I'm a survivor who arrived at CAHS in August of 2022 after being discovered abandoned in an apartment when my previous owner moved away. When I arrived, I weighed a hefty 130lbs and had endured severe neglect, but the dedicated staff at CAHS worked tirelessly to help me. Now, a year later, I have shed over 50lbs and received the essential medical care needed to thrive. I'm now prepared to find my forever retirement home. At almost 15 years old, I may be a stubborn old man at times, but I'm always motivated by treats! I absolutely adore going on leisurely walks, and I'm equally content lounging on a cozy bed, napping the day away. Despite my age, I still have plenty of energy and love to share. I would be most comfortable in a calm home where I can be the only pet, but I could potentially coexist with a calm and indifferent animal companion. If you want to meet a fun, active, sweet, snuggly boy who is about a year old, Buddy is your boy. When Buddy is in the crate, he settles and is quiet. And, if you want someone to be your snuggle buddy in bed, Buddy is that for sure. Very sweet. Very quiet, very obedient. He loves to play with toys and sticks and to hike. He is an acrobat when outside playing fetch. Even with lots of stimuli, like sheep and chickens in the neighbors' yards, and guns going off in the back 70 acres, Buddy remains responsive and focused on the play and the person. Buddy is okay with cats and will not chase them as long as there is someone around to tell him not to. He rarely barks, except when you leave the house, and if you tell him to be quiet from outside he will. He always asks to go outside when he needs to pee or poop. Meet Scully a one year old lab mix. Owner surrendered and this little lady knows some commands and strives to please me, she is focused and loves attention. She is made of pure muscle 😅. She hasn’t had an accident in the house yet she does not chew anything other then her toys. She is kennel trained and loves her kennel.So far we realized how great of a dog she is however we have some things to work on. She loves playing with other dogs she doesn’t mind the cat or kids but she is having a hard time allowing anything to walk by her kennel or her food. She has no aggression towards me but becomes reactive when another animal sniffs her things. So we have managed to find ways to adapt. So far blocking off her things for her access has helped and allows her to rest peaceful outside of the kennel. This girl needs someone with time and patience to work with her. Preferably no small kids or cats and the understanding of her having her own space. She doesn’t hesitate to protect her kennel which has resulted in a a couple rugby matches and some scratch’s with my dogs. Now we know the boundaries and we’re working on it and we can’t let some of the small mishaps be the reason we give up so we work for better and love harder. Scully weighs 35 pounds. Hi, my name is Moe! If you are looking for a special dog, you are barking up the right tree! What makes me special is that life started out a little shaky for me and has left me more nervous and scared than the average dog. With time, understanding, patience, and building trust I will open up and be the best companion you could want! As the saying goes, I stick to the 3’s. I need 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks of a consistent routine and time to learn it & 3 months to start feeling at home. At first, I am more comfortable with other dogs and people really scare me, so I would do best with an outgoing friendly dog in the house to show me how to feel comfortable and confident. As time goes on, I get more used to humans but would do best in a single-person home or just a couple (too many people or a lot of children will be too much for me). I like my kennel and my safe dark space. I will come around and hang out more when I trust it is safe. I am kennel trained and working on being better with the leash.
