Story
Duke is a fun loving and playful 8 month old GSP! He is great with people of all ages and readily greets new people with excitement and interest. He is currently being fostered with a family with 3 kids (9,6,4) and 2 dogs (14 yr old cur mix and 9 yr old GSP). He is great with all the kids and is very tolerant when the 4 yr old wants to play dress up. He loves to sleep in bed with the 9 yr old and will sleep through the night. When he is not in bed with the 9 yr old, he has no problem sleeping in his own dog bed on the floor of the master bedroom. He is great with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is very inquisitive when meeting new dogs but will naturally be submissive and is great at taking cues from the other dog if they don’t want to be bothered. He has spent many weekends with a 14 yr old miniature dachshund and a 1.5 yr old bernedoodle. He loves to play but is easily quieted down when needed. Duke has only shown interest in the dog toys that we have. If he does happen to get one of the kids toys, he releases it easily and can be directed to one of the dog toys. When he is excited or happy to see you he will jump up but is currently working on his manners. He is a very smart boy and has done well commands such as sit, stay, wait, lay down, off, and come (we are currently using an e-collar for outdoor training so he is able to have free roam of the yard and burn some energy sniffing, chasing, and playing fetch). Duke takes treats very gently and has shown no signs of food aggression. He will easily let you take his food or put your hands in his bowl. However, he is definitely a counter suffer and will try to take any food that is within reach off the counter. His foster has not found a great way to discourage this type of behavior but continue to work with him on it. He very easily goes into his kennel with the word “kennel”. He takes about 10-15 mins to calm down once in there. He has 2 Benebones and a deer antler in there to help with this transition. He utilizes these items a lot. Duke has only been able to stay in his kennel for about 4-6 hours before having an accident. The longest he has gone in his kennel without an accident was 8 hrs but that was only once. He is still working on holding pee while playing in the house. He has had a couple of accidents on the floor but is easily encouraged to stop and will continue to pee once outside. Duke loves to be with his family and will whine if left inside while everyone else is outside. He is being walked about 2 miles a day and is getting about 1-2 hrs of off leash time running outside playing fetch, chasing our other GSP, and sniffing/chasing squirrels and other animals each day. He is getting used to the water but hasn’t readily gone in by himself yet. Duke is a great mix of GSP energy but can calm down and enjoy snuggles on the couch or quietly lay near while you are working. He would be a wonderful addition to any semi-active or active family! ##2076655##

Story
Atlas is a very sweet, affectionate dog. He gets along with all the dogs and cats that he has encountered both big and small. He loves attention from all people. Atlas loves running around the backyard and “hunting” the chipmunks and birds. He wants his people close and frequent checks in to be sure you’re still there. He sleeps in a crate in our bedroom at night with no problems. Once we let him out in the morning, he likes to get in bed and burrow under the covers. He loves long walks and is working on not pulling on the leash. He does better with a harness than a collar at this point. He knows sit, stay and no. He is improving at heeling and coming when you say his name and come. His foster has left him home alone without the crate for 3 hours and am adding more each day. He does fine. They think he appreciates having another dog but they don’t thinks it’s necessary but may be good if he will be alone for the work day. Atlas would prefer having a fenced in yard since he likes to explore and hunt critters. Atlas did come into rescue underweight and with ear and skin infections.  He was swtiched to different food, supplements to help add weight and medicaitons for the infections.  He has gained some weigh but could put a few more pounds.  His ears and skin have imporved signifcantly.  He is currently taking Apoquel for skin allergies and has kept his itching at bay. NOTE: The last two photos are from when he first came into rescue ##2089051##
