Story
Khloe is a 9 month old Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. I adopted her about 6 months ago shortly after I lost my father to help with grief. At first things were going well but then my mother became ill and recently I have not been able to give her the attention she needs. Unfortunately there will be a lot of changes this coming year and I don’t have the resources, income, or mental capacity to take care of Khloe. She is a high energy puppy who would thrive in a big outdoor space and with other dogs she can learn from and coexist with. She has not been around children. She is very playful and it can become a little rambunctious. I blame that on myself not being able to give her the attention she needs the last few months so she is acting out. She is crate trained and potty trained. She is super smart, protective and a bit stubborn which is common for her breed. I’m hoping to find her a good home so I don’t have to return her to the shelter. Thank you for reading :)

Story
Meet Huckleberry & Finn! This unlikely duo (Huckleberry the Great Pyrenees and Finn the Malinois) arrived to the Shelter as strays after embarking on a grand adventure from home. After arriving safely at the Shelter, staff observed that this duo appear to be two peas in a pod and would thrive in an adoptive home together. Huckleberry is the more confident of the two while Finn is a little more shy and reliant on Huckleberry for comfort. They are very familiar with each other and seem to thrive in each other’s company. We are aiming to try to find them an adoptive home together. They have met other dogs (small and large) and have been interested in interaction – even soliciting some play. Staff have also observed that they walk well on leash and keep a tidy kennel. If you have room in your heart (and home) for two big dogs, consider meeting Huckleberry and Finn today!Huckleberry & Finn are available for preadoption at this time – come in, fall in love and you can take them home after their neuter surgeries! Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
