Story
, my dog is 8 years old. She has really bad separation anxiety, so she needs someone who's home all the time. She has a weak bladder, so someone with a yard is also best. She's a sweetheart and she loves to cuddle and loves to give kisses. She will follow you around the house if you allow her to. She is leash trained, but if she sees another dog, she might bark.

She was great about staying on course and was easily redirected when needed. She dodged puddles on the trail like a pro but enjoyed a dip in the steam to cool off. Samantha was friendly with the other dogs but was happy to walk independently. She wasn’t reactive to cars, dogs, or people. Samantha would make a great adventure buddy"!

Story
Gatsby is a 5-year-old Golden Retriever & Labrador Retriever mix with a heart as golden as his fur. Rescued just in time from a shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia, Gatsby's past is a mystery—but one thing is clear: he was once someone's beloved companion. His intelligence and well-mannered behavior suggest he received training from an early age. Gatsby is calm, gentle, and incredibly polite. He knows basic commands like sit, shake, and wait and patiently sits for treats without a fuss. He’s not much of a barker and remains composed even in new environments or around strangers. He adores human affection and will melt into your touch, always ready to soak up love and cuddles. While Gatsby is sweet with people, he's more of a solo explorer when it comes to other dogs. He prefers his own company over rowdy playtime and would thrive as the only dog in a home. If another pup challenges him, he may react, so a peaceful, single-dog household would be best for him. This handsome gentleman walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides, and is ready to settle into home life. He may take a little time to adjust to new surroundings, but with patience and love, he will blossom into the loyal, graceful companion he was meant to be. If you understand the loving, devoted nature of Retrievers and are ready to give Gatsby the forever home he deserves, he’ll repay you with endless affection and unwavering loyalty. Gatsby is waiting for a family to love him forever—could it be you?

Story
Sophie and Russell are two Golden Retrievers who have survived the trauma of a house fire and are now looking for a forever home where they can stay together. They are deeply bonded and rely on each other for comfort, so it's essential they be adopted as a pair. Due to their traumatic experience, they have specific needs. They require a home with no other pets, as they thrive best when they have undivided attention from their humans. A solid 6ft fence is necessary, as they are high flight risks, and it's important that their yard is secure. Inside the home, Sophie and Russell prefer to have free roam of the space, or at least within designated limits, as they like to stay close to their humans. They are calm and spend most of their day sleeping, but they will follow you around for security. Given their past, Sophie and Russell need someone who is home most of the time. When left alone, they have been known to chew on doors or molding due to anxiety, so secure caging or keeping them in a safe room when unsupervised is crucial. Additionally, their adoptive home should have secure windows with solid shutters, as they are escape artists and could attempt to flee if they feel anxious or unsafe. The ideal adopter will understand the trauma  Sophie and Russell have experienced and be prepared to manage their behaviors, such as chewing or escaping, with patience and care. Though they may present some challenges, they are incredibly loving and loyal, seeking constant companionship from their humans. If given the right environment, they will bring comfort and gratitude to their new home. If you feel you can provide the safety and stability they need, please reach out to learn more about Sofie and Russell. If you think you'd like to make Sophie and Russell a part of your family, please apply online at www.crisisdogsnc.org. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits.
