Story
Meet Mischeif !! Man this puppy is gorgeous!!! We took him and his brother in after the owner had a litter in the home. (His brother Bedlam was quickly adopted by the foster bc these two are amazing!) Mischief is an almost 7 month old, male, German shepherd. He already weighs 56 pounds. He’s a good size pup already and will likely be a large dog full grown. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. Mischief is extremely sweet. He loves to melt into you for hugs and loves to cuddle. He likes everyone but men are his favorite. He came to us very under socialized but not bad at all about learning training and overcoming some shy areas. He’s really a gem of a puppy and has a ton of potential. He is great on car rides. He is very good about going into his crate and has been fine crated for a work day and/or overnight. He’s been very quiet in his kennel except for some vocal excitement when you first get home. Mischief has been fantastic about potty training. He has not had an accident at all since arriving here. He’s also not a leg lifter at all thankfully. He was scared for his bath but didn’t fight it. He just laid down in the tub and let us get it done. He was however petrified of the leash. When he arrived he screamed, thrashed, threw himself around and tried to eat the leash. In a matter of days he’s made huge improvements. The tension still scares him but with verbal corrections and practice he has been able to take a walk without freaking out. Patience and practice will help with that from his new owner and he does best with an escape proof slip lead style harness. Mischief has been great with other dogs. He plays but isn’t overwhelming. He loves tug o war with other dogs. He has been around small dogs and he really does well with ones that don’t run away from him but ones that are scared of him he does tend to chase thinking it’s a game. He has never hurt them, but we do immediately stop him from chasing them and don’t let it escalate. Judging by that we don’t think he would do well with cats either. He has not been fostered with kids but we think he would do fine with kids. He is a sweet boy and does not seem to be aggressive about anything. He was very good with the vet for his visit despite being scared. We have not seen any issues with sharing food, treats or toys with people or other dogs. He does eat very quickly. We let him eat in his crate so he doesn’t feel pressured. He takes treats gently and is very treat and praise motivated. He does occasionally growl at new people but if they crouch down he’s in their lap within moments. Just some slight initial fear of new people due to lack of socializing. He currently has a medium energy level. He’s currently very laid back for a shepherd puppy. This breed can be very energetic and he needs a family willing to accommodate that should his energy level increase. He will do best with both mental and physical exercise each day to be his best self. He is currently fine with you being gone for a full work day with playtime after. He enjoys running the back yard with other dogs. Mischief is also a fantastic yard work buddy. Despite being a bit shy about some things he has no issue with lawnmowers, leaf blowers etc. He loves hanging out with you while you are doing things. He will find a shady spot to lay in and come check in on you every so often. He is still a puppy and sometimes chews on things he shouldn’t. He is easily redirected and doesn’t go out of his way to get into things. Keeping his areas puppy proofed and providing toys and bones works well. He is still learning that potted plants aren’t snacks. Overall this stunning puppy is very well behaved. He needs some fine tuning for some of his training but he has a really good foundation and learns quickly. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. Story
✨ Against all odds, Seis is safe. ✨ Seis was rescued from the BARC euthanasia list and is now officially under SSR’s care. 💙 He earned the name Seis — meaning “six” — because he survived SIX deadline extensions at the shelter, something that almost never happens. Time after time, he was overlooked… but somehow, he kept holding on until the right people saw him. Although SSR is currently closed to intake, we knew we had to make room for this very deserving boy. Because of the incredible advocates who shared his story, networked for him, and refused to give up, Seis is alive today. That matters. We’re still getting to know Seis and will continue sharing updates as we learn more about him. For now, you can follow his journey and learn more about his story by searching: • BARC ID: #A2076273 • SSR ID: #Seis0216 📍 Seis is currently in Texas and urgently needs a foster, adopter, or rescue placement. Transport is available to approved adopters throughout Virginia, the East Coast, and many other areas. If you’re interested in fostering, adopting, or helping Seis find his forever home, please reach out to us for more information. Welcome to SSR, sweet boy.You survived when the odds were against you — and we’re so glad you did. 🐾

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Mike (madeluca5@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet.06/05/26. Meet Hera, AKA Love Bug. Hera came into VGSR through the Gloucester Humane Society. We were told that she lived with a family since a Puppy, and 7 other dogs. Unfortunately, she got into it with one of the smaller dogs and was surrendered. She is one of the sweetest and most loving dogs we have ever had. All she wants to do is sit next to me on the couch and snuggle. She is around 3.5 years old. She is very energetic, and loves to play both with toys, and her 4 legged Step Brother Argo.  Hera, loves to play with Argo, but for some reason does not like my other Foster Sadie. We don't know why. When we first got her we kept her separated from Argo and Sadie. Sadie can be bossy and would bark at Hera through the fence. I'm just not sure as it seems so out of character. It could also be something in her up bringing? She loves everyone two legged person she meets. Hera knows basic obedience, is crate trained, and is potty trained. She really needs a home with no other animals just to be safe and a very energetic family to help her expend some of that energy. If you are interested and an approved adopter through VGSR please call or text at (757) 810-0535. She is being fostered in Yorktown.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 5, 2026, 3:46 pm
