Story
LOCATION: Etters, PADOB: 07/19/2019Bubba is a gentle, sensitive Great Dane who is still learning that people can be kind. When he first arrived, he was timid and cautious, clearly carrying the weight of a rough past. Over time, he has started to show his sweet and goofy sides, especially when he’s with other dogs. Bubba feels most comfortable when he has canine friends around—he is respectful and playful with dogs of all ages and sizes, and he truly blossoms when he has a companion by his side.Outdoors is his happy place. He loves to roam the yard, run with the other dogs, or quietly watch the world from behind a shed or in his dog house. Indoors is harder for him, but he finds comfort in his kennel and sleeps peacefully through the night. Each morning feels like a fresh start, and with patience, you’ll see him warm up again as the day goes on. Bubba has even begun to find his voice—sometimes howling when left outside alone at night or “talking” at the back door when he wants some company.Despite his shyness, Bubba has the most tender personality. He leans into back scratches, runs and plays with a horse-like gait, and surprises his foster family with little glimpses of silliness that will make you smile. He startles easily with loud noises or sudden movements, and he isn’t a fan of car rides, but he tolerates them when needed. He’s still learning to trust people and may never be a dog who cuddles on the couch, but his gentle spirit and quiet presence are deeply endearing.Bubba is crate-trained, learning leash skills, and doing well with the routine at his foster home. He hasn’t shown much interest in chickens and may be fine with cats, though he hasn’t lived with them. He would do best in a calm home with no small children, a securely fenced yard, and another friendly dog to help him feel safe. His ideal family will be patient, understanding, and willing to let him progress at his own pace.If you’re looking for a dog who will touch your heart with his resilience, reward your kindness with trust, and bring gentle joy to your days, Bubba is waiting for you.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Boerne, TXDOB: 06/06/2018Chloe Sunshine is a Great Dane mix whose journey into rescue began under incredibly hard circumstances. She came to us about six months ago after surviving on her own in a remote area of Texas, where she had to be humanely trapped so she could finally get the help she needed. At some point earlier in her life, Chloe survived distemper, which left her with a facial and mouth tic that doesn’t bother her at all. Her front teeth were severely worn, likely from trying to chew her way out of confinement, and she arrived malnourished, exhausted, and pregnant. Tragically, the puppies had passed before rescue, and Chloe required emergency surgery to save her life. Along with her spay, several damaged teeth were removed, and she began her long road to recovery with proper medical care, food, and rest. When Chloe first arrived in foster care, she was completely shut down and terrified of people. Her foster family gave her her own quiet room with soft beds, plenty of food and water, and even a TV to help her feel less alone. For the first few days, she stayed curled in the corner, freezing whenever someone entered, unsure of what might happen next. Her foster family allowed her all the time she needed, moving at her pace and asking nothing of her except to feel safe.Slowly, Chloe began to take brave steps forward. First she ventured outside on her own. Then she met the other dogs in the home, which turned out to be a huge breakthrough for her. Watching them helped her understand that she was safe, and before long she started leaving her room, joining the household, and learning how to be a dog again.Today, Chloe Sunshine is almost unrecognizable from the scared girl who first arrived. She plays with the other dogs, relaxes on the couch, seeks out snuggles, and happily enjoys her meals. She’s learning to walk on a leash and greets her foster mom with the sweetest little happy dance that perfectly fits her name. Over the holidays, she even stayed in a different home while her foster family was away. Though nervous at first, she quickly settled in, climbed onto the couch for pets, and by the end of the stay was happily dancing for her sitter too.Chloe has shown that she can adjust to new environments and continue to build trust, and she’s ready for a forever home of her own. She will do best with patient, gentle people who understand that her confidence was hard-won and deserves to be protected. Chloe Sunshine has endured more than most dogs ever should, and now she’s ready for a future filled with comfort, kindness, and the steady love she’s waited so long to find.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: San Antonio, TXDOB: 02/11/2025 (Approximately 1 year old)Meet Sadie, a sweet and energetic young girl with a heart as big as her smile. This precious mama was found wandering the streets, doing her best to survive on her own. Despite whatever she has endured, she remains incredibly loving, affectionate, and eager to belong to someone.Sadie is the perfect blend of playful and cuddly. She has moderate energy — she loves to run, play, and be silly with her people, but she also knows how to settle appropriately and relax. She enjoys stretching out in the backyard to soak up the sunshine, then happily comes inside to be wherever her people are. Personal space is not really her style — if you are moving, she wants to help; if you are sitting, she wants to be loved. She is fully potty trained and kennel trained, making her an easy addition to a home. She rides well in the car and walks nicely on leash most of the time, though she can occasionally be inconsistent. She is a smart girl who continues learning and gaining confidence every day.Sadie does well with large dogs and appears comfortable around them. She ignores cats in her foster home but has not been formally tested long term, so slow, proper introductions are recommended. She is unsure about small dogs and would need careful introductions if placed with one.She does well with older children and has done great with a 12-year-old in her foster home. However, she is fearful of younger children. Sudden movements and loud noises can make her uncomfortable, so a home with children 12 and older would be best.Around adults and strangers, Sadie may initially be shy or nervous, but she warms up quickly once she realizes she is safe. She simply needs patience and reassurance to feel secure.Sadie would thrive in a loving, moderately active home that will continue building her confidence while giving her the affection she craves. She has clearly endured hardship, yet she remains trusting, gentle, and grateful for every kind touch. With stability and love, she will make an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.Sadie is available for adoption and is currently located in San Antonio, TX. Local or nearby adopters are preferred. All donation options, adoption applications, and important links can be found here:https://linktr.ee/SrgdrrIf donating, please note who or what your donation is for.For more information, please email us at rescueme@srgdrr.org. Story
LOCATION: San Antonio, TXDOB: 11/08/2020Meet Emmett, a merle Great Dane mix who is all about his people. Emmett is deeply affectionate and very attached to his humans—where you go, he wants to be right there with you. During the day he’ll plant himself at your feet, patiently waiting for pets, and at night he’s happiest snuggled up as close as you’ll allow. His love language is definitely physical closeness, and he gives it freely. While people are his top priority, he also enjoys other dogs and is playful, goofy, and eager to initiate a game once he’s comfortable.Emmett isn’t a full Great Dane and sits around 100 pounds, roughly the size of a large Lab. He has a gentle mouth that suggests some retriever in his mix, and it shows in how careful and sweet he is with toys, treats, and people. His energy level is moderate—he enjoys playtime and engagement but is also very capable of settling down and relaxing with his person. One of his cutest habits is carrying a stuffed toy around the house like it’s very important business. He can also be wonderfully silly when he’s feeling safe and happy, and he has a habit of resting his head in your lap and gazing up at you with total devotion.Emmett is housetrained, walks well on leash, and does not bark, which is a rare and lovely trait. He’s great with children of all ages and is gentle even when kids are a bit clumsy with their affection. He loves adults and strangers too—there’s no warm-up period with Emmett, he’s friendly from the start. He currently lives with two Great Danes and does very well playing with a male dog who matches his playful style and social cues. He’s more neutral with a female dog in the home, with no serious issues but some mild tension around food. With the right introductions and management, he could do well with another dog, especially one that enjoys play but respects space.Emmett does have some important needs to be aware of. He struggles significantly with being alone and panics when separated from his humans, even for short periods of time. Because of this, he is not crate tolerant and should not be crated; when left alone in a kennel, he became so distressed that he injured himself trying to escape. He will need a home where someone is with him most or all of the time, such as a work-from-home household or a retired adopter. With time and professional guidance, he may be able to build some confidence with short absences, but he will likely always be a very people-dependent dog. He can also be uncomfortable in the car and will try to climb into your lap for comfort, so car rides will require patience and management.Emmett also shows some resource guarding behaviors centered around his humans, particularly when other dogs seek attention from his person. He is not aggressive, but this is something his foster is actively working on and should continue with training and structure in his future home. Medically, Emmett is currently being treated for heartworm with Minocycline and is severely allergic to Doxycycline, which should never be given to him.The ideal home for Emmett is one where he can be near his people as much as possible and truly be part of daily life. He would thrive with someone who enjoys constant companionship and doesn’t mind a dog who wants to be involved in everything. A calm household with the option for canine companionship and plenty of human interaction would suit him beautifully. If you’re looking for a dog whose world revolves around loving you, Emmett may be the perfect match.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Hamlet, NCDOB: 06/07/2021Meet Broley, a handsome white Great Dane with a goofy streak and a gentle, thoughtful soul. At his core, he’s a big clown who loves nothing more than simply being near his person. Once he knows he can trust you, his sweet, easygoing personality shines through, and he’ll happily spend his days lounging, following you around the house, or curling up for long naps at your side.Broley has definite couch-potato tendencies and thinks a comfy spot and a calm home are just about perfect. He’s a champion napper, an enthusiastic snuggler, and he’ll gladly share the couch—especially if you got there first or have a treat to sweeten the deal. Out in the yard, he’s content with a bit of exploring and light play, but he doesn’t need high-energy adventures to be happy. A fenced yard where he can relax and move at his own pace suits him well. He’s still learning that new people can be safe and kind, so he may be wary at first and sometimes reacts when faced with unfamiliar adults. But with patient, gentle handling, he’s making steady progress. He’s smart, observant, and slowly discovering how to play, and he appreciates someone who will go at his pace and show him the world doesn’t have to be scary.Broley is fully housetrained and walks nicely on a leash. He does best having his own room instead of a crate, where he can stretch out and feel secure. He’s muzzle trained, too, which makes vet visits and new situations easier for him. He recently completed heartworm treatment, and his future adopter should follow up with their vet to confirm his status. He hasn’t yet been introduced to other dogs, cats, or children in his foster home, so a careful, structured introduction plan would be needed if those are part of his future family. He does have a mischievous side—Broley is a proud countersurfer and has a particular fondness for apples, mangos, and bread. With consistency and supervision, he’s learning the rules, but his new family should expect a bit of creativity and persistence from this smart guy.Broley’s ideal home is quiet, patient, and understanding. He’ll thrive with someone who appreciates the Dane “lean,” doesn’t mind a little dog hair, and is willing to give him the time he needs to build trust. A fenced yard would give him a safe space to relax, and a home with kind adults who come around regularly would help him continue his progress with meeting new people. With the right family, Broley will blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion who brings equal parts silliness and sweetness to every day.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
