Story
Zelda is an outgoing girl who is looking for her Link - an adventure buddy who can help her master the TriForce of Wisdom and protect the lands of Hyrule from Ganon's evil plans. Zelda is jumpy when excited so she has a special behavorial plan - all humans living with Zelda should be able to follow her plan so that she is set up for success!OTHER PETS: Zelda is comfortable and relaxed with other dogs, and would likely get along with most. She should meet any dogs she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Zelda has arousal that can build and is still working on not jumping up at faces; she has also demonstrated that she is a capable counter surfer, and is sometimes avoidant of handling. Zelda would do best with the support of someone that has experience with high arousal dogs and is willing to commit to helping Zelda be the best dog she can be. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Zelda is an outgoing dog who is social with humans and does not engage in resource guarding. While she would likely get along with any humans, to set her up for success she will only be adopted into homes where everyone will be able to follow her behavior plan. Zelda should meet any minor humans she would be living with prior to adoption. [Able to Follow Behavior Plan (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Zelda will need a good mix of mental and physical exercise to ensure that she grows up into the best dog she can be and has the best, healthiest, life she can. Multiple daily walks or play sessions combined with training and mental enrichment toys will meet her needs and once properly trained, dog sports or adventuring with her humans can be incorporated into the mix. [Olympic Athlete]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Zelda bond with her new owner, build confidence, and ensure she knows her behavorial expectations. Zelda already has a plan to place to help her learn how to not jump when excited - this plan should be followed by Zelda's entire household to ensure that she is set up for success. Further training would allow for Zelda to participate in dog sports and accompany her humans on adventures. [Moderate] GROOMING: Routine brushing will keep Zelda's coat clean and matt-free, during periods of heavy shedding some owners choose to have the assistance of a groomer. Story
OTHER PETS: Za is relaxed with other dogs, gives feedback well when uncomfortable during interactions, or simply relaxes in another dog's presence after successful greetings. He would do well as an only dog, and would also be a good fit for other mellow dogs who are well socialized and communicate effectively. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Za is a relaxed dog who communicates his boundaries well, but is also a strong dog who is still learning skills such as loose leash walking. Someone experienced with strong dogs and reading dog body language would be a best fit for Za, as well as experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Za is uncomfortable with some handling, but will also solicit human interaction. He has not engaged in resource guarding while at TJO. Za is strong, and while mostly mellow can be jumpy when excited. Za's best fit would be with adult humans who have experience reading dog body language and will be able to respect Za's boundaries; Za will not be adopted into a home with children. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Za really enjoys spending time outside, either on a walk or free roaming in one of our outdoor runs. Regular exercise combined with lots of mental enrichment such as food puzzles or games will help meet his needs. Learning new skills and tricks with positive reinforcement are also great ways to keep him active and engaged. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Za bond with his new owner as well as well as help him learn new skills and fun tricks while building confidence. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Za's coat clean and matt-free, some owners choose to get professional grooms twice a year to help with the excess fur during shedding season. When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Story
GIA was pulled from the local Animal Control in pretty rough condition. Gia is a 2-year-old Husky mix, girl who loves to be with people. Gia is a sweet and loving dog but, we think a man must have been mean to her at sometime in her short life. Gia would never bite but, she howls when first introduced to a man. We are working on this with her and she is getting better but, she may need a little extra time and patience in this area. Gia likes to chew on her toys, she has a sweet and calm disposition and she is house trained. Gia had a rough start in life, but she is looking forward to a bright and happy future with a forever family. Applications can be found on our website at, www.starbrightanimalrescue.org or please e-mail us at sbanimalrescue@yahoo.com for an application to adopt GIA. We try to respond to ALL inquiries so, please check your junk mailbox if, you're waiting to hear from us.
