Story
My boyfriend has had Jaxon since he was a puppy, due to unfortunate health issues and working full time jobs we can no longer care for him. He’s a very sweet dog, and has separation anxiety and would love to spend every minute of every day with someone! He’s the friendliest, playful, and affectionate dog and we are hoping to find him a very loving home!

Story
Trooper is a big friendly love bug that just wants attention. He's an adult boy that loves to play catch with his tennis balls. He does well in a crate, and sleeps well at night. He's house trained and gets along well with other dogs. He needs an owner that is familiar with German Shepards, or at least, large breeds and would do well with someone who has a large fenced in yard, or access to a fenced in area that he could run in.

Story
Introducing Sully -- Professional Goofball & Accidental Stunt Dog!Sully is an almost two-year-old (as of January 2/26) shepherd mix who wakes up every day choosing chaos...the lovable kind. He is a certified doofy dude who will run full speed, trip over his own feet, and then look at you like, "Yeah, I meant to do that."This guy loves attention and will happily soak it all up. He can be selective with other dogs in the home, so he'd do best with thoughtful introductions or being your one-and-only comedy act.Now let's talk about leash skills. Sully is still working through the concept that the leash is, in fact, attached to a human and not an optional suggestion. The shenanigans while he figures this out are exactly as hilarious as you're imagining. The good news? He is improving slowly but surely. Off leash in a fenced-in yard, though, he is an absolute rockstar.Sully can be a bit barky or standoffish with unfamiliar people, especially if their body language feels weird to him; but once he's comfortable, he is all heart. He is highly food motivated and genuinely loves learning. The attention span doesn't always clock in for a full shift, but he shows up, gives it is best effort, and deserves credit for trying. In a nutshell Sully:--Is goofy, clumsy, and proud of it;--Does great off leash in a fenced yard;--Is dog selective--Is a food motivated scholar-in-training;--Is young (almost 2 yo as of January 2026)--Comes with built-laughs!If you're looking for a dog who will keep you smiling, challenge your leash-handling skills, and love you with his whole goofy heart, Sully is your guy. You can begin the adoption process for him right now by filling out an application on our website, www.humanecny.org; or email info@humanecny.org; or call us at (315) 457-8762.Contact HumaneCNY if interested in this animal. You can fill out application to adopt at the shelter.

Story
Meet WAFFLES, (aka Waffy-WooWoo by her foster) a sweet and loving older Shepherd mix who has captured the hearts of everyone she meets. Waffles is a well-behaved pup who is crate and house trained, and knows her commands. She loves to observe the world from the comfort of her dog bed. Waffles is a smart girl who would love a home where she can connect and bond with her human. She is a loyal and loving pup who will always be by your side. Waffles, while good with people and most other dogs while at home, she is what's called leash-reactive, which means she does NOT do well with people, animals, cars, you name it - while out and about and on walks around the neighborhood. Anything fast-moving. (She does love car rides, though!) For this reason, she needs a fenced in yard and would enjoy being more of a homebody where she won't get anxious while on a leash. (the fenced in yard just to block out the outside world more than contain her, because believe it our not, Waffles can jump a 7' fenced! So even with the fence, she'll need to be put out on a tie-out) Being reactive to fast, unpredictable things, younger kids would be a no for her too, just to be safe. (Waffles comes with a sponsored adoption fee of only $100 for the right adopter!) 🤪Waffles is a little shy when meeting new people or dogs, so her new family will need to be patient with her as she adjusts. However, once she gets to know you, her tail never stops wagging and she is all about belly rubs and playtime. Waffles is an active girl who loves to run and play outside, but also enjoys sunbathing and stretching out on a grassy area after her daily workout. She seems good with other relatively calm dogs. She's protective of her home and is best crated as guests are arriving to make a smoother transition - we can talk to you more about that as it's easily manageable. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).

Story
Introducing GIGI, the one-of-a-kind canine companion with a heart full of love! With her striking appearance that hints at a captivating mix of Schnauzer, German Shepherd, or maybe even a Belgian Lakenois, Gigi is truly a beauty to behold. Once she gets to know you, she forms an unbreakable bond and becomes your most loyal and devoted companion. Ideal placement for GiGi is in a low-traffic home - No apartments or townhomes with minimal company in and out. She can become protective and territorial over her people and space. However, there's nothing quite like the feeling of Gigi's unwavering affection and devotion, as she showers her chosen humans with endless love and adoration. From cuddle sessions on the couch to joyous playtimes in the backyard, Gigi will be your steadfast partner when you're home. When new people DO come over, she can be crated initially and introductions done in a controlled way which we can talk to you about and works well. But she's a wonderful dog for someone who is more of a homebody and wants to enjoy their dog at home and not out and about. GiGi would do well with a consistent routine with her people. 🤪 Gigi needs a home as an ONLY DOG and NO KIDS (and no cats or other animals). With Gigi by your side, you'll never have a dull moment, as she delights in discovering new tricks and challenges that engage her inquisitive mind. She's fully vetted and in the 60-70 lbs range.
