Luna is a 4 year old gentle, calm and sweet girl. We got her a rescue mutt center in Chicopee last year. She’s amazing with kids, not so well with other animals especially younger hyper dogs. We want her to go to a loving home that only needs one dog.

Story
Jeffrey is a social, outgoing, dog who has been making friends since the day he wiggled his way through the doors at TJO. This lovable bundle of energy almost folds himself in half while greeting all his new friends, and happily shows how well he knows fun skills. OTHER PETS: Jeffrey greets other dogs appropriately and is social with them when he is not content doing his own thing. He would likely get along well with other social, playful dogs and should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]KIDS: Jeffrey is comfortable with most handling (he avoids his mouth being handled,) social with humans and dogs, and has not engaged in resource-guarding while at TJO. Jeffrey would get along with most humans and would especially enjoy those who engage in play with him. As with all our dogs, Jeffrey should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [Must Meet First] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Jeffrey enjoys squeaky toys and zooming around outside after he finishes exploring with his nose. He is social with humans, energetic, and enjoys tasty treats. Jeffrey would do well with daily walks and the incorporation of enrichment and toys to challenge his mind, his dream would be to have his own fenced area to zoomie in whenever he wanted to. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Jeffrey bond with his new owner and help learn skills and fun tricks. Jeffrey really enjoys zoomies and exploring outside. [Minimal] GROOMING: Regular brushing will help keep Jeffrey's coat clean and matt-free while keeping shedding to a minimum. During times of heavy shedding, you may choose to have a professional groomer assist with deshedding baths. [Regular Brushing] January 9, 2026, 9:41 pm

Story
Meet Sysco! A spirited two-and-a-half-year-old Siberian Husky currently in Hamden, CT, whose essence is a whirlwind of energy wrapped in a striking red and white coat, with eyes that sparkle with curiosity and loyalty. Built for movement and full of heart, Sysco is the definition of an adventure buddy! Whether he's darting across a yard in full sprint, diving into a game of fetch, or challenging you to an epic round of tug of war, this boy lives for activity. He’s also got a soft side, after a long day of play, he’s all about snuggling up with his favorite stuffed animal (or your arm, if you’ll allow it) for some well-earned cuddle time. Smart and eager to please, Sysco knows several commands like sit, paw, boop, and lay down. He’s crate-trained, house-trained, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, ready for his next chapter with a family who can provide structure, love, and lots of play. While he’s comfortable being alone for short periods, his true happiness shines brightest when he’s with people who make him feel safe. Sysco is still working on his confidence and trust, especially with men, but he's made encouraging progress with patient, gentle guidance. He bonds quickly with women and thrives with consistency, positive reinforcement, and routines like his twice-daily meals and cozy kennel bedtime. Loud noises, sudden movements, and especially food are triggers for him, and he needs a compassionate home that understands these sensitivities. He can be protective of his food around unfamiliar people, especially men, so a home with adults or older teens who are experienced or willing to learn is ideal. While he hasn’t had many opportunities to mingle with other dogs or cats he's shown some anxiety, but never aggression, around other pups. He’ll need continued socialization and confidence-building to help him flourish. With the right balance of patience, structure, and affection, Sysco’s loyalty knows no bounds! Could you be the one to help this intelligent, affectionate, and beautiful Husky continue to blossom? If you’re ready for the joy of a lifetime, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com and let the next great adventure begin!

Story
Meet Kippa! A spirited five-year-old Siberian Husky/Shepherd mix currently living in Wilton, CT, whose heart is as big as her love for snuggles. Wrapped in a gorgeous grey-and-white coat, this medium-sized adventurer is an affectionate, intelligent, and playful companion who thrives when surrounded by her favorite people. Kippa is happiest when she’s part of the action—whether it’s exploring the great outdoors, going for long walks, or even taking a refreshing swim in the pool with the kids. She’s always up for a cuddle session, making her the perfect constant companion for anyone looking for a loving, people-oriented pup! She knows a few important commands like “sit,” “leave it,” and “okay,” but she would benefit from continued training to build her confidence and skills. Kippa adores people and is friendly with strangers, but she can be selective with other dogs. In her current home, she has had altercations with another resident dog and once with a neighbor’s dog while in her space, which may stem from resource guarding or feeling the need to assert control in her environment. However, she does well in neutral settings like doggie daycare, where she has no issues with socialization or aggression. To ensure her happiness and comfort, Kippa would thrive as the only pet in her new home, where she can enjoy one-on-one attention from her family. Kippa does well when left alone in the house and settles in comfortably with her family at night, whether snoozing close by or finding her own cozy spot. While she’s a confident and loving dog, she does experience some stress in certain situations. She gets anxious at vet visits (where the staff describes her as sweet and cooperative) and when left alone in the car for short periods. A bit of extra care and patience in these moments will help her feel secure. Her ideal home would be with an experienced pet parent who understands the needs of Huskies and Shepherds—someone active and ready to provide both mental and physical enrichment. A securely fenced yard is a must to give her a safe space to enjoy her outdoor time. To make sure that Kippa has a great start with her new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. Kippa is ready to shower her new family with love, loyalty, and endless snuggles! Could she be the perfect match for you? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about bringing this affectionate girl into your home!

When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative).
