Salinas, CA – Meet Shelby Shelby is a beautiful 3-year-old Great Pyrenees who’s been with us for two wonderful years. We rescued her from a situation where her previous owner could no longer care for her. We,be realized Shelby would be much happier in a rural setting—somewhere she can roam freely and embrace her natural instincts to guard and explore. 🐾 About Shelby • Age: 3 years old • Temperament: Gentle, loyal, and protective • Great with kids – patient and affectionate • House-trained and well-behaved indoors • Enjoys car rides and walks • Loves the beach – does great off-leash • Natural guardian – ideal for land • Spayed and up to date on vaccinations Shelby isn’t suited for neighborhood living. Meet Peepo, the Grey Pyrenees! This big guy came to the Shelter with some other dogs after their previous guardian was unable to continue caring for them. Peepo was a working dog in a ranch with a couple of other dogs. He has been around a variety of farm animals and may thrive as a livestock guardian dog in his next home. He has been outdoors with other dogs (herding breeds) and does not have experience indoors. A companion animal home may be in his future but adopters may need to be patient in Peepo’s transition to indoor living with things like potty training and other “house rules”. Staff have observed that Peepo has been calm and quiet in his kennel. When out in the yards with other dogs, he lounges and relaxes. Peepo has lived with other dogs and has made friends with other dogs since arriving at the Shelter. A home with canine companions may be a fit. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
