Story
Canelo's (Cinnamon) is approximately 1.5 years old. He weighs 70 lbs. He is fully vaccinated, 4DX tested negative neutered and has a registered microchip. His adoption fee is $650.00 + tax. Canelo is a happy, playful and social pup with gorgeous copper eyes! He is a sweet boy who loves to be with people and is eager to please. He is a super smart pup and learns quickly especially when there are treats involved! He came to rescue from an outdoor living situation where he was expected to stay in the unfenced yard. He found him self in multiple out of his yard locations due to his seeking out humans to interact with! He is so happy to be in a home and included in family activities; whether indoors or outdoors... he just wants a family to be close to. He is working on leashed walking, but can be VERY strong when he sees something new or exciting! He will need a strong owner who can 'hold on', as he learns to control his excitement... he really is just so excited to experience new things after living alone outside. He is great with being kenneled indoors and sleeps soundly while kenneled overnight. For being new to the life of living indoors, he picked up super quickly on house training. He loves to run and explore the yard, and boy can he run!!! Due to his, breed and size and energy level, he would do best in a single family home with a large fenced in yard. He takes good 'cues' off of the dogs that he spends time with. While he can be a playful pup with the ones that enjoy to play, he will also give space to the ones that prefer to be left alone. He hasn't lived with cats in foster care, but he has seen some from a distance and has been very curious in a non-aggressive way. He has had no issues with the chickens that are separately fenced in the yard and has not tried jump the 4' ft. fenced in enclosure to get to them. Canelo can't wait to find a family to call his own! He is a fantastic pup and will make a great loyal companion to his new family, living the life of a loved family member... together where he wants to be! If you are interested in meeting Canelo or being considered for his adoption, please complete an adoption application at: savingtails.org *Due to the STAR adoption process and the continuing support of our rescue animals, STAR does not do adoptions outside of a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities area. Saving Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) is a 501(c)3 registered no-kill, non profit animal rescue. All animals are placed in loving foster homes until their forever family finds them. Because there is not a physical shelter location, foster homes are needed to help rescue local animals who are in danger of euthanasia. If you would be interested interested in fostering an animal in need; please fill out an application at savingtails.orgMarch 2, 2024, 5:59 pm

Story
Henry is a sweet and gentle puppy who is making great progress on house breaking. Henry loves a lap and he loves his people. When he plays in the back yard periodically he needs to stop with his foster for a quick cuddle. He and his litter are more calm than is typical of pups this age. He is very well socialized and seems to adjust well in new situations. He is nondemanding and easy to live with. He has a perfect shepherd 'tail diamond' which is very cute. Henry appears to be a Shepherd cross who was born 11-21-23. Mommy is pictured. We believe he will be in the upper end of mid-sized when full grown, likely 45-55#, but that is best guess. He could be a bit bigger. His tan and black coat looks like it is similar to mommy’s . Henry and 5 siblings were surrendered because the owner wanted them to get good homes and felt she would not be able to find suitable owners. Puppy arrived in good health and well cared for. The little dog family had been living in a remote rural area and spent much of his time outdoors. Henry is outgoing, friendly, and is used to being around other dogs and puppies. He is making great progress on house breaking. He takes care of his business right away when he goes out and if taken out on a schedule, all effluence happens outside. He is starting to be crated during a 5 hour work day and at night. He walks well on a leash for a puppy and enjoys walks with his friends. We are making best guess about breed. DNA testing from Dogs from the area often have 20 or more breeds in their lineage. Common breeds in the area are German Shepherds, Kelpies, Border Collies, labs, and Aussies. The DNA nearly always includes a wee bit of Chihuahua and some husky. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Henry has been vaccinated and wormed. He will need two more routine vaccination plus rabies at the owner’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? Story
Meheen is an affectionate dog who adores his family, especially his human mom. Growing up with two older brothers and two cats, Meheen loves going on walks and exploring new trails. He's also fond of occasional swimming and enthusiastically retrieves sticks when thrown. Well-behaved and familiar with basic commands, Meheen thrives in outdoor settings and enjoys spending time with active children over 8 years old. While Meheen doesn't get along well with other dogs due to past trauma, he gets along fine with cats, although he may not realize his size compared to them. Ideal for an active family willing to dedicate ample time to him, Meheen requires companionship throughout the day and may exhibit protective behavior when left alone. With his older siblings moving out, there may be concerns about meeting his needs adequately in the future.

My foster family says I am very smart and learn so fast. I am potty trained and I let my foster family know when I need to go out. I am learning how to sleep in my crate at night and getting the hang of it. I love walking and am getting better on my leash daily. I love everyone I meet and will kiss you all day. I love other dogs and cats but need to learn how to say hello appropriately. (I have a lot of energy). I do not want the other dog in the house to have my toys or my food, which is called resource guarding. My foster family is helping me work through this. Lady is a sweet dog who loves anything and everyone she meets. She is shy at first but works through it. This beautiful girl is looking forward to finding her furrever home. Lady is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Story
Snapshot of Trooper: Size: Large, 75lbs Activity Level: High Noise Level: moderate barking but quiet in the house Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown Good with Kids: No Good with Strangers: Skittish and slow introduction but warms up quickly. Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Shedding: Yes Hi my name is Trooper: I think I'm pretty much a pure German Shepard but its tough to tell because nobody knows where I came from. I was found on the streets, severely underweight and in pretty bad shape, but finally got taken into rescue and was given some much-needed love and care. During this whole journey, they told me that I am likely about 3.5 years old and although I was skinny at the time, they helped me get back to a normal weight of about 75lbs. Being on the streets made me pretty weary of new people, so I am not a huge fan of strangers and don't like being approached. Because of this, I don't think I would do the best around young kids; however, after you give me some time to check you out, I do warm up quick. I haven't been around many cats, but I do know that I am a fan of playing with the dog friends my family has introduced me to. Aside from some of my skittish behaviors and fear towards new people, I actually am very smart. My foster parents tell me that I am one of the smartest dogs they know and love making me do all these ridiculous things. I know the basic commands like sit, shake, stay, and lay down, but also know a few others like when to place on my mat and can go to my kennel when being told...usually. I also am big fan of play wrestling with my foster parents but am still working on calming myself down when they tell me they're done. I can get a little mouthy (I call them teeth kisses) but have learned that this is a bad trait to have, so I have been working hard to stop doing that as well. I can definitely keep up with an energetic lifestyle and love to play and go on walks. When I am not playing, I don't mind lounging around. I typically like staying near my people and making sure I know what is happening at all times, and definitely love some cuddles and belly scratches. Overall, I know there are some things I need to work on, but I am convinced that if someone can continue to work with me, I can make a great companion. I love being outside so would love a place where I can still explore the yard and have room to run around. I wouldn't mind sharing a house with another pup as long as they can manage playing rough sometimes. While I might not do great in a crazy home with kids and tons of new people, I would love to be someone's buddy for life. Trooper is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $400 + applicable tax Trooper is currently on medication for skin allergies. With his reactivity and anxiety he will need further training and possibly medication to help him. I have had Shep for the past 4 years. He is 7 years old and the sweetest boy! I am hoping for him to go to a home with more time to spend with him, also a home with preferably no dogs or cats. I am moving in with a new dog that Shep does not get along with. I love him so much and I know whoever he goes to will love him too! He is just the sweetest boy and I know he has a lot of years left to love and be loved.
