When she's comfortable, she shows her affectionate side with gentle kisses and polite treat-taking. She has let my children brush her without any issues and adores the attention they give her. Miley is a good leash walker and settles well in her kennel with a little persuasion. She knows it's her safe spot, even if she'd rather be out and about. Miley would do best in a household where it’s just her and her bonded pal, Harley . Smart and eager to be around people, Miley has a lot of potential and is ready to blossom into her full, wonderful self.  Miley is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Are you ready for the sweetest creature that ever lived?! Then here she is! Morena is a young small shepherd mix. She has a funny back story. She and her sister were flown in from CA as puppies to be junkyard dogs. They both failed miserably because they’re way too sweet ;) They were then surrendered to a local impound and found their way to RSR.   Her sister found her new home and Morena is looking for hers. Morena always wants to snuggle us and be touching her people. She thinks toys are so fun and will toss them in the air and play for a while. What she really likes, other dogs! She loves to run and play and would do best with a companion dog.   Morena is a goofy girl, she takes forever to eat her food and will make piles on the floor then decide which pile she wants to eat first. She has springs for legs and can easily jump a 4 foot fence so she’d prefer a 6 foot fence or be on a leash for a while until she learns your area.   If you want a sweet girl with the greatest ears, Morena is the dog for you! Morena is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Edith, fka Cowgirl, is a delightful 4-month-old puppy who will steal your heart with her charming wrinkles and lively personality. Weighing in at just 15 pounds, she's a tiny bundle of joy who loves to play, especially with her fellow dog mates. She would love another dog brother or sister to play with! She even gets along with cats, although she occasionally does want to play with them since they are comparable in size.  Edith is currently working on her potty training and is almost there! When it comes to crate training, she does well but might be a bit vocal when she first goes in, so it's best if she doesn't have shared walls with neighbors. If you're looking for a loving and playful companion, Edith is the perfect match. Her sweet nature and adorable quirks make her impossible not to fall in love with! Edith is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Phoenix is an adorable male German Shepherd bursting with puppy energy. At under 30 pounds, he’s a medium-sized bundle of joy who loves to be around people and explore his world with his curious nose. Phoenix is crate trained, does well in the car, and is always up for some water fun, whether it's a kiddy pool or a sprinkler. Phoenix has an infectious zest for life. He’s the sweetest boy, often prone to zoomies, and loves socializing with his family. His playful nature makes him a bit "mouthy" as he explores the world with his mouth, teeth, and pointed little nose. He’s goofy and intelligent, bringing a mix of laughter and admiration to those around him. Phoenix starts his day early, eager for breakfast and ready to go out for his morning routine. He’s crated during the workday but gets plenty of evening walks and playtime to burn off his high energy. Phoenix enjoys soft and squeaky toys, though you might find that you’re his favorite playmate! He loves being in contact with you, convinced it's the best way to show his affection. Though Phoenix is full of life, he may not be a perfect fit for seniors or very young children due to his exuberant energy and tendency to jump. Older children who are respectful and can handle his playful antics are ideal. He gets along well with adults, other dogs, and even cats, making him a versatile addition to any family. Phoenix’s sweet face and loving personality make him irresistible. He’s curious, somewhat shy at times, but always affectionate. Phoenix is eager to find a family who can match his enthusiasm for life and provide the love and guidance he needs to thrive.     Phoenix is from another rescue.
