Story
Tucker is a spunky, playful, big-hearted dog who loves everyone and everything except cats! He is gentle and affectionate, seems relatively quiet, and up for any adventure. Tucker's owners unfortunately need to return him as the woman went into assisted living due to an illness and the man spends all of his time there and feels it isn't fair to Tucker. From his owner: Tucker is a great guy. He loves people and has no problems with strangers. He barks fiercely when strangers come to the door, but is welcoming when I let them in. He is very affectionate and loves having his back and his tummy rubbed. He is not a problem licker. I accidently stepped on his paw one time (not badly) and he yelped, but did not snap at me. Instead, he limped around until I gave him a treat and told him I was sorry. I do not know how he is with small children, but the only problem is that he is rambunctious and might knock them down. He is great with other dogs, but with his energetic way of playing might hurt small dogs. He would never do so intentionally. I have taught him sit, stay and come by giving a small treat as a reward. When I feed him, he will sit and impatiently wait as long as I hold up my index finger. When I point at the food, he scarfs is down. He is food motivated. He thinks squirrels are plotting against us and will go after them given an opportunity. He absolutely loves his toys, especially plush ones, but is really not destructive of them. The only ones destroyed were from tug-of-war with other dogs. He loves it when you throw them for him. He is high energy and loves walks and running in the yard. The yard must be fenced because if he has an opportunity he will take off to explore. I have not been able to train him yet to come under that situation and he must be tracked down. That is his only real flaw. He just needs more training. He is a counter surfer, but I have had a dog who was before and just make sure not to leave temptation out when we are gone. He sleeps in a crate in our bedroom at night, door latched. He does hate being left in the crate while we are gone and yelps when we leave, but we let him roam free in the house for hours with no problem. Except for used Kleenexes, for which he has a fetish. Why, you might well ask, would I not be keeping such a warm, affectionate, fun-loving dog? Only, and I mean only, because my wife has Parkinson's that has recently gotten very worse and she went into a facility. I am with here every day from early morning until late at night. Tucker is home alone and starved for companionship. If you cannot give him attention, you are not a good fit. If you can, you cannot find a better guy than Tucker. I have had him about 4 months and it breaks my heart that I cannot keep him any more. He is really has become a part of the family. He needs a loving home again. If you are interested in meeting Tucker, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.February 9, 2026, 3:19 pm
