Story
Meet Wilma, an adorable 8-month-old, 42-pound, spayed female Lab mix who is searching for her forever home. Currently in our care after being found as a stray, we don't know much about her past—but we can tell you that she has the potential to be an amazing companion. As a typical puppy, Wilma requires a loving family ready to invest time and effort into training her to become a well-mannered adult.Wilma is sociable and gets along well with cats, dogs, and children. Unfortunately, she was returned from adoption because her previous family reported that she liked to playfully chase and nip at the kids. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t replicate this behavior at the shelter, indicating that it may have been situational. We recommend children over 12.While she can be timid and cautious around new people and sights, Wilma quickly warms up and initiates cuddles. She can be easily redirected by loud noises, which could be beneficial for managing any playful nipping. With patience and guidance in a new home, she can learn how to play appropriately. This lovable puppy is worth the effort! Wilma simply needs the right family to help her flourish into the wonderful dog we know she can be. Will you be the one to give her a chance?ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100 NON-LOCAL $140All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
MEET BUDDY — OUR SWEET CHOCOLATE LAB  Buddy weighs about 60 lbs and could use a few more pounds to fill out. He’s 2 years old and a beautiful chocolate Lab with a calm, gentle spirit — the kind of dog who wants nothing more than a soft couch, a quiet home, and a human to adore. And let’s just say… he has discovered his true passion in life: beds, couches, and blankets. If it’s soft, Buddy is convinced it was made specifically for him. He was surrendered to a shelter, through no fault of his own, after chasing a neighbor’s chickens. Buddy does have a prey drive, so he will need a home with no cats, chickens, or small animals. He also prefers to be the only dog — he’s happiest when he doesn’t have to share his people. Buddy is a loving dog that is great with kids and all humans.  Inside the home, Buddy is the definition of a couch potato. He’s relaxed, easygoing, and content just being near you. No chaos, no drama — just a steady, loving companion who wants to be someone’s whole world. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, deeply affectionate dog who will follow you from room to room and curl up beside you every night, Buddy might be the one. He’s ready for his fresh start. Buddy has tested low positive for heartworm; he has no symptoms and is currently on slowkill treatment. All necessary medications will be provided to the adopter, and additional details about his care will be shared once an application is submitted. He is up to date on vaccinations and neutered. and microchipped. Adoption Criteria:  No crating — Use a baby gate if not home Fenced backyard required (no invisible fences) Someone who is home more during the day  Children must be 7 years of age or older  Buddy's adoption fee is $395. Please put in an application on our website. www.indianasaveadog.com  ##2696978##

Story
Fore is a lovable 100 lb Lab mix (approx. 6–8 years old) we adopted in 2022. He’s the perfect mix of couch potato and adventure buddy—he loves naps, long walks, tug-of-war, and keeping a close eye on the neighborhood squirrels through the window. He’s very food motivated, eager to please, and does well on a leash with guidance. He’s crate trained and comfortable being crated when home alone. He is incredibly affectionate and just wants love—belly rubs, butt scratches, and cuddles are his favorite. He’s truly a giant ham. We’re rehoming due to a tough change in family dynamics after welcoming a baby in 2024. He is not aggressive towards humans at all, but his size and excitement are too much for a mobile toddler in a small space. He’d do best as the only pet (no other dogs) and would thrive with a single, couple, or family with older kids who can give him the attention and space he deserves.

Story
MEET BUBBA — 3 YEARS OLD, LAB PYRENEES MIX  Some dogs walk into your life, and you can just feel how badly they want to belong. Bubba is one of them. This big, gentle boy came from Louisiana and was surrendered to the shelter with two other dogs when his owner could no longer afford to care for them. He didn’t understand why everything familiar disappeared overnight — he just knew he had to start over. A few weeks later, another rescue committed to taking him. Bubba was pulled from the shelter and was *so* eager to arrive at his temporary foster home in Louisiana… but at the very last minute, the foster backed out.  Return to the shelter? Start all over again? Instead, Bubba was taken to boarding — where he stayed for two long weeks. He was restless. He lost weight. He paced and cried for human companionship. For a dog like Bubba, “boarding” wasn’t a break… it was heartbreak.  Today, Bubba is finally safe, secure, and understood. He’s around 66 lbs right now and working his way back to his healthy weight of about 80 lbs — a big, loving Lab/Pyrenees boy with the sweetest soul.  Bubba is a shadow dog — the kind who follows you from room to room, grateful just to be near someone who cares. He doesn’t ask for much. Just kindness, consistency, and a family who won’t give up on him. Bubba has some teeth that are ground down, likely from chewing on something rough during a difficult period in his past. Dogs who are tied out sometimes chew to get off the chain. The good news: he has no pain, and he eats normally. It’s just a small reminder of what he’s overcome — and how ready he is for a better life. Bubba has tested positive for heartworm. He shows no symptoms of the infection and is currently on slow kill treatment. All necessary medications will be provided to the adopter, and additional details about his care will be shared once an application is submitted. He is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. Adoption Criteria:  No crating — Use a baby gate if not home Fenced backyard required (no invisible fences)  Someone who is home more during the day  Children must be 7 years of age or older  Bubba is being fostered in South Bend, Indiana. His adoption fee is $395  Please put in an application on our website. www.indianasaveadog.com  ##2696542##
