Story
Kobe is a handsome husky with a big personality—true to his breed, he loves to “talk” and let you know exactly what’s on his mind! He’s a social, friendly guy who enjoys leaning into his people for pets and attention. Kobe absolutely loves being outside and would be thrilled with a home where he can run around the yard, explore, and burn off some energy. Toys are another favorite of his, and he’s always up for some playtime. He has lived well with another dog in the past and has done well meeting dogs here at the shelter, but we do recommend meet-and-greets with any resident dogs to make sure everyone is a good match. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, talkative husky who’s ready to be your adventure buddy, Kobe might just be your perfect match! Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. Story
Luna is a 4-year-old husky described by her family as calm, gentle, and incredibly sweet. She is well mannered in the home and enjoys a nice balance of activity and relaxation. Luna loves spending time outside, whether it’s exploring the yard or going for a walk, and then is happiest cuddled up on the couch with her people. She has lived with children as young as 10 and has done well. Luna thrives with a steady routine and appreciates a peaceful home where she can feel secure. While she enjoys getting fresh air and exercise, she also settles nicely and is content to relax by your side at the end of the day. Luna needs to be the only dog in her home. She does not seek out trouble and prefers to ignore other dogs, but she is uncomfortable when they get in her space and may react if they push her boundaries. In a home where she can be the sole pet and enjoy her own space, Luna is a loyal and affectionate companion. Ready to Adopt? Story
OTHER PETS: Za is relaxed with other dogs, gives feedback well when uncomfortable during interactions, or simply relaxes in another dog's presence after successful greetings. He would do well as an only dog, and would also be a good fit for other mellow dogs who are well socialized and communicate effectively. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Za is a relaxed dog who communicates his boundaries well, but is also a strong dog who is still learning skills such as loose leash walking. Someone experienced with strong dogs and reading dog body language would be a best fit for Za, as well as experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Za is uncomfortable with some handling, but will also solicit human interaction. He has not engaged in resource guarding while at TJO. Za is strong, and while mostly mellow can be jumpy when excited. Za's best fit would be with adult humans who have experience reading dog body language and will be able to respect Za's boundaries; Za will not be adopted into a home with children. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Za really enjoys spending time outside, either on a walk or free roaming in one of our outdoor runs. Regular exercise combined with lots of mental enrichment such as food puzzles or games will help meet his needs. Learning new skills and tricks with positive reinforcement are also great ways to keep him active and engaged. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Za bond with his new owner as well as well as help him learn new skills and fun tricks while building confidence. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Za's coat clean and matt-free, some owners choose to get professional grooms twice a year to help with the excess fur during shedding season. As a rescue, We do not euthanize dogs but dogs that are listed as URGENT are still waiting to be saved from animal control and they do euthanise. We can only save them when space is available or have an adopter. Abel is 2-3 years old Siberian husky, he’s 70lbs and he’s a stunner, he’s more on the dominant side, but shares a cell with another intact male and does fine, huskies right, that’s just who the boys are, husky people love those huskies! He’s heart worm positive which would have to be treated before he goes to a forever home which takes around 2 months. He would of course also be neutered.
