He came to BENCHS after being seized by the Police Department when he was found abandoned in a rental unit. When he arrived to the impound, he was severely emaciated… but this incredible boy never stopped fighting for his second chance. Today, thanks to good care and good food, Channing is a healthy nearly 80 lbs, and he’s finally ready to find the family he’s always deserved. Channing is estimated to be around 2 years old, though he has all the playful, goofy energy of a much younger pup. True to his lab roots, he LOVES toys — give him a big bucket of them and he’ll happily scatter them around the house as he entertains himself. He thrives with exercise, enrichment, and an active lifestyle. He is sweet and friendly, but because he still takes treats with a lot of enthusiasm, we recommend a home without very small children while he continues working on gentle manners. He is also a strong dog physically and will benefit from a family comfortable with big, energetic breeds. Channing is dog-selective, especially with intact males (which he did not care for at the impound). He may do best as an only dog or with a carefully matched companion. We’re still unsure how he feels about cats. Despite everything he’s been through, Channing is a happy, joyful dog with a huge heart. He’s ready to leave his past behind and start the next chapter — one filled with love, play, stability, and a family who will never abandon him again. When Laddie first got to MN he was very afraid and hid outside for the first few days. I can now pet him and take him for walks, and bring him to the backyard, and he comes in when called. He wants to have people pet him, but is shy with new people. He plays well with other dogs. He has been in my house with 7 other dogs, and one was a 3-month-old puppy, and he did well with them. He loves to hang out in his kennel. He will need a patient home where he can get used to the new surroundings and feel comfortable. On our walks, he displays a good nose for scents and loves seeing the birds in the field. He is on the smaller side for a Lab and will be a very nice dog given some time. About Me: I can’t believe how long that drive was to MN. I am really happy to be here, even though at first I seemed very scared. I’ve had a lot of things happen to me in my first year of life. Domino was found as a stray and never claimed. He was born in March of 2022. He is an 80 lb Lab mixed with an energetic goofball. He should be fine with older kids and adults. Domino has some dog friends here, but isn't fond of others, so an introduction to your dog would be a good idea to see if they click. Domino also should be in a cat free home. Domino has a big personality and loves attention, he keeps a clean kennel here, so the transition to home should be easier. Domino really wants a home and a family. Will you come and make his dreams come true? All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes.
