Story
Rowena is a 9-10 year old lab mix (we did a DNA test and it came back lab/chow/golden retriever/pointer and several others) - about 60 lbs. She is house/kennel trained, and definitely wants to learn how to dog! She was found in 2019 living in a wood pile in Oklahoma protecting her puppies, so has some trauma there that needs worked through and a dedicated adopter will do so much for her. She needs a very structured living environment and a strong dog-savvy owner. She loves to be outside so would enjoy a nice physically fenced yard (no invisible fencing with her history, sorry). Privacy fencing will be preferred as she guards her territory. She will not do well in an apartment setting since she has a fear of strangers and needs muzzled on walks in strange places. She has been through heartworm treatment and will require an adopter who will keep her on preventatives and regular testing. She does well with dogs as long as they aren't tiny/can't be mistaken for squirrels or rabbits. She chases cats. She is food protective with other dogs, so will need to be fed separate / in kennel as a precaution. Once she is comfortable with you, she likes to snuggle and give kisses and hugs -- but it may take a few weeks for her to warm up fully. No kids for Roe -- fast movements and small creatures with her don't mix. Her adoption fee is $250. If you have an easy-going and patient lifestyle that will give this girl the structure she needs and are interested in meeting Rowena, please put an application in at www.foreverhomedogs.org and we will set up a meet with you!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Malibu is a 1 year old, 50lb, gorgeous terrier mix girl who loves life and everyone in it. She has the very best zoomies and a healthy mix of active energy/snuggles. Malibu has done amazing with dogs of various sizes, cats, and kids! However, with her rambunctious zoomies and play style, we recommend no cats, other dogs at least 30lbs and kids 8 years and up! She is kennel trained, potty trained, and great on leash! Mal is sure to make you laugh every day and has such a fun personality! All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- Likes playing in water and chasing tennis balls - Can be independent here in the shelter and will need some time to decompress once he gets to his new home; will likely open up nicely once he settles in - Knows sit and is VERY food motivated; would be fun to train - Enjoys going on walks and does best with a harness - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him (mature home recommended) - Can be very uncomfortable and unsure of how to act around other dogs; needs to be the only dog in his home right now- The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 66 Age: 6yrs 11mths 1wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org.- Busy pup who loves to connect with people through play and other activities; will likely enjoy physical activity and mental challenges to keep his body and brain busy - Has loved training games while he's been in care with us. He'd be a great candidate for training classes to continue learning! - A mature home would be best for him at this time - May take some time to warm up to new people and situations. During your meet our behavior team will chat about how to help him feel comfortable in those situations - The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
