Story
Salinas, CA – Meet Shelby Shelby is a beautiful 3-year-old Great Pyrenees who’s been with us for two wonderful years. We rescued her from a situation where her previous owner could no longer care for her. We,be realized Shelby would be much happier in a rural setting—somewhere she can roam freely and embrace her natural instincts to guard and explore. 🐾 About Shelby • Age: 3 years old • Temperament: Gentle, loyal, and protective • Great with kids – patient and affectionate • House-trained and well-behaved indoors • Enjoys car rides and walks • Loves the beach – does great off-leash • Natural guardian – ideal for land • Spayed and up to date on vaccinations Shelby isn’t suited for neighborhood living. She needs space, purpose, and a peaceful environment to thrive. We’re looking for a responsible, loving home where Shelby can live her best life. Story
Meet Libby, the adorable Pyrenees mix! Libby came to the Shelter by no fault of her own (her previous guardians were unable to continue caring for her). Libby was primarily outdoors in her previous home. She had some small breed dog friends in the previous home and has enjoyed meeting dogs since her arrival at the Shelter. Her previous guardians report that Libby loves car rides and did well at the professional groomer for “spa days”. Her favorite activities in her previous home were running, playing with toys, as well as playing with children and other dogs. Libby has some of her basic cues down such as sit and down and would love to keep learning with her new family. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Boston, the fluffy white Pyrenees! Boston came to the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know a whole lot about his life before the Shelter. Staff have observed that he has been affiliative, easy to leash and handle, as well as calm in his kennel. Boston has gone to playgroup with two similarly sized dogs (Libby and Elmo) and enjoyed romping around with them – playbowing as well as some light wrestling and chase. A resident dog in the home may be a fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Boston with cats, livestock or children.
