Story
Big, beautiful, and full of life — Channing is a young chocolate lab with a story that deserves the happiest of endings. He came to BENCHS after being seized by the Police Department when he was found abandoned in a rental unit. When he arrived to the impound, he was severely emaciated… but this incredible boy never stopped fighting for his second chance. Today, thanks to good care and good food, Channing is a healthy nearly 80 lbs, and he’s finally ready to find the family he’s always deserved. Channing is estimated to be around 2 years old, though he has all the playful, goofy energy of a much younger pup. True to his lab roots, he LOVES toys — give him a big bucket of them and he’ll happily scatter them around the house as he entertains himself. He thrives with exercise, enrichment, and an active lifestyle. He is sweet and friendly, but because he still takes treats with a lot of enthusiasm, we recommend a home without very small children while he continues working on gentle manners. He is also a strong dog physically and will benefit from a family comfortable with big, energetic breeds. Channing is dog-selective, especially with intact males (which he did not care for at the impound). He may do best as an only dog or with a carefully matched companion. We’re still unsure how he feels about cats. Despite everything he’s been through, Channing is a happy, joyful dog with a huge heart. He’s ready to leave his past behind and start the next chapter — one filled with love, play, stability, and a family who will never abandon him again. If you’re looking for a fun, loyal, energetic companion who will adore you with his whole giant lab heart, Channing might be your perfect match.

Good with dogs,
Story
Bernie is a happy, goofy young pup who is just over 5 months old and already weighing in at 30 lbs, with plenty of growing left to do. He’s a high-energy, silly lab-mix type (we can’t say for sure, but his looks and personality sure suggest it!) who brings enthusiasm and smiles wherever he goes. This sweet boy loves food and bully sticks and is extremely treat-motivated, which makes training both fun and rewarding. Bernie would do well as an only dog, or in a home with a kind, well-mannered older dog who can help show him the ropes. He is currently working on potty training and learning how to crate train, so he’ll need a patient, consistent family ready to continue his puppy education. We are unsure how Bernie would do with cats, but at his young age, he is typically very trainable with proper introductions and guidance. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate pup with lots of potential and a classic goofy lab-mix vibe, Bernie may be the perfect addition to your family

Story
Denver is a very sweet, affectionate boy who shows his love in the most endearing way—lots and lots of kisses. If you’re a fan of doggy licks, Denver is absolutely your guy. Licking is his love language, and he’s always eager to share affection with his people. Denver is extremely food-motivated and very eager for treats. Because of this, we believe he may have experienced food insecurity earlier in life, which has made him especially focused on snacks and mealtimes. This also means he’s highly motivated for training, as food is a big reward for him. He would likely do best as an only dog, where he can feel secure and confident, or possibly with another very social, well-trained dog who respects boundaries. We are unsure how Denver would do with cats, but given his young, trainable age, he has great potential with proper introductions and guidance. Denver is a loving, eager-to-please pup who just wants consistency, reassurance, and plenty of positive reinforcement. With the right home, he’ll repay you with loyalty, devotion, and endless kisses

To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Laddie has come out of his shell so much since arriving in foster care. He can take a little time to warm up, but once he knows you, he truly enjoys affection and seeks out pets. If he’s resting on the couch and you sit next to him, all he wants is gentle loving. He absolutely loves his walks and has a fantastic nose, stopping often to sniff and take in the world around him. He is house trained, leash trained, and does well both kenneled and unkenneled in the home. He takes treats gently and has good manners. Laddie plays well with other dogs and has lived peacefully with seven dogs in his foster home, including a three-month-old puppy. He even enjoys spending time in his kennel, which he finds comforting. Laddie and his sister were found as strays and spent several months confined together in a kennel at a woman’s home. When Laddie first arrived in Minnesota, he was very fearful and spent his first few days hiding outside. Since then, he has made wonderful progress. He now comes when called, enjoys time in the backyard, walks nicely on leash, and allows handling and affection. While he is still shy with new people, it’s clear that he wants human connection. Laddie will need a patient, understanding home that allows him time to adjust and feel safe in new surroundings. On walks, he loves following scents and watching birds in the fields. He is on the smaller side for a Lab and, with continued kindness and consistency, will be a truly wonderful companion. About Me:  I still can’t believe how long that drive was to Minnesota. I’m really happy to be here, even though I was very scared at first. A lot has happened in my first year of life, and I’m looking for a family who will take their time with me and help me learn what being a dog is all about. HASRA rescued my sister and me from living in a kennel for months on Christmas Day, and what a relief that was. Now I’m in Minnesota and determined to find the family who will bring out the best in me. Please consider filling out an application so we can meet. Thanks, LaddieJanuary 11, 2026, 10:43 am
