Story
My name is Apollo, and I am a 2-year-old Great Dane mix. I was relinquished to Lakeland 6 months ago, to no fault of my own. My friends here tell me I am a gentle soul with a larger-than-life personality and a body to match. They also tell me I am a good-natured, delightful pup and that I would make a wonderful addition to the right family. I walk nicely on a leash, and it’s a good thing because I’m curious about the world and love exploring nature. Leisurely walking the trails, smelling all the smells, is easily one of my favorite activities. I also really enjoy my time in the outdoor pen, where I can stretch my legs and show off my sprint. Luckily, I have pretty good brakes! After playtime, I enjoy leaning in to my shelter friends for a gentle embrace before heading back inside, where, with any luck, I’ll be left with a pig ear to munch on. I get along with other dogs and would do well in a home with a canine friend. Sometimes, I forget just how big I am, so a home without small kids would be best. If I had one wish for Christmas, it wouldn’t be a bone, bed, or cozy blanket. My wish would be for my forever person to come pick me up and take me home. Please, Santa, help make my Christmas wish come true. Oh, and Santa, I’ll be sure to leave you some kibble at the bottom of my bowl.

Story
Venus is an adorable, Great Dane mix who weighs about 109 lbs. She can be a little shy and timid at first, but once you give her a few treats, she is sweet and affectionate. She knows basic commands like `sit`, `down`, `paw`, `leave-it`, `watch` and more! She is potty-trained and crate trained. She is considered a medium energy dog, who is food motivated and very bright because she is picking up training fast! She would do best in a house without other pets. She is a sensitive girl who is working hard on her dog reactivity training during walks! She is a good dog who will stare into your eyes lovingly and give little kisses. She is also a good office companion while her foster mom works from home! Story
Meet Daisy Daisy is a stunning Great Dane with an even bigger heart. She came to us from a heartbreaking local cruelty and neglect case, where she was one of only two survivors. Despite her rough start, Daisy is learning that the world can be kind and is blossoming more every day. She is still gaining confidence and can be timid at first, so slow, patient introductions to new people and other dogs are important. Currently in her adorable, awkward “tween” stage, Daisy has all the joyful puppy energy you’d expect from a young Dane. She gets the zoomies when the mood strikes, loves her toys (especially her teddy bear, tug toy… and unfortunately, socks), and then happily settles in for cuddle time. If you sit down, Daisy will do her best to climb into your lap, stretching out and melting into you for ear rubs—she truly believes she’s a lap dog, even if she’s the world’s largest one. Daisy has already survived more than most dogs ever should. Now she’s ready for a loving, patient home that will help her continue to grow into the confident, gentle giant she’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a tender heart and lots of love to give, Daisy may just be your perfect match. All of our dogs are dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and heartworm tested if they are old enough. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at https://www.sftsrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

Story
Home for the Holidays Adoption Promotion Participant: 50% off adoption fee 12/20-12/21 Meet Gertrude - our gentle brindle miracle. Gertrude, lovingly called Gertie, is a breathtakingly beautiful Great Dane with a heart every bit as big as she is. She came to us from a heartbreaking local cruelty and neglect case, where she was one of only two survivors. Despite everything she’s been through, Gertie has held onto her sweet, soulful nature, and she’s so ready to finally know safety, love, and comfort. Gertie is gentle, affectionate, and truly cherishes calm companionship…but don’t let her softness fool you, she absolutely lives for a joyful romp in the snow! Watching her kick up powder with those long legs is guaranteed to make you smile. This girl has survived so much, and she deserves a family willing to help her continue healing. Gertie can be a bit overwhelmed by very active or overly forward dogs, so while she previously lived with other animals, she’ll need the right match to feel safe and thrive. Slow introductions and respectful canine friends are key. We’re also recommending a home with older children, simply to give her the quiet, understanding environment she needs to settle in and build confidence. If you’ve been searching for a companion who is gentle, resilient, and endlessly loving, Gertrude may be the one. She’s ready for a soft place to land, and a family who believes she deserves the world. All of our dogs are dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and heartworm tested if they are old enough. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at https://www.sftsrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

Story
A few years ago, this sweet girl was found dumped along the fence of our rescue! She was skin and bones and needed immediate help, so we named her MayDay. Our best guess is she around 6 or 7 years old and a Great Dane/ Staffshire terrier mix. She is very gentle, loves people, and really enjoys car rides. Mayday gets along with males, but is not very playful with other dogs. She would do best as the only fur baby in the home. Since she has been a kennel dog her whole life, MayDay is not pot trained so she will need a family who understands that. This dear girl would love a chance to live out her days in the comfort of a home with a family who will love her! If you want to give MayDay that chance, find us at https://www.tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org/ to fill out an application or on facebook (tails of the forgotten paws)
