Story
Maui is a beautiful, sweet, and silly 100lb Double Doodle (her wisdom panel shows 45% Labrador Retriever, 32% Golden Retriever, 22% Poodle, and 1% Flat-Coated Retriever). She came to SPAR facing life and death, having to undergo her second gastrointestinal surgery. She luckily pulled through the surgery and the weeks of recovery. She had previously had a foreign body removal 6 months prior as a puppy. Maui is looking for a special home. Having already used two (or more) of her spare lives, her body cannot afford another foreign body removal or gastrointestinal surgery. She cannot have access to any toys or anything left out she can chew on (blankets, dog beds, her leash, plastic dog bowls, etc). She sleeps in her kennel at night and is great around other dogs of all sizes. She is learning about cats in her current foster home and might be okay around dog-savvy cats. She would be okay in a home with older kids that understand the safety concerns of leaving things out where Maui can get into them. She has decent leash manners and enjoys going on walks. She is very smart and would love to take additional obedience classes to bond more with her new family. Maui also has already had an incisional gastropexy, so no future risks of GDV, or “bloat”. Meet Ink Spot - A Gentle Old SoulInk Spot is a 9-year-old sweet boy who came to the shelter as a stray and has been nothing but polite and easygoing. He’s quiet in his kennel, well-mannered, and has a calm presence that makes him a joy to be around. He recently participated in dog-to-dog introductions and did well overall. He was a bit too interested in a potential kennel mate (he’s not neutered yet), so pairing wasn’t the right fit at that time.During his Jog-A-Thon adventure, Ink Spot showed he is walker, not a runner. He loves to sniff, explore at a gentle pace, and soak in the world around him. He can get a little spooked on leash at first, but once settled, he enjoys his strolls. He takes treats gently, is learning “sit,” and seems to be potty trained.This sweet guy is underweight and could use some TLC (and extra treats). He’s also dealing with some tummy troubles likely related to shelter stress, staff and the vet team are already on it. He’s affectionate, gentle, not a barker at all, and truly has excellent manners.Ink Spot is a quiet, loving companion just waiting for someone to give him the comfort and stability he deserves

Meet Milo!At just 8 months old, Milo is the total package, friendly, athletic, confident, and oh-so-affectionate. He recently headed out for a Doggie Day Out adventure and absolutely made the most of it!Milo tackled a 4.5-mile walk/jog/gallop through the Sac State campus like a champ, turning heads with his curious, playful energy. He loved exploring all the sights, sounds, and smells along the American River Parkway, taking everything in with bright-eyed enthusiasm. This boy is built for adventure and would thrive with an active home ready to include him in the fun!After his big outing, Milo enjoyed some backyard fetch time and then happily stretched out for a couple of sunny naps to recharge before heading out again for an afternoon walk. He’s the perfect mix of playful and relaxed.On leash, Milo showed that he’s still a young guy learning about the world. He barked at a passing dog and a squirrel but quickly redirected with a gentle pull and by responding to his name. He’s smart and responsive, just needs a little continued guidance as he grows.In the home, Milo was independent and not overly clingy, but he truly enjoyed being around the two adults there. He was playful yet gentle around an 80-year-old, showing he can adjust his energy to his environment. He loves being petted and soaking up affection, but he’s also confident enough to explore on his own.Milo is a sweet, athletic young pup with a great balance of curiosity, affection, and independence. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion who’s ready for both adventures and sunny afternoon naps, Milo might just be your guy!
