Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Location: West Columbia, SC Name: Ginger Age: 5 or 6 years Breed: Coonhound, German Shepherd, Akita Mix - 68 lbs with long legs M/F: F Spayed/Neutered/Shots: Spayed; UTD on rabies & distemper Good with dogs, cats, and/or kids: good with everyone she has met so far; haven’t exposed her to cats but doubt it would be an issue Aggression or medical issues?: No aggression; heartworm positive upon arrival and has been through fast-kill. Is on monthly prevention and will need to be retested in a year to verify treatment work did what it was supposed to (extremely high success rate). Reason for rehoming?: owner did not keep her contained and eventually moved away. For 4 years, she walked miles every day for food/water on her daily rotation having back to back litters. It is not simply that the neighbors did not care, she just wasn’t used to being contained and they struggling catching her and keeping her contained. I have had no issues keeping her contained in my back yard, but I do have a hot wire lining my fence and I am nowhere near the area she was wandering for all that time. House/crate trained?: she has only come inside my house a handful of times honestly, she prefers to be a yard dog as that is what she is used to. She has had no accidents when indoors though. Does need a fenced in yard. Potentially additional measures as mentioned above but I have no way of knowing until she is in the new situation/environment to see how she reacts as she never even tried escaping at my house. Additional info/story (personality): She is beyond sweet. No, she isn’t a house dog, but she is a loving dog. Out of the many animal’s I have taken to my vet, she is in their top 2 list of favs out of my group. While she is a yard dog, she walks decently well on a leash (I’m ~125 lbs and the only thing that is difficult is getting her in my car as in she isn’t one to drag me all over). She has been around tons of dogs and people with me with absolutely no issues. Vet had her in perfect health besides the heartworm treatment that we have completed. She is definitely past her puppy days and prefers to lay around instead of playing with the other dogs, but this could also be due to the recent heartworm treatments. I definitely wouldn’t consider her as a guard dog as she is such a people pleaser (she rarely barks - assuming it was learned behavior as she was surviving “on her own” for so long). Please help give her the furever home she has always deserved! Message/comment if interested. Make sure if you message me to include the animal’s name since I have a lot of rescues I am trying to help rehome at the moment. Adoption application & contract required to ensure good home .

Story
Location: West Columbia, SC Name: Pluto Age: 9.5 months Breed: Coonhound, German Shepherd, Akita, Mix M/F: M Spayed/Neutered/Shots: UTD on rabies, bordetella & dhlpp, up to date on heartworm prevention, neuter scheduled for April 8th (adoptee can keep or change to preferred location) Good with dogs, cats, and/or kids: all of the above Aggression or medical issues?: no aggression - was born with a deformed paw but the vet does not see it needing any future medical care although it will put him more prone to arthritis (easily managed with joint food or supplements at a younger age). This doesn’t affect his daily life or energy level in the slightest, he will only hold it up after a lot of playing as I’m sure it tires out quicker. Reason for rehoming?:mom has been a stray running for 4+ years that no one was able to catch. We finally caught her during her last pregnancy a couple days before birth. He was adopted and returned due to no fault of his own. House/crate trained?: yes to both Additional info/story (personality): He is extremely sweet with everyone and meets no stranger. He loves his outside time and playing. Would thrive best in a home with lots of attention or doggy friends to play with. Also a huge goofball. Does still jump when excited but is doing much better. Can pull quite hard on a leash as I don’t think he realizes his size. Was super gentle with the cats I introduced him to though. Message/comment if interested. Make sure if you message me to include the animal’s name since I have a lot of rescues I am trying to help rehome at the moment. Adoption application & contract required to ensure good home and remaining vetting is completed.

Pulls quite hard on a leash when scared or with a new human. Is a big baby and has no problem being held. Big personality, long, and lanky. Definitely a cuddle bug. Story
I adopted Lucky from Lexington County Animal Service in Jun 28th, 2022. He was a 4-month-old neutered puppy, very cute and friendly. After two years, he becomes a two-year-old young boy. He likes to play with kids and little dogs but is scared of big dogs with bad temper LOL. I walk him twice, in the morning and night. He never barks at home, except he sees some strangers come into home. I'm an international graduate student here. I didn't have any pets before. I felt so lonely when I moved here and I thought I can have a dog to give me more company. Lucky gave me a lot happiness but also taught me a lot. It's not easy to keep a pet, not only just feed them, but also treat them like families. Unfortunately, I'm confronting some issues in my study and research. There are so many uncertainties for my future. I feel I can't give him a good environment to live. I don't want to send him back to the shelter. I hope to help him find a lovely home and nice families. He deserves better life.
