It was a hot Sunday afternoon, late in the day and a pick up truck approached the bridge going over the small river tributary. Some black dots were scurrying around like little squirrels that were not sure that direction to go. Soon it would be dark and the group would be in even greater danger. They were black Lab mix puppies. All around 15 pounds and all were covered in fleas and of course dirt from never having had a bath in their life. There were 7 and Jay Jay was one of those abandoned 7 pups. The man wasn't going to take them home. He wanted no part of them nor to be stuck with them at his place. A kind woman stepped forward and soon the news trickled down to Critter Cavalry's exceptional foster mom who took two of them in. Jay Jay is learning what air conditioning is like and what a good bath scrub down feels like as the warm water pours over his body washing away his past. He is a lucky pup and receiving love and good food and some normalcy that we are sure he never had before. He is good with other dogs and still hesitant to just go running up quickly to a new stranger. He wants to but he just cannot trust to do that yet. He will come to those that he knows. Two weeks is not enough time to reprogram a young soul that has never been a part of a family. But since he is young he will become new in all the ways of learning trust. He knows about pee pads and would love a fenced yard to run with true fun and free abandon any time his human can let him outside. This boy will be a 75 pound Lab when fully grown. We think he might have a touch of hound in him.... no Pitbull that we can see at all. We know nothing of his parents, just that someone carelessly threw his litter out of a car or truck on that bridge and sped off and never looked back. Jay Jay is looking forward and we are encouraging him every day to learn a leash and harness can be his doorway to experiencing exciting new places and good fun walks. Bradley Cooper is what we call a Fireworks Dog. Found in the middle of the road and scared on a Pre-Fourth of July evening on July 3rd, this handsome dog was terrified as it was storming and early fireworks were going off on the evening before the 4th of July. His kind rescuer couple saw his distress and confusion and took him home to clean him up and sooth his nerves. Their reassurance and kindness got an immediate response of joy, tail wags and gratitude from Brady Cooper. He seemed to know that he was safe and cared for the moment they got him home. What you will see immediately about Brady Cooper is that he has a heart of gold and the desire to be friends quickly with everyone he meets. Even at the vet's office when he was delivered to be neutered, he won all of the office staff over immediately with his refreshingly easy going temperament and his smile. He loves to be around people and he wins them over every time. He is still a puppy and jumps up when he gets excited like a lot of dogs do when they are starved for attention and not taught how to be good and mindful of their size. A little training and the jumping can subside and go away. Bradley Cooper appears to be a yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix and is young at only one year and weighs 57 pounds. This golden nugget has never made a mess inside or in his kennel as long as he has been in foster care. This boy loves going for walks and playing in the fenced in yard. There is nothing like being around a dog that has a sunshine soul that will make your worries go away when you are with him. Louis — The Big, Playful Lovebug Meet Louis, a 1-year-old, 55-lb boy who is playful, fun, and full of personality. Louis had a scary start to life. As a puppy, he was found on the streets after being attacked by another dog. That experience understandably stuck with him, and while Louis can learn to trust other dogs, he needs time, patience, and slow introductions before he feels safe around them. He does, however, do well with cats! With people, Louis is a sweet, playful guy who loves having fun and being part of the action. He’s also potty trained and past the tiny puppy stage, making him a great companion for someone looking for a young dog without starting completely from scratch. Louis didn’t get the carefree puppyhood he deserved, but he hasn’t let that take away his love for life. He’s looking for a family who will understand his past, give him the security he needs, and let this big, goofy boy finally enjoy being someone’s beloved dog. Meet Cici, Eumy’s tiny little sister and the smallest of all 12 siblings. At 2 months old, she weighs just 2.5 lbs — but this teeny girl has an enormous amount of love to give. Cici and her 11 siblings were found tucked into the rocks of a beach in Puerto Rico, trapped inside a little beach cave with the tide coming in. Rescuers climbed down into the rocks and pulled the babies out one by one before the water could reach them. Cici was the littlest of them all. And this girl is an absolute human lover. Cici loves, loves, LOVES people and would happily spend her entire day being carried around in someone’s arms. She is incredibly sweet, cuddly, affectionate, and just wants to be as close to her humans as physically possible. If there is an available lap, Cici plans on being in it. Based on her size now, our vet’s best guess is that Cici will stay under 25 lbs fully grown, but with rescue puppies, adult size is always a bit of a mystery! Cici is currently in Puerto Rico and is already on the docket to head stateside to a foster home — unless her forever family finds her first! Cici was almost washed away before her life had even begun. Now all this tiny girl wants is exactly what she loves most: a human to hold her close and never let her go.

Sadie is a rescue dog. The shelter she was adopted from did not know her history other than she came from the South somewhere. She is 11 years old - we think - (vet's estimate). She is a sweet dog, loves attention, riding in my truck, ice cream, and the neighbor kids when they take care of her for me. Inside she is calm and well behaved. Outside she is a "puller", wanting to explore everything and follow every scent. Being elderly, I feel she needs a home with room to play and run, as I am unable to do that with her. As I age, as a retired firefighter with some health issues from the job, I worry that I will not be able to continue to take care of her. She is very sharp and alert, and obviously needs - and deserves - more activity and attention than I can give her. She acts like a much younger dog, and I want her to be able to have fun and enjoy a more active and interesting lifestyle. She received a good health report last month at her annual check-up.

Posted November 2025 FALKOR is a handsome combination of Labrador Retriever and Australian Shepherd, and he possesses the wonderful qualities for which both breeds are known and loved! This athletic 18 month old pup has had the great fortune of living with wonderful foster families so we have some great info to provide. Falkor weighs 49 lbs. Falkor is definitely the kind of dog who must be part of the family. He thrives on human companionship and while he is friendly with other dogs, he prefers to interact and bond with "his" people. He has coexisted with several adult cats and was very respectful and observed boundaries. Falkor is also great with children, and would be a wonderful addition to a family with kiddos. This sweet boy enjoys the outdoors, exploring and looking for twigs and good smells on his walks. A fenced yard would be a great bonus so he can roll in the leaves and soak up the sun. He walks very well on leash and benefits from a harness Falkor is crate=trained and house trained, but like any dog there will be an adjustment period while he learns new routines. He is not accustomed to being kenneled for long periods of time, so his ideal home would be one where he doesn’t have a long alone day. Falkor’s Maine foster family says he is doing so well! He may not have seen stairs before because he comes down them just fine but needs coaxing to go up. He can get excited and jump on new people so they are working on that with Falkor. He plays great with dogs and kids who are patient and respectful. Falkor is FAST and playful. He’s been eating in his crate and doing well. He gets extra excited around meal times and he will learn to settle easier once he has a routine and realizes he never will have to worry about being fed again. Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England.
