Story
Meet Nellie, a beautiful and loving 2-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) who was found as a stray and brought to Wisconsin in November 2024.   Nellie has a gentle disposition, carefully taking treats and not exhibiting food or toy aggression. She is quiet in the house but will get excited when it is time to eat and when she wakes from a nap. She rides comfortably in the car with her backseat harness seatbelt. She sleeps well at night in her crate and will rest for 7-8 hours without any issues and can remain in the crate during the day for 3-4 hours. However, she does show signs of separation anxiety and will cry to be let out.   Nellie enjoys playing at the park, especially chasing a tennis ball. She needs to be exercised daily, 30-60 minutes; after which time she is a pretty calm girl.  She is capable of jumping and climbing a fence, so a yard with at least a 6 ft high fence if your yard if fenced in. If she could, she would spend the entire day cuddling with you or sleeping on your lap, but she is adorable when she gets the zoomies! With her playful spirit, she will bring joy to your home and heart.    Nellie needs a loving and attentive family that will help her improve her command training. She has mastered "sit" and is currently working on "stay" and "come." She needs some work on her walks, as she tends to pull on the leash. However, she has not met a dog or human she does not like and is kind to everyone she encounters. She has made significant improvement with house training with only a few accidents in the house. She is certainly smart and eager to learn!     Nellie may be required to “earn” her attention every time she seeks it in her new home. Her new family should understand that they may need to make her sit, stay, go into her crate or some activity for a few minutes then she gets rewarded with love and snuggles.  This will help her learn that she just does not get attention because she wants it.   Nellie's ideal home would be with someone who works from home or is retired. She would do well in a home where she can wrestle and play with another dog but it is not necessary. She may need calming chews or vet prescribed medications to help her transition to her new home if she is left alone for extended period of time until she is settled into her new routine. She sometimes likes to counter surf, so keep an eye on what is left out.    She is a sweet and wonderful dog who will do great in the perfect home with someone who can be patient with her and shower her with the same love that she is so willing to give.    ##2221973##

4.5 years old (estimated) Female (will be spayed prior to adoption) 31 lbs. No known experience with cats, dogs, or children More information coming soon! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.December 4, 2024, 12:33 am
