Story
Wrigley is a 100 pound cuddle bug. We suspect he may be part Great Dabe, He loves people and his favorite thing is to cuddle up with his people and his foster siblings.  Wrigley is a very happy pup, who is always wagging his tail. He loves toys, soft beds, and the backyard.   Wrigley gets along well with dogs of all sizes and he needs to live with another medium or large dog who is willing to play. He'd also be happiest in a family that is at home with him a lot. He is smart and knows sit, wait, shake, and down.      Wrigley is looking for a family: that will be affectionate and playful with him with another dog to be his companion and playmate who'll be consistent and patient in helping him learn not to pull on a leash provide him with lots of bones and toys to chew on Wrigley is looking for a  forever family to give all his love to. Story
Alek’s personality shines through his expressive ears— they move together and individually as an adorable perky pair! He gets along well with his foster families cats. He would like to be friends with the cats—if they would just let him.  Alek has a genetic condition that is causing him to go blind slowly called progressive, retinal, atrophy or PRA. His vision is currently estimated to be around 20% of normal.   When he was first brought into his foster home, he learned the layout quickly!  He walks well on the leash and isn’t easily startled with passing cars.  Alek can see a cat walking within 6 feet, but can sometimes stumble over his foster brother’s feet that may be sticking out! He can sprint up and down the stairs and do zoomies in the backyard. He leads the way on walks and wants to greet everyone he sees! His sight disability really isn’t that impairing to him!  Alec is a young dog and he deserves to have a happy long life in a loving home. He enjoys all the same things that other greyhounds love, including soft beds, long naps zoomies in the backyard and walks. Alek will need a canine companion in his new home. Story
This story is about a sweet boy who deserves to live every moment to his fullest. Meet Gunner, a 7-year-old greyhound mix who has stolen the hearts of so many. He was a former coyote hunting dog ready for retirement from that life, so when KCREGAP was asked to find a loving home for him, we immediately agreed. After Gunner arrived it was noticed by REGAP volunteers that something wasn’t quite right. He walked crookedly and strangely held his head and tail. His back legs also sank as he tried to stand to urinate. After seeing a vet, it was determined that Gunner had painful areas throughout his entire spine and both hips. It was also discovered that Gunner has a healed broken vertebrae in his neck that causes him to tilt his head permanently to the left. In addition, his bloodwork revealed stage 4 kidney failure. Gunner was started on antibiotics for a possible tick-borne disease and was treated with another drug for the suspected illness caused by a tick bite. His pain became much less problematic and his gait improved enormously.  Unfortunately, it was too late for Gunner’s kidney function to return after being treated for the tick-born disease, he remains in stage 4 chronic kidney failure so he was started on a kidney support diet which has improved his energy level. Lastly, thanks to Dr. Martin at Marketplace Animal Hospital, Gunner was neutered to relieve an enlarged prostate.   It has been a long journey for Gunner. He has had to live in a crate, at the vet clinic, and in a run at a kennel the entire time he has been with KCREGAP during this ongoing treatment, but his life is now so much improved because he   feels SO much better. He is too interested in cats to live safely in a house with feline friends but with easy-going dogs, Gunner enjoys canine companionship.   KCREGAP is looking for someone willing to let Gunner live out the rest of his life in a home where he feels safe and has ALL the creature comforts such as big dog beds, soft blankies to snuggle in and rearrange, and maybe a couch to curl up on with someone who adores him. Gunner doesn’t act sick! He is so happy to feel better and even wants to romp around sometimes. He is awesome on a leash and in the backyard, loves people and is so very affectionate, oh, and speaking of love, Gunner LOVES his food!!  He will take his dry food as treats for doing good boy deeds and loves a kong stuffed with his special wet food that he can spend an hour licking to get every last morsel.   PLEASE help us find an adopter or hospice foster for Gunner! He deserves a chance to experience a home of his own and spend the rest of however long he has with us in peace and comfort. You can contact us at  information@kcregap.org  with questions.  Please share Gunner’s story so we can find him a loving place to land for the rest of his remaining days.  April 17, 2024, 9:37 pm

Story
Hi there! I’m Mick and I know my adorable puppy eyes and sweet smile are sure to melt hearts wherever I go. I’ve learned to be a good boy when it comes to potty training and I am a pro at walking on a leash. My favorite thing in the world is playing with toys and you’ll find them scattered everywhere in my happy home. I would love to have a doggy sibling to play with since I adore playing with my doggy foster brothers who have been teaching me the ropes of proper doggy interaction. I just can’t wait to find my “furever” family.    We adopt within 3 hours of Kansas City.April 17, 2024, 9:37 pm

Story
I may be a senior pup, but I like to think of myself as senior in high school, so handsome and young-looking! I’m also just learning how to be a dog! Toys and bones have become some of my favorite things along with lots of love. I really enjoy walks and my foster mom says I’m great on a leash if you don’t mind me exploring both sides of the sidewalk. Since I came to KC REGAP in January, I’ve learned that most humans are actually really nice and now I love to meet new people; I get so excited! I’m not sure about other dogs along the sidewalk, and I definitely don’t do well with small dogs or cats. In the backyard, you won’t find me doing zoomies yet; I haven’t quite figured that out. However, I have discovered my voice and love to let you hear it when I get excited or am ready to play! I’m super gentle with treats!  I am learning the rules of the house and have done okay with my foster sister, but my mom says I would really do well as an only dog!  My ideal household would be one with older human siblings (teenage+) or adults. I still get startled and will let you know if I don’t like something, but my foster mom says I’ve made huge improvements since I came to KC REGAP. Patience is key with me as I’m still adjusting my personal space; but I will lean in real hard (almost knocking you over) as I show you affection!
