Story
Meet Otis, approximately 10 year-old German Shepherd mix who has mastered the art of looking sad but has journeyed from a difficult past to a hopeful present. His story is one of remarkable transformation, resilience, and the power of love. When Otis first arrived in our care, he was in dire shape. He was a shadow of the dog he was meant to be: hairless, terribly thin, and visibly depressed. It was a heartbreaking sight. But with a lot of care, including lab tests, medications, special baths, and extra meals, Otis began to reveal his true self. He blossomed into a dog truly recognizable as a proud shepherd mix complete with a new fuzzy coat and a healthy physique.Throughout his recovery, Otis has shown nothing but love. His affectionate nature shines through his once-sorrowful eyes. He's great with other dogs of all sizes and adores people, loves kids, prefers home with no cats.  Despite his sad eyes that he uses to get treats and love, Otis is actually a happy, sweet pooch. Otis's foster mom has seen his incredible transformation firsthand and thinks the world of him. He's turned into a well-rounded dog, friendly with everyone—except goats! Otis has his quirks, like barking during bath time or when crated at first but settles quickly. These quirks only add to his charm.  This once bald, skinny dog is now ready for the next chapter of his life. We're seeking a perfect, goat-free home for Otis—a place where he can continue to flourish and receive the love he so richly deserves. Otis's journey has been a rocky one, but ahead lies a path filled with love and care.Adopt Otis and be a part of his incredible journey. Give our boy the happy ending he's been waiting for and experience the joy of watching him thrive. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##1815402##

Story
Max is my parents dog. My father passed away and my mother is too ill to care for Max. He loves people and playing fetch. He is good on a leash. He loves being brushed. He really is a sweet dog and loves going on walks and hanging out with humans. He truly has no bad habits (chewing, accidents, no excessive barking, etc.) He is about 4 years old and has good energy and still has many of his playful puppy like ways He is current on all shots. He really is a great dog and it kills me to give him up. Please help as I cannot continue to care for him due to my living/work situation.

Story
I’m King and I’m a 1 year old shepherd mix male. I thought I was going for a drive like in the past, but this time I was brought into a building and then put into a cage. My daddy never came back for me and I was going a little crazy in my cage. My paws even started bleeding , because I tried to claw my way out. A nice lady was coming to see me and giving me treats and taking me outside to play in a fenced in area. I’m young and I don’t really care for boy dogs, but that lady told me that might change after I am neutered. I’m a little too interested when I see a meow, so I probably shouldn’t be around kitty cats. You can bring your girl puppy if you have one for a meet and greet. Maybe I’ll fall in love. If I could have the perfect home it would be where I had a big fenced in yard and an owner who was caring and patient. I’m young and need training to teach me manners. I just don’t know yet that counter surfing is considered rude, or that my toys are not the last ones that I will have. I have not been taught these things yet. You can meet me by responding to this post or filling out the application. They said once that is filled out, they will arrange a meet and greet. Please respond to this post if you have questions or call 540-368-4508. https://form.jotform.com/70474774347162

Story
Max is only 2 years old and very sweet. He is great with other dogs, very gentle with children and would need a fenced yard to sniff and play. He is a gentle soul, a dog that loves people and loves the calm and peace at his foster. He is currently in Richmond, VA with his wonderful foster and waiting for his furever home. His story: He was surrendered to the pound in Texas by his owners due to housing issues. Poor Max was very confused and feeling bad. Really bad. He had a Upper Respiratory Infection, which evolved into Pneumonia. He was coughing, and could not breathe well. Max had to go to the ER to get fluids and heavy antibiotics. These URI's are very common in shelter environments, when immunity goes down. Max is doing much better now and would love to meet you..
