Story
We adopted Stella from a rescue in Mexico when she was 6 months old. By that time she had already survived parvo and distemper! She is a sweet dog but does have anxiety and would do best in a house with a yard and no children. We are finding her a new home because she has started exhibiting concerning behavior towards our toddler. She loves to relax at home and run around our backyard, due to her anxiety she does not like to go on walks. Due to her illnesses as a puppy she does have arthritis that only affects her if she runs too much. She also has history of ACL repair to both back legs and a surgery to her right front leg to correct a damaged radial growth plate (all 3 surgeries were in the first year we had her and she has not had any since then).

Story
Meet Coco Chanel! Coco is a delightful young dog who overcame a challenging start after being abandoned by those meant to care for her. Now thriving in a nurturing foster home with ASR, she has blossomed into a friendly and energetic companion. Coco is playful and has mastered several commands, being trained in both crate, house, and leash use. Coco likes to keep her mind moving, constantly working on her commands. Coco is 2.5 years old and weighs around 45 pounds. Coco would prefer to be the queen of her castle. Although she can be a bit protective and may bark at strangers, once she is given treats, she becomes the gentlest and happiest dog. She is affectionate with people, relishing cuddle time on the couch or bed. Coco needs to stay active; she loves to run and play with enrichment toys. A yard would be perfect for her to expend her energy, and she has a special love for water, especially when the hose is on. To truly thrive, Coco would benefit from an owner who understands her breed and can match her lively spirit, making her an ideal companion for families with older children who are dog savvy and understand the importance of respecting boundaries. She is available for foster-to-adopt! She is also in search of an active foster who can keep her busy with hikes and outings! If interested in fostering Coco, please click HERE! If you would like more info or would like to schedule a playdate, please fill out an application HERE. Coco's adoption fee is $495 and includes her spay, vaccinations, microchip, and flea treatment.

Story
A quiet, mellow lady, Tirena is working on building her confidence. While she is interested in people and always comes to check out the volunteers and visitors, she can be unsure around new faces. However, this shy girl loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with another confident dog whose lead she can follow. She is a great medium size and around two years old. A quiet home where this calm girl can settle into a routine and blossom would be ideal for her. She is not demanding and we imagine a bit of patience with her would go a long way to building a strong, deep bond. You can follow her story on our Instagram to see her amazing progress. We are now looking for the next step in her journey where a patient and loving family can help her succeed.

Story
Introducing Chiquita, is a 1-2 year-old lab mix who was discovered wandering the streets of Mexico as a stray. This petite lady weighs around 32 lbs. Chiquita is friendly with other dogs and would thrive in a home with children aged 10 and older, as she prefers to avoid the unpredictable antics of younger kids. It is believed that she experienced some side effects of meningitis. However, this does not prevent her from enjoying a vibrant and joyful life. She loves spending time outdoors, is crate, leash, and house trained. Chiquita adores basking in the sun in the yard or playing with her toys. She would be an excellent companion for any family! Could you be the one for her?

Story
Introducing Riley! Riley was brought to one of our vet partners during the holiday season to be euthanized as he had "become a burden and they needed to travel for family." Thank goodness the vet saw his potential and stepped in and called ASR! We scooped him up to become an Amazing Gray. He is 13 years old and weighs 65 lbs. Riley is sweet, gentle, and leans in for pets and cuddles. Riley is a great walking and hiking buddy! He walks at a steady pace with a loose leash. Now and then, he breaks into a little trot, and it's super cute! He has been on field trips to Fiesta Island and even is a pro at riding in the golf cart! He earned a rave review for being a wonderful travel companion. When at home Riley is very mellow and happily hangs out with his people while they work! He lives with a few other dogs and even cats and does a great job! He has proven himself to be housetrained and loves any and all food! Due to his age, Riley is an Amazing Gray where his medical care is covered for life by the rescue in order to assist in finding a forever home! He currently has no health issues, but just an older and grayer gent! This guy is a stellar pup and deserves nothing but goodness coming his way! Can you be his forever?

These pups are in La Mesa, California too!

Story
Chopper is fully on and off leash trained. This sweet Corgi/Golden Retriever mix knows what it’s like to love deeply. Through no fault of his own, he found himself needing a new start after struggling with a few behavioral quirks that his previous family wasn’t prepared to work through. What is impossible to miss about him is his heart. He’s affectionate, loyal, and eager to connect with his people. He thrives on structure, clear communication, and a patient home that understands that dogs, like humans, sometimes need guidance to feel safe and confident. With consistency and support, he blossoms—showing just how smart, devoted, and loving he truly is. He’s looking for a family willing to see him for who he is, not just what he’s been through. In return, he promises unwavering loyalty, endless tail wags, and plenty of tippy taps in the forever home he deserves. Chopper will do well in homes with children. He will do fine in homes with one other dog and continued structure.
