Story
A few years ago, this sweet girl was found dumped along the fence of our rescue! She was skin and bones and needed immediate help, so we named her MayDay. Our best guess is she around 6 or 7 years old and a Great Dane/ Staffshire terrier mix. She is very gentle, loves people, and really enjoys car rides. Mayday gets along with males, but is not very playful with other dogs. She would do best as the only fur baby in the home. Since she has been a kennel dog her whole life, MayDay is not pot trained so she will need a family who understands that. This dear girl would love a chance to live out her days in the comfort of a home with a family who will love her! If you want to give MayDay that chance, find us at https://www.tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org/ to fill out an application or on facebook (tails of the forgotten paws)

Story
Meet Oreo, a 1-year-old male Great Dane/Black Labrador Retriever mix who is looking for his forever home! He is a big, lovable boy, weighing in at 70 pounds. He has a striking black and white coat, just like the cookie he's named after, and he's just as sweet. Oreo has a zest for life and is always happy and looking to have some fun! He is very strong on the leash, so his adopters should be comfortable handling a dog of his size and strength. Dont worry! We can show you how to manage him on leash. He would love a big yard where he can run and play all day long. His favorite thing to do is play tug and fetch! Oreo continues to work hard on his basic manners training. He's still trying to master loose leash walking, as he's still a young dog and a work in progress. But he loves his training time, knows sit and down, and with consistency, he'll quickly learn how to be a well-behaved companion. While Oreo did okay with kids in his previous home, he can be jumpy and mouthy at times, especially when he's super excited. Oreo also doesn't love sharing his highly prized items, so we recommend that any children in the household be over 12 years of age. Overall, Oreo is a smart and affectionate dog who will make a great companion for an experienced adopter who can provide him with the love, patience, and training he needs. If you're looking for an active and fun-loving dog, Oreo might just be the perfect match for you and he's here waiting to meet you! For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Oreo is an all-star dog, and his adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Oreo or to schedule an appointment to meet him, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Story
Margot is an amazing dog.She is smart and sensitive and always looking to please. She has 2 cat siblings and tolerates their cattyiness well except when they get rowdy. Then she wants to join in.She has been fixed, with gastroplexy and unfortunately had her tail docked. She broke it in two places from happy tail and it would not heal. She loves everyone and will definitely welcome a burglar in your home. She loves to snuggle - and by that I mean lay her boney legs and her heavy head in your lap and especially on your bladder. She has never been around kids and can easily knock down anyone who isnt at least her weight. She has had extensive training and responds well to sit, down, away, bed, off, move, ok-eat, wait, leave it, come. She is trained to heal but can get triggered if there are alot of things going on.When in the yard, she enjoys all of the scents and can stay outside in a small yard. She has a wobby and will be sure to bring it to bed every night.we love her dearly.

Story
We are searching for a knight in shining armor (or a warrior princess) to rescue this particular Duke.We estimate that Duke John is about 11 years old and 112 pounds of sheer handsome beauty, very loving, and majestic as all get out. He loves to cuddle, would be happiest getting non-stop petting, knows a whole bunch of commands, is housebroken, and stays off the furniture unless invited. A gentle giant, he loves all people (including children) and gets along well with other dogs. DNA tests indicate he is a bloodhound/lab/Catahoula mix. Despite his age, he's got serious power and will need a strong human to handle the other end of the leash in the event an Amazon truck should come along. Duke John loves his routine and it includes non-negotiable short nightly walks - one of his very favorite things in life. This guy is a survivor: having adapted to more relaxed living conditions due to his congenital heart condition and takes numerous medications each day. His health requires a human who can keep him on a strict food and med schedule, let him out frequently, and who will bring him to vet appointments. He is not neutered: due to his age and heart issues, he cannot undergo anesthesia.Anyone interested in Duke John should speak first to our medical staff so we can be certain his health needs will be met. He is searching for an active and loving home where he can live his best life. He is one heckuva special dog.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog's individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don't know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Hey there, I'm Fred, the mighty Great Dane! I'm only 7 months old, but I'm already pushing the scales close to 90 pounds. They say I'll probably top out around 200 pounds when I'm all grown up. With my sleek black fur and boundless energy, I'm a real looker, if I do say so myself. Oh, and I'm a boy, in case you were wondering. I've already got the whole house training thing down pat, and I'm not too shabby when it comes to hanging out in my crate, especially if there's some yummy food involved. But hey, who can blame me for being a bit food-motivated, right? Now, I haven't had much experience with kids yet, but I'm a total social butterfly with other dogs. As for cats, well, I did give chase to one when I met them, but my foster mom thinks I'll grow out of it with some proper guidance. Yep, I'm still a bit of a wild puppy, trying to figure out how to use all four of these paws of mine. If you're thinking about bringing me home, just keep in mind that having a fenced yard would be awesome for my safety. And I'll definitely need some training to help me be the best dog I can be. But I promise, with my playful spirit and gentle nature, I'll bring a whole lot of love and laughter to your home. Local adoptions only. We do not adopt out of the state of Illinois. Fred is being fostered in a private home. Appointments to meet him will be set up for approved adopters only. His adoption fee is $500 which includes all age appropriate vaccines. He is neutered, microchipped and Heartworm negative. He has also been kept on both flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Please visit our website and fill out an application if you are interested. http://newstartdogrescue.org
