Story
Toby is a special boy looking for a forever person. He's 4.5 years old and 65 lbs, fully house/crate trained, loves walks and going on car rides. He was owned by an older couple who unfortunately had to go to assisted living so they surrendered him. He lived with an older husky in his previous home but doesn't love most other animals in his space. He does well meeting new people one on one and when he trusts you he will be the best protector and loves to give kisses. He would do best with someone who has a calmer lifestyle and wants a buddy to follow them around and watch out for them. He's had a couple different homes now so would love to have a true forever place of his own! If interested in meeting this dude, please put an application in at www.foreverhomedogs.org!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Jax is a handsome 85lb lab mix guy looking for a retirement home. His previous owners had to move and couldn't take him with them, so he's ready for forever. He is house/crate trained and *loves* exploring the yard and barking at squirrels. He's been fine with easy-going dogs who don't take over his personal space and would be fine as the king of his castle as well. He is always down for a walk or car ride and just wants to be part of a family of his own. His adoption fee is $150 - if interested in meeting this senior lovebug, apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Story
Rowena is an 11 year old lab mix (we did a DNA test and it came back lab/chow/golden retriever/pointer and several others) - about 60 lbs. She is house/kennel trained, and definitely wants to learn how to dog! She was found in 2019 living in a wood pile in Oklahoma protecting her puppies, so has some trauma there that needs worked through and a dedicated adopter will do so much for her. She needs a very structured living environment and a strong dog-savvy owner. She loves to be outside so would enjoy a nice physically fenced yard (no invisible fencing with her history, sorry). Privacy fencing will be preferred as she guards her territory. She will not do well in an apartment setting since she has a fear of strangers and needs muzzled on walks in strange places. She has been through heartworm treatment and will require an adopter who will keep her on preventatives and regular testing. She does well with dogs as long as they aren't tiny/can't be mistaken for squirrels or rabbits. She chases cats. She is food protective with other dogs, so will need to be fed separate / in kennel as a precaution. Once she is comfortable with you, she likes to snuggle and give kisses and hugs -- but it may take a few weeks for her to warm up fully. No kids for Roe -- fast movements and small creatures with her don't mix. Her adoption fee is $150. If you have an easy-going and patient lifestyle that will give this girl the structure she needs and are interested in meeting Rowena, please put an application in at www.foreverhomedogs.org and we will set up a meet with you!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Story
- Loves spending time with people and loves butt scratches - Enjoys chasing tennis balls and chewing on soft squeaky toys - Takes treats very gently - LOVES spray cheese - Does best with a harness on walks - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him (mature home recommended) - Tends to be socially awkward and can be particular about his dog friends; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs and may prefer to be the only dog in his home (dog intro required) - We don't know his history with cats This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. HOW TO ADOPT: This animal is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Matches the energy of whatever rooms he's in and is happy to lounge on the couch or get up and play or go on an adventure - Bonds with new people and friends quickly- Always wants to be by your side once his knows you; will be a great little shadow and is happiest when he's with you - Loves bones and squeaky toys - Likes going on walks and overall does well on a leash- Appears to be potty trained, just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule - Would likely enjoy a yard to run around in in his new home - Previous family said he is still working on crate-training and does best in a plastic crate - Has lived with kids and did well with them, but very young ones might be a bit much, so we think he may do best in a more mature home - Has done great with other dogs in his foster home, but will need to meet any dogs in his new family before going home- Lived with cats and would touch noses with them from time to time but generally gave them distance - Previous family said he may have had separation-related anxiety when one of the family members started a full-time job, but that he had done very well previously when the family left him to run errands; to set adopters up for success we will provide info about working on separation-related anxiety if it should occur This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program.
