Story
Meet Cadbury, the shepherd husky mix. Cadbury arrived at the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about his life before the Shelter. Although a little shy with new people, Cadbury warms up and is a soft, sweet boy with time and patience. Cadbury has met some dogs at the Shelter and may enjoy the company of some more than others. Any resident dogs are recommended to meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Cadbury went on a little vacation from the Shelter with a volunteer who reports: `I took Cadbury out last week for a few hours for a quiet walk in our neighborhood and a nap at my house. He was comfortable with both me and my husband. Easy. He leans in for pets. And he went into a deep sleep when I took him home. He was very good on the walk. Easy and not pulling. Didn’t look at squirrels or cats. I’ve seen him with other volunteers and he comes in close for hugs and pets.`Cadbury`s adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation`s Leave No One Behind fund- a fund that draws adopter`s eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Khloe is a 9 month old Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. I adopted her about 6 months ago shortly after I lost my father to help with grief. At first things were going well but then my mother became ill and recently I have not been able to give her the attention she needs. Unfortunately there will be a lot of changes this coming year and I don’t have the resources, income, or mental capacity to take care of Khloe. She is a high energy puppy who would thrive in a big outdoor space and with other dogs she can learn from and coexist with. She has not been around children. She is very playful and it can become a little rambunctious. I blame that on myself not being able to give her the attention she needs the last few months so she is acting out. She is crate trained and potty trained. She is super smart, protective and a bit stubborn which is common for her breed. I’m hoping to find her a good home so I don’t have to return her to the shelter. Thank you for reading :)

Story
Enzo is a 5 yr old Male Pyrenees. We are seeking an experienced dog handler who is confident and loving to care for our special boy. He is very large and does well with a confident yet loving handler. He does not like a lot of activity. He is very laid back. He does not like delivery drivers and will bark when someone is around that he does not know. He would do well on a farm or in a space large enough to accommodate him. One walk a day is usually enough for him. Serious inquiries only. It is difficult to let him go but we will feel better knowing his new owner will care for and love him.

Story
I have had Blanca now for about three months. She was running wild at one of the ranches I work at. She was probably abandoned one and a half to two years prior to that and was scared of people so we couldn’t get close to her. She finally lost so much weight that she had to come near me to get food. I caught her and after about a day, she warmed right up to me. She must’ve been someone’s house dog that was abandoned. I’ve kept her in my house several nights and she’s not had one accident. She’s ridden in my truck several hours now and has not had an accident in there either. I don’t think she loves riding in the vehicle, but she tolerates it without any sickness or physical stress. My local vet helped me get her up to speed on her vaccines, rabies, fleas, the whole 9 yards. She’s a really good dog that works well around my nieces and nephews and is super loving. She is actively shedding a bit, but my vet says she will get through that and come back normal.
