Story
We adopted Stella from a rescue in Mexico when she was 6 months old. By that time she had already survived parvo and distemper! She is a sweet dog but does have anxiety and would do best in a house with a yard and no children. We are finding her a new home because she has started exhibiting concerning behavior towards our toddler. She loves to relax at home and run around our backyard, due to her anxiety she does not like to go on walks. Due to her illnesses as a puppy she does have arthritis that only affects her if she runs too much. She also has history of ACL repair to both back legs and a surgery to her right front leg to correct a damaged radial growth plate (all 3 surgeries were in the first year we had her and she has not had any since then).

Story
Meet Coco Chanel! Coco is a delightful young dog who overcame a challenging start after being abandoned by those meant to care for her. Now thriving in a nurturing foster home with ASR, she has blossomed into a friendly and energetic companion. Coco is playful and has mastered several commands, being trained in both crate, house, and leash use. Coco likes to keep her mind moving, constantly working on her commands. Coco is 2.5 years old and weighs around 45 pounds. Coco would prefer to be the queen of her castle. Although she can be a bit protective and may bark at strangers, once she is given treats, she becomes the gentlest and happiest dog. She is affectionate with people, relishing cuddle time on the couch or bed. Coco needs to stay active; she loves to run and play with enrichment toys. A yard would be perfect for her to expend her energy, and she has a special love for water, especially when the hose is on. To truly thrive, Coco would benefit from an owner who understands her breed and can match her lively spirit, making her an ideal companion for families with older children who are dog savvy and understand the importance of respecting boundaries. She is available for foster-to-adopt! She is also in search of an active foster who can keep her busy with hikes and outings! If interested in fostering Coco, please click HERE! If you would like more info or would like to schedule a playdate, please fill out an application HERE. Coco's adoption fee is $495 and includes her spay, vaccinations, microchip, and flea treatment.

Story
Meet Penny, a delightful teenage girl who arrived at the Bakersfield Shelter as a stray alongside her two brothers. Her two brothers left the shelter while Penny continued to wait patiently. She briefly experienced a patient foster home with dog-savvy cats before ASR intervened and brought her to San Diego. Penny faced a challenge with a previous eye injury that resulted in the loss of one eye, but she is adapting remarkably well, learning to navigate her surroundings with newfound confidence. This energetic pup thrives in an environment with a yard and daily walks, and she gets along well with dogs of all sizes. Penny would flourish in a home with children aged 12 and up who can respect her space, as she can be a bit anxious in unfamiliar situations. A confident canine companion would be a great asset for her as she continues to grow. Penny is in search of a patient and loving forever home—could you be the one to provide it?

Story
Meet Chiquita! This sweet 1-2 year-old lab mix was discovered wandering the streets of Mexico as a stray. Now safe in foster care, this petite lady weighs around 32 pounds—though she photographs a lot larger than she is in real life! Chiquita is a super sweet and cuddly couch potato who just wants to hang out with her people or sunbathe in the yard. She's not a fan of long walks, making her the perfect companion for someone seeking a loyal, low-key girl who's happy to relax by their side. She does wonderfully while her foster parents are away, though sometimes she'll drag one of their shoes or sweaters into her bed to cuddle (don't worry—she doesn't chew on them!). Chiquita is crate, leash, and house trained, and does well in an apartment setting. Chiquita is friendly with other dogs as long as they're calm and not high-energy or in-your-face types—she's a lowkey kind of girl. She would thrive in a home with children aged 10 and older, as she prefers to avoid the unpredictable energy of younger kids. It's believed that Chiquita experiences some side effects of distemper with a shaky leg, but this doesn't prevent her from enjoying a vibrant and joyful life filled with toys, sunshine, and love. Chiquita is looking for a patient family who will appreciate her gentle, easygoing nature. Could that be you?

Story
Meet Cinnamon Roll or also dubbed Roly Poly! He was scheduled to be euthanized at Downey Shelter when amazing strays and his amazing foster stepped in to save him! He is around a year old and believed to be a lab and pittie mix. He is truly a lover boy and is ready for cuddles if can find a way into your lap. He rides well in the car and is house trained. He’s learning the ropes with crate training and learning it’s a safe space to be. He loves his toys and is incredibly smart already knowing commands like “sit”. Cinnamon Roll is still learning what it’s like to be out of the shelter, he gets pretty excited when he sees other dogs and hasn’t been tested either kids but his gentle demeanor leads us to believe he’d love to romp around a yard with them. He’s acclimated to living in a townhouse as well and enjoys walks and hikes. Could Roly Poly be the pup you’ve been searching for?
