Story
OTHER PETS: Za is relaxed with other dogs, gives feedback well when uncomfortable during interactions, or simply relaxes in another dog's presence after successful greetings. He would do well as an only dog, and would also be a good fit for other mellow dogs who are well socialized and communicate effectively. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Za is a relaxed dog who communicates his boundaries well, but is also a strong dog who is still learning skills such as loose leash walking. Someone experienced with strong dogs and reading dog body language would be a best fit for Za, as well as experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Za is uncomfortable with some handling, but will also solicit human interaction. He has not engaged in resource guarding while at TJO. Za is strong, and while mostly mellow can be jumpy when excited. Za's best fit would be with adult humans who have experience reading dog body language and will be able to respect Za's boundaries; Za will not be adopted into a home with children. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Za really enjoys spending time outside, either on a walk or free roaming in one of our outdoor runs. Regular exercise combined with lots of mental enrichment such as food puzzles or games will help meet his needs. Learning new skills and tricks with positive reinforcement are also great ways to keep him active and engaged. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Za bond with his new owner as well as well as help him learn new skills and fun tricks while building confidence. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Za's coat clean and matt-free, some owners choose to get professional grooms twice a year to help with the excess fur during shedding season. To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Remy is a 6 mo female Husky mix who was abandoned as a stray on the streets of Memphis. This pup lives in the house with her foster family where she's lovingly cared for while awaiting her forever home. Happy, playful, outgoing puppy! Friendly and well-socialized. Loves kids! Great with other dogs. Not cat tested. Crate trained and housebroken. Good on a leash, rides great in the car. DOB estimated 7-1-25. Weighs about 35 pounds and expected to be a medium sized dog when fully grown. Healthy, altered and utd on shots. This is a happy puppy who will make a great companion (and jogging partner) for an active family with kids who love the breed. Video 1 (copy and paste into a new browser window) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLS7qQ0Yj1I Video 2 (copy and paste into a new browser window) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F91z-04nVI Badger is a husky mix who was listed at the shelter as 8 years old. When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative).
