Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville (info@greyhoundpetsinc.org) for more information about this pet.PandoraTag No: 7009Registered Name: NoneBreed: Greyhound MixDate of Birth:  Approx Jan 2021Color: FawnCat Trainable: NoDog Friendly: NoKid Friendly: UnknownWeight:  63 poundsLocation: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)Adoption Fee:  $ZeroComments:  Pandora is a fun loving sighthound with a million watt smile and a personality to match.  A volunteer and staff favorite, Pandora is Pop-u-lar!  When you meet her you too will be won over by her relaxed, friendly charm and humorous antics.Pandora is a long legged blonde with a mysterious past.  All we know about her former life is she was rescued by our friends at Team Inch Sighthound Rescue from a South Korean dog shelter.  Pandora’s gene pool is a true sighthound party mix, comprised of 77% Greyhound, 14% Irish Wolfhound, 5% Borzoi, 2% Polish Greyhound, and 2% other stuff.  Pandora is about the same height of a larger greyhound but a bit fuzzier and very strong for her size. She absolutely loves all people and loves to play and frolic in our large grassy play yard (alone or with a human friend).  When she isn’t playing with people, she is a confident, low-key, and independent girl who will happily amuse herself by tossing toys up to pounce on!  After playtime she’s also glad just to chill by your side.No guarantees, but we think Pandora will make a great housemate. The GPI kennel attendants give Pandora an “A+” at keeping her kennel tidy and she hasn’t shown to be much of a barker.  Pandora is very bright, and is an eager pupil who likes to learn. As much as Pandora adores people,  she cannot live with cats or other small animals.  Nor is she really a fan of other dogs, particularly stranger dogs.  While Pandora is cordial to the other dogs at GPI and can tolerate walks with sighthounds or other dogs to whom she has been properly introduced, she is reactive to dogs who are strangers.  Pandora’s trainer has made huge strides in reducing/controlling her reactivity when she encounters strange dogs in the world outside of GPI. We think Pandora’s reactivity will continue to improve with her new family if they will commit to a regular desensitization practice.  Pandora’s adoption includes four one-hour private training sessions with her professional trainer who will show her new family how to handle and lessen her dog reactivity. Her family can be quiet or busy, and possibly have older, dog-savvy kids.   But because of her size and strength her family should have no little children.  Pandora’s home needs to be with an experienced dog owner in a quiet area with a large, fenced yard in which to play and lounge.  She is not suited for life where she will have chance encounters with strange dogs in close quarters.  Thus Pandora should not be in a densely populated situation like an apartment/condo/townhome, an urban area, or another closely packed area (e.g., farmers market, dog friendly pub, and pet store). That said, Pandora will be a great companion for hiking in lesser frequented areas, camping, and other unpopulated outdoor adventures. She loves walks and has nice leash manners when there are no stranger dogs nearby. She adores people and affection and would make a great and loyal companion.  Gale would do best in a home with a canine companion. We are going to retest her with cats as her testing was inconclusive. He loves gentle pets and a rub down when you return from walks and sometimes he will approach you for gentle pats as well. But generally speaking, he is totally happy to just chill on his dog beds or a rug or pile of clothes and watch you while you go about your day at home. He has been fine being home alone for up to 8 hours. He hasn't had any accidents indoors, nor has he caused any mischief while home alone - no chewing of furniture or stealing food off the counter (at least not yet!). He is always excited to go for a little walk or a car ride. In car rides, he initially would pant a lot and stay standing. More recently, he has cozied up right away on rides and loves to hang out in the back seat, unbothered. He has done well in an apartment (foster home) but keep in mind he likes his space and it would be a good idea to have a few designated spots for him to maintain his comfort zone when he is 'peopled-out'. He easily does stairs and elevator rides. On walks, Ben has the cutest strut! He tires out rather quickly, so he may not be the best hiking buddy. But several daily walks will keep him happy and smiling! His adopters will need to work on making sure he knows he is safe when he sees other dogs as he will whine or even bark to make sure his bubble isn't invaded. Diced up hot dogs have proven to be a great distraction for Ben when he gets nervous on walks. Even though he hasn't had an incident on a walk, his behavior shows he is not comfortable interacting with strangers or other dogs, so someone will need to be willing to patiently conduct ongoing training for safe walks. One other thing to keep in mind with Ben: he does exhibit signs of resource guarding with his food bowl and certain toys. His people will need to patiently work on training Ben to know he is safe when people are nearby his food bowls or himself with a toy or food-filled kong. There are lots of tips and strategies that can be learned and practiced with the help of Ms. Rosyn, the kennel trainer. His foster home has worked on this, and there are signs of improvement, but this is an ongoing learning process for Ben and his adopters to work on.Children make Ben nervous, so he needs a home without children.  He will also need a home without cats or small dogs.Ben is a wonderful companion for someone looking to open their home to this sweet, sleek, walk-enthusiastic boy! This boy just needs a chance! Let's talk!!Clover is a sweet, happy, friendly boy once he knows you and is comfortable with you.  He is smart and eager to learn.  He is delightful and playful!  He loves to play fetch!  He can be unsure around new people and situations and will need a home with a more experienced adopter to help guide him.Clover has been nervous on walks, so we are working with him to build up his confidence.  He responds well to positive training methods and he is very food motivated.  He knows several commands and is eager to please you.Clover and his two brothers originally came to us from Mexico.  Clover was in a home and returned due to some aggressive tendencies and reactivity to other dogs that he exhibited in his home.He will need a home without cats or small dogs, and may need to be an only dog.  Clover would do best in a home with a fenced yard rather than an apartment/condo/townhome.  Clover comes with 4 training sessions with our Trainer. While her genetic profile shows 52.4% Greyhound, 17.1% Borzoi, 17.1% American Pit Bull Terrier, and 13.4% Belgian Malinois, we at GPI speculate Ebony is 99% dog, 1% locomotive. From her greyhound lineage she inherited a friendly, upbeat, playful, and affectionate nature. She also is an intelligent, responsive, and eager student who loves to learn and engage with people. Don’t tell the other GPI dogs, but a professional trainer confessed that if she could adopt a greyhound, she would likely choose Ebony for her combination of brains and personality. What about the 1% locomotive? First of all her coat is steel grey, a color common for trains but quite unusual for greyhounds. What’s more, Ebony is remarkably strong and high energy by greyhound standards. She has an enthusiastic and curious side which can scatter her attention when she encounters something novel or interesting. Because Ebony has had little experience in the world outside the shelter/kennel environment, it currently doesn’t take much novelty to make her enthusiastically curious, and perhaps a little vocal and distracted. But when this happens it only takes a bit of patience and effort to redirect her attention.Ebony could fit into many types of families, though is a bit too big, jumpy, and high energy to be around tiny or frail people. She needs a home with a fenced yard and a family committed to providing her daily with plenty of exercise in a secure, leash-free romping area. Because she is so strong she will need to be walked by a person who is also strong and very steady on their feet.Ebony can do well seeing other dogs on walks, but she would prefer to be an only dog.  Ebony can be very affectionate, but she also has a energetic, strong, enthusiastic, and fun-loving side. Ebony does have  a prey drive that makes her untrustworthy around small dogs and similarly-sized animals, and is certainly not cat safe. We think she could be happy as an only dog, as long her person or family spends a lot of quality time mentally engaging with and physically exercising her.All Ebony needs is a little training and real world experience to teach her to focus consistently on her person rather than external novelties. Her energy, sweet people-pleasing disposition, and intelligence will make her an exceptional companion to both people and larger dogs alike! Sponsored by Elizabeth Lechner Ebony would love to have a sponsor while she waits for her forever home.  More info here: https://greyhoundpetsinc.org/support/sponsor-a-dog/ Greyhound Pets, Inc. - www.greyhoundpetsinc.org - 877-468-7681 WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT A GREYHOUND?
