Story
Rory is one of those dogs who just blossoms when she knows she’s safe and loved. From the moment her foster got her home she knew she was going to going to get to see her in full bloom and she absolutely has. Although I spent a few hours with Rory, enjoyed her company and got to know her more, most all of what is shared here is from her devoted foster. With a front row seat she has the best view. Take a look at her beautiful view, get to know Rory a little more and then come back to read more. https://youtu.be/uApRznAenJU At home, Rory’s an absolute sweetheart. No accidents here! She’ll let you know when she needs to go out, usually by whining and giving you that classic “let me out, please!” look. She’s a big fan of toys and loves playing fetch, though she might not always bring it back to you, its kind of her way of taking a break. She’s definitely part couch potato too – or in her case chair potato. Her favorite place to curl up is on the armchair, where she goes from happily watching TV with you to full on snoring. You’ll still be able to hear the tv though, they are just quiet little snores. Rory is estimated to be 5 years old, weighs 57 lbs, and may be a husky/lab mix. Of course, she is a rescue so age and breed are not details we can guarantee. Rory’s foster praises her for being friendly with people and great with kids. She shared that her two- and three-year-old niece and nephew adored her, and she was always so gentle and patient with them. On top of a variety of dogs, Rory met a two-month-old puppy during a recent visit at a family friends house and had fun playing and was so sweet on him. She lives with dogs and has met all sorts of dogs, big, small, young to old. She can be a bit shy during on-leash greetings but is polite and if she is not feeling comfortable she will simply keep on walking. Rory is definitely more of a dog-companion than a dog-playmate with her best match being easy-going dogs that don’t feel the need to push or insist she play. She doesn’t mind gently letting them know in her own doggy way that she isn’t interested and then moves on. Rory has basic leash skills and continues to learn in new environments. She recently got to tag-along for a pet-store run and was very polite but a little unsure of walking next to the cart but settled in after just a few minutes. Clearly she is a smart cookie and picks things up quickly. Her foster has praised her crate manners, calling her a rock star! She is quiet and settles into sleep easily. She also knows basic commands including “sit”and “lay down.” She also learns quickly and takes correction well. We would love to see Rory in a home with a yard, adding a family with kids to that scene would be the true dream. Rory does not need another dog in the home, her people and a few toys will fill her bucket each and every day. The only no we would encourage is no cats. Her foster has cats and will attest to her attempts to get a good game of chase in when she first met them. They are kept separate now after one curious moment turned into a little too much excitement, so a cat-free home is best. Overall, Rory is a loving, fun, and smart pup who’s just waiting to be part of your family. She’s come so far in such a short time and is ready to keep learning and loving with you by her side. If you’re looking for a loyal buddy who’s as happy exploring the world as she is snuggling up for TV time, Rory’s your girl! Ready to make the first move? For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. Story
**Fostered in Camillus NY and ready for Meet and Greets** Introducing my good friend, buddy, and pal, Mr. Duke Handsome Jones. Duke is quite the charmer with his extremely adorable pointy ears and a face that melts hearts everywhere he goes. He is a lanky boy with room to grow and is sure to be an incredible addition to a very lucky family. We believe Duke is right around a year and a half old and a shepherd mix of some sort. He is approximately 60 pounds and still filling out. He has the best chunky paws and a smile that makes you want to cover him with kisses. As with all rescue dogs, his age and breed are our best guesses and cannot be guaranteed. That mystery is just part of the magic of rescue. Meet Duke Here! https://youtu.be/R0EJakUz5m4 Duke currently lives in a home with one other playful dog and does great. After a brief, polite introduction, he was ready to jump right into play and has proven to be a wonderful canine companion. He would do well in a home with another medium energy dog or as an only dog who can soak up all the love and attention. Duke is a higher energy guy who will thrive in an active home. He loves to move, play, and especially loves a good game of fetch. A fenced yard would be ideal for him so he has space to safely run and burn off that happy energy. He is also crate trained and settles nicely, making him a great balance of playful and manageable. More than anything, Duke wants a person. A human who will be his best friend, adventure buddy, and constant companion. He is incredibly loyal and ready to form a deep bond. Duke is young, full of life, and learning how wonderful the world can be. His future is bright, and the family who brings him home is going to gain a devoted, joyful sidekick for years to come. Do you believe Duke is who your family is missing. Apply for him today. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6831d6ae5f1c45fa9907f0bb Questions? Story
Dearie is a coyote-fox cutie with a demure but playful personality. She has a soft, little soul, and likes to take things slow, but always sweetly. Yes, she is shy at first, but she is also perfectly playful, deeply dog-friendly, and the kind of dog who already just knows her house manners and all about an inside voice and outside play. Dearie is currently 8 months old and weighs 28 lbs (with a little growing still to do), and her curious foster has had her DNA tested and we are happy to share the most delightfully random results: 25% Siberian Husky 12% Boston Terrier 8% Chow Chow 7% Great Pyrenees and 6% American Pitbull Terrier. Super fun and crazy, right?! Want to see Dearie’s sweet toy parade and gentle vibe in motion? Head to YouTube for “Dearie’s Toy Parade | Playful Babe” https://youtu.be/nTbCo5___wk In her foster home, Dearie lives with three wild heelers(their owners words) and that has single-handedly has given her an excellent sense of dog play, that she balances with plenty of self-entertaining toy time, always followed by a good rest. Her foster raves that she’s house-trained and crate-trained, with beautiful house manners and a loving-but-not-clingy personality. She’s affectionate in a respectful way, the type who says “hi, I adore you” and then happily goes to lounge some where nearby. Now, the toys! Dearie is a toy enthusiast in the most adorable way. Every toy is her favorite toy, and she may genuinely play with every single thing in the toy box in one day. Her foster laughs about her “toy parade”, she’ll carry something around proudly, invite a dog friend to join in, and if they’re not interested, she’ll simply take it to her bed like, “No worries, I’ll enjoy this over here..” It’s ridiculously cute. On leash, Dearie is a gem. She’s described as a wonderful walking partner who enjoys peaceful strolls and calm exploring more than bustling city treks. Inside the home, she also understands the difference between inside play and outside play, which is basically the kind of emotional intelligence we all aspire to. Wild games of chase are outside olay. Quiet little “wrestling” matches on a dog bed- perfectly okay inside. Dearie could potentially live with a calm cat, especially if she has a doggie buddy for her playful side. She was cautiously respectful when meeting our house cat, and we say “calm cat” only because a bold, bossy cat might intimidate her. She’s not looking for chaos, she’s looking for cozy. Dearie’s ideal home would be a quieter household with a simple rhythm, where she can settle in gently and feel secure. No busy, high-stimulation lifestyle needed, just the good basics- calm companionship, a generous toy-box, and a routine that includes play, walks, and cozy cuddles. And a little grace while she warms up. A home without young kids would be best, simply because the constant motion and noise of little ones could be overwhelming for her sensitive nature. If you’re looking for a petite, dog-friendly girl with excellent manners, a toy-collecting hobby, and the kind of calm that truly makes a house feel peaceful… Dearie might be your perfect match. Apply to adopt Dearie today (and you might as well start collecting toys.) https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/68c5d45c17b76c30ce047f06 Questions? Story
Daphne would like to file an appeal with the court of public opinion! Huskies are not all aloof! This husky girl is affectionate, couch-snuggly, and very generous with kisses… she just delivers her love in true Husky fashion, with confidence and options. Want to see the full Husky experience on video? Head to YouTube for “Daphne | The Full Husky Experience” (Daphne Full Husky Experience Edition) and then come back to read the good stuff: https://youtu.be/NP1moGvOHoI Huskies are known for being diva-ish, opinionated, and a total vibe and Daphne is only here to affirm the “stero-type.” Daphne has presence and is the full Husky experience: clever, athletic, a little vocal, and absolutely gorgeous, with a surprisingly cuddly side that will win you over fast. Daphne is estimated to be about 3 years old, weighs 50 lbs, and yes, you guessed it- we suspect she’s a Husky. (Rescue rules apply, so we can’t guarantee breed or birthday.) Huskies often get described as independent and not super dog-social but Daphne would like to challenge that stereotype as well. Is Daphne dog-social? Absolutely. She doesn’t just “do well” with dogs, she gets them. Her foster says Daphne reads dog energy beautifully and adjusts her style depending on who she’s with. She also met a male Husky on a visit with friends and they were instant besties! Confident, fair, and socially fluent, that’s Daphne. Now, let’s talk home life because this is where her foster shares that she really shines. Daphne is a total couch girl and she loves to snuggle up and hand out kisses, but she’s not possessive about it. If another dog is already cuddled up close, she’s perfectly happy to lounge further down the couch like, “No worries, I’ll be cute over here too.” She also enjoys her bed, and sometimes she’s perfectly content flopping on the floor like a fuzzy throw rug. She’s also bringing some very appealing “easy roommate” qualities: • No accidents in the house AKA House and Crate -trained • Sleeps in her kennel all night without any fuss • Travels like a pro: loads up easily and is calm in the car • Bath time? Totally fine with it • She’s learning routine commands and when her foster says “It’s bedtime,” she gets up and follows along to her crate. And because Daphne is smart-smart, not just pretty-smart- she mastered a treat-dispensing toy in five minutes that her foster’s other dogs never figured out. She’s already learned “sit” and “touch,” is close to mastering “stay,” and yes… she can catch treats in the air because of course she can. As for toys, she’s a fan of Nyla bones and balls. She likes stuffies too, but her foster suspects those would become a snowstorm of fluff pretty quickly if left unsupervised. (Husky arts and crafts.) You’ll still hear a little Husky commentary here and there, but her foster notes she’s not nearly as vocal as Huskies can be. Occasional “husky talk,” not a full-time opera. She also corrects easily and responds well to guidance, which makes her a really fun dog to live with and train. A couple notes for setting Daphne up for success: she’ll need a home with a yard and no apartment living. Like a lot of Huskies, Daphne truly thrives with space, structure, no chance of a noise-complaint, and room to be a dog. She’s also curious about water, she’ll happily step onto the first pool step, but her foster hasn’t seen her fully commit to swimming yet. As for her ideal lifestyle, Daphne would be happy with a playful dog friend or as your one-and-only, either option works for her. She’d love a person who appreciates a smart girl who learns fast and comes with a little Husky opinion in the best way, and she’s absolutely the type to enjoy a home where she can keep an eye on the world from the front window. Bonus points if you’re the kind of human who enjoys a dog that loves meeting people, because Daphne is very much a “hi, new friend!” kind of girl. Daphne isn’t just a “look at me” Husky, she’s a “love me” Husky. She’s affectionate, socially savvy, clever as heck, and honestly just a really solid dog with that signature Husky sparkle. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress! We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test or $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions Access to multiple dog trainers in your area, along with $40 off of your first session of in person dog training through Rover Training 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!
