Story
Meet Athena with her adorable ears. Athena came to us through a humane case. We do not know about her background. We have found out that she was not well socialized. Athena will need slow introductions with new people. She was not sure how to walk on a leash nor did she like us trying to put a leash on her. She is doing better with both now. She will need patience while she learns how to be a dog and on house breaking. Once Athena gets to know you, she is sweet and will give you kisses. We are still working on getting her more socialized. Athena would do well in a quieter home without small children. She seems to like the other dogs here at the shelter and does fine with our house cats. If you are interested in meeting Athena please fill out an adoption application. She may need a couple visits to be comfortable.

Story
Meet Cain Cain is a handsome 7-year-old German Shepherd weighing about 85 pounds, with soulful eyes, impressive ears, and the kind of loyal presence Shepherd lovers know and adore. He is looking for a calm, adult-oriented home where he can truly relax and enjoy life. Cain does not do well with the unpredictability and energy of young children, so his future home should have no young kids. Respectful teenagers around 16 and older may be okay for him.And shine he does.Cain is the kind of dog who enjoys both adventure and downtime. He still has plenty of pep in his step for a 7-year-old and loves playing fetch, exploring outdoors, and spending time with his people. But hes equally happy settling in beside you at the end of the day, content just being near his person while you relax and watch TV. He has a calm, steady nature in public and does well meeting adult guests in the home. His previous family clearly invested time into him. Cain has solid obedience training, including on- and off-leash work, and knows how to settle nicely on a place command when visitors are around or meals are happening. His adopter will receive his training equipment and guidance on the routines that help him succeed.Cain would do best in a peaceful, predictable home where he can enjoy his golden years without the stress and chaos that can come with young children. He has done well with female dogs and has also been safe around cats.Beneath that shepherd intelligence and alert expression is a dog who simply wants a calm home, clear structure, and someone to love him for exactly who he is.Cain is healthy, well cared for, and still has so much life and companionship left to give. His future family will also receive several large bags of food generously donated to help make his transition easier. If youre a shepherd lover looking for a loyal companion and can offer the calm home Cain needs, he may just be your perfect match.Apply at www.caninecollective.org.

Story
Meet Jasmine Jasmine is a 7-year-old German Shepherd (69 lbs) who is as sweet and steady as they come the kind of dog who just feels easy to be around. She recently lost her home through no fault of her own, but shes handled every step of this transition with quiet grace. When Jasmine arrived, she needed treatment for a skin condition, and she didnt just tolerate her medicated baths she soaked up the attention and proved what a gentle, trusting girl she is. Shes doing great now and feeling so much better. Shes now spayed and ready to start the next chapter finding a forever home Jasmine is quickly becoming a volunteer favorite. She walks beautifully on leash, is very well-mannered, and has that classic shepherd intelligence attentive, responsive, and eager to connect with her person. She also has a playful side and enjoys a good game of fetch. A yard and a tennis ball would make her very happy. Check out the video at the end of the pics to see how talented Jasmine is with a ball. Jasmine seems to do well with other dogs and would thrive in a home that offers love, stability, and inclusion. If youre looking for a loyal, easygoing companion with a gentle heart, Jasmine is ready to be someones very best friend. Apply at www.caninecollective.org.

Story
Murphy was known as Sean at the shelter at San Antonio. He had been injured by a car and was taken to the shelter where he was placed on the euthanasia list after a few short days. He didn’t have much hope left and had given up. After seeing the sadness in his eyes, we knew we had to help. He was transported to Ohio and was seen by our orthopedic surgeon who determined he had to lose his long beautiful tail, but there was also a good chance he would need a femoral head ostectomy to correct his hip and leg. Because a small amount of healing was noted, he was given 3 weeks to determine if his body would heal enough on its own and we could spare him the pain of surgery. That turned out to be the case, so this sweet guy only lost his tail. Murphy is doing wonderfully and continues to heal and gain strength. He has been cleared for adoption and is hoping to find a very loving family to give him the life he deserves. Murphy is a shepherd mix. Best guess by the vet is a mix with Chow Chow because of his tiny, flopped over ears, but we aren’t sure. If you would like to meet this lovebug, please submit an application on our website, canaananimalsanctuary.org.

Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Roxie is a beautiful, 5 year old, dog who loves her owners, but due to her anxiety, she isn't fond of strangers. She enjoys walks and playing fetch. Roxie is a very anxious dog with lots of energy. She would benefit best from having a fenced in yard or a house with land, so she can run. Roxie would thrive in a home with owners who like to be active, but don't have super busy schedules as her anxiety causes her to also have separation anxiety. Roxie lives in a home where there is also a Golden Retriever, and the two dogs are best friends, but I’m not sure how she would react to another dog. Roxie would do best in a home with no kids or older kids, as being teased and pestered causes her to be reactive due to her anxiety. Roxie is house-trained and can do basic commands. Roxie is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is on anxiety medication, and when she was a puppy, the vet told us that she has a heart murmur but she isn’t on medication for it and doesn’t seem to have any problems.
