Story
Jada is just the sweetest girl! This beautiful dog showed up at our shelter in February 2019 as a stray. While we hoped someone would come looking for her, no one ever did. At Jada's intake exam, we sadly discovered that she was heartworm positive and would require treatment. Jada has been undergoing the "slow kill" method of treatment for over a year while learning a lot in our FIDO prison program. She hopes to be heartworm free very soon. Jada does have some bladder issues and needs a daily medication to help with it. She can be a little shy meeting new people and takes some time to warm up, so because of this she would be best in a home without small children. Jada can picky with her canine friends and prefers a home without cats. This gorgeous gal is hoping that her new family will come soon and show her what it's like to be a valued family pet!Jada is a member of our FIDO prison program. FIDO dogs are obedience trained and socialized by the prison inmates. The $250 adoption fee covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, de-worming, microchip, and heart worm test (and current with monthly preventative). They are house trained, crate trained, and know their 5 basic commands. If interested in meeting a FIDO dog, please fill out an application online at: inapl.org/adoption-application. Once it's processed, a member of our team will be contact with you.JadaLabrador Retriever mixFemaleDOB: 3/4/2014Weight: 64 lbs.Heartworm Positive

Story
DJ has just the cutest white muzzle! This happy go-lucky guy is hopeful that his new family will be applying for him soon. DJ is an energetic 10 year old Labrador Retriever mix that loves to zoom around and chase toys. Since he has quite a bit of energy, he will require a fenced in yard in his forever home. DJ can be a bit picky with his canine friends and will also need a kitty free home. DJ would be absolutely thrilled if he could be one and only furbaby in your life. He has always dreamed of being an only child! DJ is a member of our FIDO prison program. FIDO dogs are obedience trained and socialized by the prison inmates. Story
"Personal space? What's that?" - Elva Elva is our resident Wiggle Queen and master of the zoomies! This playful pup needs more room to run and a family that can keep up with her energy. She's housebroken and crate trained, and she's got her commands down pat - sit, down, leave it, and off. When it comes to playtime, Elva is a toy enthusiast! Her favorite? Tennis balls, which she can turn into confetti faster than you can say "fetch!"Here's what her foster has to say:"Elva is hands-down the sweetest dog I've ever met. Her approach to cuddles is delightfully chaotic - imagine a wiggle-worm with an unending supply of energy trying to figure out how to settle in for a snuggle. She's got the heart of a lover, even if her technique needs some work. Just keep petting, and she'll eventually find her groove! And forget about ‘me-time'. Elva believes that if you're on the other side of a door, something's gone terribly wrong. Whether you're in the bathroom or taking a nap, she'll be right there, demanding full-time, doorless togetherness. When it comes to playtime, tennis balls are her jam! She's got a knack for turning them into confetti in no time. I had to keep a stockpile because her sad puppy eyes are impossible to resist when she's managed to shred another one. I mean, look at that face! Elva's energy levels are off the charts. She could run a marathon, take a power nap, and be ready for round two before you've even caught your breath. She's a whirlwind of fun, and with her around, life is one endless adventure!"Elva's been known to get the craziest zoomies when she's happy, zipping around with pure joy. While she's lived with other dogs before, she would probably love to be an only dog and be spoiled rotten! She's also had her fill of cats, so a feline-free home would be perfect for her. Elva's ideal family will have kids who are 14 years old or older, ready to join in on the fun and keep up with her antics.Elva can't wait to start her new life with you - it's going to be an adventure packed with love, laughter, and a whole lot of zoomies!

Story
Resilient and full of heart, Gruff's journey has shaped him into the remarkable dog he is today. A year ago, Gruff and his owners lost their home in a fire, leaving him with scars as reminders of that tough time. Since then, Gruff has lived outside on a tie-out, longing for a warm and loving home. When Gruff first arrived at HSHC, he was understandably scared. With time and patience, he blossomed into a social and willing companion. He spent four weeks in an administrative office, charming everyone with his friendly, affectionate, and mellow demeanor. Gruff's gentle and quiet nature, combined with his intelligence and quick bonding, made him a staff and volunteer favorite. Gruff is completely housebroken and was never destructive when left unattended. He loves playing with his toys and readily shares them to start a game. Now, Gruff is a super snuggler who adores forehead kisses and gets along great with older kids. He knows his commands and is eager to share his love and loyalty with a forever family. Could that family be yours? Give Gruff a chance to brighten your days and find the happiness he truly deserves!

If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Hi, I am Kailey! I was a stray brought to our local Indianapolis shelter in February of 2024. I had a severe injury to my rear leg, so the decision was made to amputate it. While walking on three legs is a little more challenging, the surgery has not impeded my ability to stand, sit, or run. My foster mom says that I’m still growing and gaining muscle, so getting exercise is very important to help my mobility. I am a very friendly girl who loves meeting new dogs, humans, and playing with the resident dogs. I mostly ignore the resident cats, although sometimes I like to chase them when I can get away with it. While I would love a home with another doggy sibling to play with, it is not necessary if an active family will take me for walks and give me lots of playtime. I happily share my toys toys with other dogs and occasionally go to doggy day care where I play in small groups. I played with a friend's puppy and my foster mom said I did great! I still get overly excited and can be nippy and jumpy, so a home with older children would probably be best. I am fully housetrained, with no accidents in over a month and a half. I let my foster mom know when I need to go out and will patiently wait until I get outside. I am also handling crate time much better. While I’m not a couch potato, I crash in that cute puppy way when I do need to rest. I would do well with an active family willing to walk me and play ball. I prefer older children but love giving kisses to kids. I can sit, lay down, and am working on shake. I’m not sure, but my foster mom thinks I’m a Lab/Husky mix. I am spayed, weigh approximately 44 lbs., and fully vetted. Right now, I’m long and lean with room to grow but will probably be a medium-sized dog. I am ready for adoption and looking for an active family that can provide me with love, attention, and plenty of playtime. If you think you could be my forever home, please apply soon! DOB: 8/1/23If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. July 26, 2024, 8:03 pm
