Story
My name is Apollo, and I am a 2-year-old Great Dane mix. I was relinquished to Lakeland 6 months ago, to no fault of my own. My friends here tell me I am a gentle soul with a larger-than-life personality and a body to match. They also tell me I am a good-natured, delightful pup and that I would make a wonderful addition to the right family. I walk nicely on a leash, and it’s a good thing because I’m curious about the world and love exploring nature. Leisurely walking the trails, smelling all the smells, is easily one of my favorite activities. I also really enjoy my time in the outdoor pen, where I can stretch my legs and show off my sprint. Luckily, I have pretty good brakes! After playtime, I enjoy leaning in to my shelter friends for a gentle embrace before heading back inside, where, with any luck, I’ll be left with a pig ear to munch on. I get along with other dogs and would do well in a home with a canine friend. Sometimes, I forget just how big I am, so a home without small kids would be best. If I had one wish for Christmas, it wouldn’t be a bone, bed, or cozy blanket. My wish would be for my forever person to come pick me up and take me home. Please, Santa, help make my Christmas wish come true. Oh, and Santa, I’ll be sure to leave you some kibble at the bottom of my bowl.

Story
I am 108 lbs., and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $500 Meet Pipsqueak, the loveable Great Dane! Don’t let the name fool you — this gentle giant has a huge heart to match his size. Pipsqueak came to us from a tough situation in Tennessee, where he was surrendered along with 11 other animals. When he arrived, he was severely underweight and clearly hadn’t had the care he deserved. Since being rescued, this sweet boy has already started his comeback story. He’s gained some weight and strength, but he’ll still need a loving home committed to helping him continue to fill out and thrive. What Pipsqueak may lack in pounds right now, he more than makes up for in affection. The moment he sees staff, his whole body wiggles with excitement. He’s a total love bug who just wants to be close to his people and soak up all the kindness he can get. Pipsqueak is looking for a home that will give him patience, good nutrition, and lots of snuggles while he continues his journey to full health. In return, you’ll get a loyal, goofy, oversized best friend who will adore you with his whole wiggly self. All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. We also cannot guarantee the ages of our adoptable animals or how large puppies will be when fully grown. We look forward to seeing you soon! Story
Venus is an adorable, Great Dane mix who weighs about 109 lbs. She can be a little shy and timid at first, but once you give her a few treats, she is sweet and affectionate. She knows basic commands like `sit`, `down`, `paw`, `leave-it`, `watch` and more! She is potty-trained and crate trained. She is considered a medium energy dog, who is food motivated and very bright because she is picking up training fast! She would do best in a house without other pets. She is a sensitive girl who is working hard on her dog reactivity training during walks! She is a good dog who will stare into your eyes lovingly and give little kisses. She is also a good office companion while her foster mom works from home! Story
A few years ago, this sweet girl was found dumped along the fence of our rescue! She was skin and bones and needed immediate help, so we named her MayDay. Our best guess is she around 6 or 7 years old and a Great Dane/ Staffshire terrier mix. She is very gentle, loves people, and really enjoys car rides. Mayday gets along with males, but is not very playful with other dogs. She would do best as the only fur baby in the home. Since she has been a kennel dog her whole life, MayDay is not pot trained so she will need a family who understands that. This dear girl would love a chance to live out her days in the comfort of a home with a family who will love her! If you want to give MayDay that chance, find us at https://www.tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org/ to fill out an application or on facebook (tails of the forgotten paws)

Story
Meet Daisy Daisy is a stunning Great Dane with an even bigger heart. She came to us from a heartbreaking local cruelty and neglect case, where she was one of only two survivors. Despite her rough start, Daisy is learning that the world can be kind and is blossoming more every day. She is still gaining confidence and can be timid at first, so slow, patient introductions to new people and other dogs are important. Currently in her adorable, awkward “tween” stage, Daisy has all the joyful puppy energy you’d expect from a young Dane. She gets the zoomies when the mood strikes, loves her toys (especially her teddy bear, tug toy… and unfortunately, socks), and then happily settles in for cuddle time. If you sit down, Daisy will do her best to climb into your lap, stretching out and melting into you for ear rubs—she truly believes she’s a lap dog, even if she’s the world’s largest one. Daisy has already survived more than most dogs ever should. Now she’s ready for a loving, patient home that will help her continue to grow into the confident, gentle giant she’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a tender heart and lots of love to give, Daisy may just be your perfect match. All of our dogs are dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and heartworm tested if they are old enough. Story
Mr Loyal! That is what describes this boy in one word. Romo was once owned by someone in Aruba who then moved to the Netherlands. They gave him to some friends that let him roam the streets. We found him strolling along at a bus stop with a huge hematoma on his ear. He jumped right in the car and we took him to the vet. He had surgery and has now recovered from it. We were asked to take him with us to the US as the new owners didn't have the means to take care of him. Romo is an extremely loyal dog, calm and quiet and at the same time friendly with people and dogs. He's is extremely well mannered. Call us to hear about him and learn why we think he is the most loyal dog. His previous owner says he is 4 years old ( the vet says 5) and if you look on our Facebook page you will see all his posts about him. Oh and yes he loves riding in the car with you. He is house broken, does not like the cage to much, but that's ok. He doesn't get himself in trouble in the house. This is a great big dog! He mostly looks like a Great Daner, but could also have some Labrador in it. He is not a drooler like the Danes are. He likes other dogs but will also do well when being just with his special person. We would like to adopt him out within 40 miles of Elgin. His adoption fee is $350 to help us with the cost for his plane ride and the associated vet expenses.
