Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Landenberg, Pennsylvania for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Sweet little Carmela has been through quite the journey, but her gentle heart and loving spirit shine through every day. Carmela came to us from a local shelter after being found as a stray. She had a large open mammary mass that needed immediate care. Thankfully, she received the treatment she needed — a mass removal, dental cleaning, and spay — and we’re so happy to share that her mass was benign! She’s now fully recovered and ready to enjoy her golden years in a loving forever home. This lovely lady is starting to come out of her shell more each day. She enjoys going for walks, exploring the yard, and curling up for snuggles on your lap. She’s also happy to find a cozy bed for some solo nap time — the perfect mix of affectionate and independent! Carmela is doing well with her potty training and just needs a consistent schedule to stay on track. She eats soft food (she only has a few teeth left, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit!) and has no trouble with stairs. She gets along great with other dogs and would do well in a calm, loving home. Wiggles is a 7 year old spayed female havanese who weighs 11 pounds. This adorable little girl was rescued from poor conditions and we cannot imagine what she has been through. She is a bit shy to start, but has started to wiggle when she gets happy, had her first zoom around the yard and we cannot wait for her to be spoiled rotten. She has tested great with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced in yard for her safety. hi Bess, this pretty lady is a 9 year old Havanese. She was surrendered to us by a commercial breeder when they no longer wanted her. She is 15 lbs. After a long time at the puppy mill, it is not surprising that Bess came to us very scared and nervous. While she allows all handling, she is a sensitive girl that needs time to open up and feel more comfortable. Despite that, she does well in playgroups with other little dogs and will cuddle up on a volunteer's lap when she needs a rest. She is hoping for a loving and patient home that will continue working on her confidence. She would also like a home with another dog that is social and friendly so she could model those behaviors after them. She will come spayed, vaccinated, 4dx tested and microchipped. I wanted a companion for my Yorkie, so I decided to adopt another dog. After visiting several shelters, I chose to adopt Chewy from Shake A Paw in Union, NJ I was told he had been returned because he supposedly bit someone, but he has never bitten anyone in my family. He has been around children and strangers with no issues. Chewy does bark at people at first, but once you start petting him, he never wants you to stop. He is, however, very jealous of any dog that receives my attention. If I’m giving attention to my Yorkie, he may try to jump on top of her, bark, growl, and he will jump up on me if I’m holding her. I am afraid he will eventually hurt her. When he is being held and petted himself, he is completely content. Chewy would do best as the only dog in the home. He loves attention, enjoys playing fetch, and adores his toys. With someone who has time and affection just for him, he is truly a little ray of sunshine.
