Story
LOCATION: Houston, TXDOB: 06/21/2022Meet Becky Rose – a tall, dark, and goofy beauty with a striking black coat, a splash of white on her chest, and a personality that’s anything but ordinary. She’s smart, hilarious, loyal to a fault, and just a little bit extra—in all the best ways.Becky Rose is bilingual (yes, really—English and Spanish), potty trained, and has mastered the dog door like a pro. She’s not a fan of the crate, but she’s trained to go to her bed when told and is working on polite mealtime manners (she’ll sit and offer a paw for her food—unless she’s really hungry). And while she’ll lovingly let you wipe her butt after bathroom breaks, she draws the line at giving up her beloved giraffe stuffy—every other plush toy is fair game, though. This girl is clingy. Capital-C Clingy. When she wants attention, she makes it known, and she’s not taking no for an answer. But she’ll also fiercely love and protect her person in return. Once Becky bonds with you, she’s all in. She’s calm while being handled, even while eating, and doesn’t flinch at fireworks if she’s near someone she trusts.Energy-wise, Becky Rose is somewhere in the middle: she loves her zoomies, dramatic couch dives, and sprinting toy tosses—but she also knows how to settle. She’s famous for her weird couch maneuver where she backs her rear legs onto the seat and leaves her front paws on the ground, sitting like a total weirdo (and we love her for it).She gets along with other dogs and seems to enjoy their company—she gets sad when she can’t play. Cats? She’s seen them, didn’t care. Adults? Here’s where she needs a confident, experienced handler. Becky’s not afraid to tell you if she doesn’t vibe with someone. She’s barked, lunged, and even nipped when she felt unsure or threatened. This girl needs a home that understands dog behavior and will advocate for her. She’s not a dog-park dog or a meet-all-your-friends-right-away kind of companion. She needs structure, trust, and slow intros.Becky Rose would thrive in a home with space—both indoors and out—for her zoomies and wild toy tosses. A dog door is ideal. Block off your kitchen unless you want her helping herself to dinner. She’s not scared of stairs, and she’s surprisingly gentle during quiet moments. She just wants to be with her person, wherever that is.If you’re looking for a dog with big personality, big brains, big loyalty, and an even bigger heart—and you’ve got the experience and patience to help her feel safe—Becky Rose might just be your girl. She’s not for everyone, but for the right person, she’ll be everything.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Pittsburgh, PADOB: 08/26/2022Meet Hercules, a stunning Great Dane with a heart full of charm and a personality that fills the whole room. This big, lovable guy is the definition of a gentle giant — affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s right next to his favorite person. He’s completely housebroken, crate-trained, and loves nothing more than curling up close for a good snuggle after a day of play.Herc is a dog who knows what he wants — attention, belly rubs, and more rubs after that! He’s an affectionate goofball who leans on you (literally) for love and will gently nudge his way into your space just to remind you he’s there. He has a funny way of rubbing against you like a cat and will even try to curl up beside you like one, despite his impressive size. He’s a total ladies’ man and wins over every woman he meets with his sweet, loving nature. Men take a little more time to earn his trust, but once they do, Herc’s loyalty is unwavering. He’s protective in a comforting way — once you’re “his person,” he’ll make sure you always feel safe.Herc has a confident, dominant streak, so he’s looking for a home where he can be the only dog or the top dog in the house. He enjoys calm walks on familiar routes, playing fetch with his favorite tennis ball, and a spirited game of tug-of-war with his rope. He has a moderate energy level — enough enthusiasm for playtime, but he’s also great at settling down when it’s time to relax. A backyard is plenty for him to get the exercise and sunshine he loves. This big boy is expressive and talkative, especially when he’s excited or unsure. He’ll bark to let you know how he’s feeling, but it all comes from a place of protectiveness and wanting to understand what’s going on around him. Once he feels safe, his goofy, affectionate self shines through. He loves his routine, enjoys a good walk, and might even try to steal your spot on the couch when it’s movie time.Because of his protective nature and strong personality, Herc needs a home without children and with an adopter who has experience with large breeds. He’ll thrive in a calm, low-traffic environment where he can relax and feel secure. His ideal person will have the confidence to handle a big dog and the patience to give him the structure and love he deserves. At the end of the day, Hercules is a giant lovebug who just wants to be close to his person, soak up affection, and enjoy the simple things in life — sunshine, snuggles, and a good tennis ball. Once he trusts you, he’s yours forever — a loyal, loving companion who will fill your home with warmth and a lot of personality.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Oak Grove, KYDOB: 01/07/2023Meet Big Boy, a tan and white Great Dane–Great Pyrenees mix whose soft heart and quiet spirit make him truly unforgettable. After spending more than a year in a shelter, he arrived thin, scared, and unsure of the world, but even then it was clear there was something special behind those sad eyes. With time, patience, and the safety of foster care, he’s slowly learned that life can be gentle — and that people can be, too.Big Boy can be reserved when first meeting new people, especially men, but once he feels safe, he shows his goofy, affectionate side. He forms deep bonds with the people he trusts and becomes a loyal, loving companion who enjoys cuddles, gentle attention, and simply being close. A calm, low-traffic household is where he thrives best. Loud noises, sudden movements, and busy environments overwhelm him, so he’s looking for a peaceful home where he can truly relax. This sweet boy is fully housetrained, crate trained, and rides well in the car. He’s an easygoing walker who enjoys slow strolls and quiet time in the yard, but at heart, he’s a couch potato who prefers comfort over adventure. He currently lives with dogs and cats and gets along wonderfully with them. He’s also lived with children and done well, but he would feel most comfortable with older kids or teens who understand his need for space and calm. Because he’s still learning to trust and can panic when scared, he will need a securely fenced yard and a family committed to keeping him safe.Big Boy is especially comfortable with women, and he would do best in a home where they are the primary caretakers or where any men present are patient, dog-savvy, and willing to give him the steady companionship he needs to build confidence. He relaxes more easily when he has another dog around, and he would love a friendly canine companion to show him the ropes. He has made tremendous progress with the help of anxiety medication, and once he feels secure, his sweetness shines. Despite having some hip dysplasia, he moves comfortably and enjoys his outings. He has also been treated for Lyme disease and ehrlichiosis, and those health issues have been resolved.Big Boy has come so far, and he’s ready for a family who sees not just where he’s been, but where he’s going. With patience, kindness, and a quiet place to land, this resilient, gentle boy will blossom into the devoted companion he’s always wanted to be. If you’ve got room on your couch — and in your heart — he’s ready to meet you.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Minden, LouisianaDOB: 06/15/2020 How is Wilson still waiting for his forever home? It’s a mystery indeed! Wilson is the kind of dog who effortlessly steals hearts with his quirky charm, sweet nature, and signature “Willie wiggles” that make every morning brighter. A black-and-white Great Dane with a freckled bib, his expression effortlessly shifts from playfully goofy to adorably serious, creating a perfect blend of personality. For the last three years, Wilson has patiently waited for the right family to recognize just how special he is. Affectionately known as Willy, he is a gentle soul who thrives on love, though he’s taken his time learning to trust and embrace affection fully. His foster mom calls him her “baby doll” and “special boy” for good reason—his submissive nature, soft heart, and unwavering loyalty make him an absolute gem.Willy has a few quirks that only add to his charm. He’s a self-proclaimed collector, hoarding toys, towels, shoes—really, any treasures he can gather into his personal pile. And crinkly toys? They’re his absolute favorite, providing endless entertainment. While he initially preferred the company of women, he’s growing more confident around new people, no longer retreating to his crate but instead lounging nearby, eager to observe the world around him. He’s incredibly gentle with toddlers, great with older, respectful children, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Cats? He happily ignores them, making him an easy fit for feline-friendly homes.Wilson’s house manners are impeccable, though his resourceful tendencies mean he’s crated when unsupervised to prevent impromptu treasure hunts. He’s a dream on the leash, a perfect walking companion, though car rides aren’t yet his favorite—but he’s learning! His gentle, somewhat skittish nature means he’ll thrive in a home with a secure six-foot fence to keep him safe.Wilson is truly one-of-a-kind, an endearing blend of silly, sweet, and soulful. He’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and unconditional love to the right family—the one who sees his quirks, celebrates his softness, and welcomes him wholeheartedly. If you’re looking for a companion with a heart of gold and a playful spirit, Wilson is waiting, paws at the ready, to finally head home.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: Wilson must be adopted locally OR adopter must be willing to drive to pick him up; he is to skittish to go commercial or be handed off to multiple drivers. For more information, please email us at rescueme@srgdrr.org. Story
LOCATION: Boerne, TXDOB: 06/06/2018Chloe Sunshine is a Great Dane mix whose journey into rescue began under incredibly hard circumstances. She came to us about six months ago after surviving on her own in a remote area of Texas, where she had to be humanely trapped so she could finally get the help she needed. At some point earlier in her life, Chloe survived distemper, which left her with a facial and mouth tic that doesn’t bother her at all. Her front teeth were severely worn, likely from trying to chew her way out of confinement, and she arrived malnourished, exhausted, and pregnant. Tragically, the puppies had passed before rescue, and Chloe required emergency surgery to save her life. Along with her spay, several damaged teeth were removed, and she began her long road to recovery with proper medical care, food, and rest. When Chloe first arrived in foster care, she was completely shut down and terrified of people. Her foster family gave her her own quiet room with soft beds, plenty of food and water, and even a TV to help her feel less alone. For the first few days, she stayed curled in the corner, freezing whenever someone entered, unsure of what might happen next. Her foster family allowed her all the time she needed, moving at her pace and asking nothing of her except to feel safe.Slowly, Chloe began to take brave steps forward. First she ventured outside on her own. Then she met the other dogs in the home, which turned out to be a huge breakthrough for her. Watching them helped her understand that she was safe, and before long she started leaving her room, joining the household, and learning how to be a dog again.Today, Chloe Sunshine is almost unrecognizable from the scared girl who first arrived. She plays with the other dogs, relaxes on the couch, seeks out snuggles, and happily enjoys her meals. She’s learning to walk on a leash and greets her foster mom with the sweetest little happy dance that perfectly fits her name. Over the holidays, she even stayed in a different home while her foster family was away. Though nervous at first, she quickly settled in, climbed onto the couch for pets, and by the end of the stay was happily dancing for her sitter too.Chloe has shown that she can adjust to new environments and continue to build trust, and she’s ready for a forever home of her own. She will do best with patient, gentle people who understand that her confidence was hard-won and deserves to be protected. Chloe Sunshine has endured more than most dogs ever should, and now she’s ready for a future filled with comfort, kindness, and the steady love she’s waited so long to find.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Dothan, ALDOB: 08/14/2020Duke has been waiting an incredible 494 days for his forever family, and it’s hard to believe he’s still looking. He’s a Great Dane–German Shepherd–Husky mix with a big personality and a playful, affectionate nature. Duke is energetic and goofy, smart and curious, and also perfectly capable of settling down into couch potato mode once his needs are met.He loves to run and play outside and is especially devoted to his favorite jolly ball, the kind with a triangle cutout. He carries it around like a pacifier, tosses it into the air, and will happily play a full game of “ball” all by himself. He enjoys chasing toys and sometimes brings them back—on his own terms. His energy level is moderate overall: he’s active and enthusiastic, but he can calm down and relax appropriately in the house.Duke is fully house trained and kennel trained, and his kennel is a comfort space for him. He eats his meals there and often prefers to nap afterward. If another dog approaches his kennel while his food bowl is still inside, he will bark, so managing mealtimes separately is important. He walks on a leash but does need reminders not to pull when he gets excited. He does well in the car and has no medical issues; he’s healthy, heartworm negative, and not known to have allergies. He lives with other dogs and does best with playmates close to his size, as he plays hard and doesn’t always respect personal space. Face licking is one of his favorite ways to say hello. Duke also lives with several foster cats and coexists well with them, though he will nuzzle and gently push them around, sometimes knocking them over with his enthusiasm. The cats simply walk away, and there has been no aggression. With adults and strangers, Duke can be vocal at first. He will bark when someone new approaches, showing off the German Shepherd side of his personality, but he improves with familiarity and time. He hasn’t lived with children, so a home with adults or experienced handlers would be the best fit while he continues building confidence and trust. He can be talkative and will sometimes “comment” when given a command, especially if he has opinions about it.Duke is afraid of rainstorms and thunder and should be brought inside during bad weather, where he feels safest in his kennel with a soft bed. His ideal home would include a securely fenced yard—six feet is recommended, as he can bounce himself over shorter fences when he’s feeling playful—and another dog his size who enjoys active play without being overly dominant. With patience, structure, and room to run, Duke will reward his people with loyalty, humor, and a strong bond once he knows he’s truly home.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
