Story
Hi, I’m Silo 🐾I’m about 5 years old and full of energy, love, and personality! I love to run, play, and be outside, so I’d do best with someone who can give me plenty of exercise and fun adventures.I’m a loyal and affectionate companion who loves being around people and other dogs. Wherever you go, I’ll want to be right by your side! I’m house-trained, I come when called, and I’m a very smart girl who’s eager to learn and please.I’m still working on a few things like leash walking and not jumping when I get excited, but I’m very attentive and with a little consistency, I’ll learn quickly.I would do best in a home without very young children. I am better with kids who understand how to be gentle and respectful with dogs. I have so much love to give and do best in a calm, understanding environment. I’ve done great with older kids and absolutely love meeting new people. If you’re looking for a fun, loving, and devoted best friend, I could be the perfect match for you 🤍

Story
PO is a super friendly and sweet boy who was adopted out years ago but wasn't doing well with the new baby, now toddler, in the home, and was returned. His owners are heartbroken but don't want to take any chances. He's 7 years old and such a nice dog, but has resource guarding issues, esp around food, which is a bad combination with a toddler. He's great with cats, but can also be iffy on other dogs, so we'd love to find a home where he can be the only dog. He is fully vetted and just had surgery to amputate the end of his tail bc he had a chronic case of "happy tail" from his exuberant wagging which actually cause his tail to always be open and infection to set in. He doesn't miss it a bit and his little nub still wags like crazy as soon as he sees anyone! 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

🐾 WILDA and her sister WINNIE (she's black) are sisters who just came to us and are settling in with their fosters. ALPHIE - This action packed, incredibly brilliant black lab mix is ready and waiting for someone to spend the rest of his life with! When we say brilliant we really mean it. Alphie is wildly smart and eager to please. We pulled Alphie from one of our local shelter partners in NY because we felt he deserved a chance in a foster home and to hopefully find his home! He was working hard in their training program at the Adoption Center and has learned tons of commands! To mention a few… Alphie knows how to sit, heel, look, down, stay, leave it, wait at doorways, ring a bell with his nose, step on a target with his two front feet, place (go to his bed and stay) and even middle which is to go between your legs and look up at you! If you say “Alphie, come!” he will stop on a dime and return directly to you! Alphie is an exuberant, happy boy who fills up every space he enters with fun-loving, zesty energy. He’s quick on his feet and super agile. This boy wants to go, go, go! He can’t get enough of fetch games and truly thrives being outside in the elements. Rain, shine or snow, Alphie is the best version of himself when his exercise and enrichment needs are met. The lucky household who comes to adopt or foster Alphie will instantly be drawn into his irresistible play bubble day after day! While Alphie is an athletic dog, he does have an excellent chill button. After a walk or romp in the yard, Alphie will totally take advantage of the opportunity to relax. You will almost always find him laying at someone’s feet or right by their chair. Alphie may even pop his two front feet on your lap for some extra pets! This affectionate boy is always seeking connection and wants to be near! He also wants to be your ONLY dog - he'll make it worth your while. ** ALPHIE comes with a partially sponsored adoption fee of $100 from someone who felt drawn to him but wasn't able to adopt, to help him find his perfect home. ** or, ** He's also available as a part of our new Forever Foster program, where we can place him with an approved applicant as a member of their family at no cost, and we will cover all his vetting - regular, emergency, preventatives, vaccines - for life, as well as extra supports like transportation to appointments, and "boarding" if needed for vacations, FOR LIFE! Ask for more details.** 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). Story
🐾 APOLLO is a local surrender whose owner could no longer keep him as they were moving to a place where no pets allowed. He's just 11 months old and a gorgeous puppy who has a great temperament and has gotten along with everyone he's met so far, human and animal alike! Beautiful dog who will make a great addition to someone's family. We've got him all vetted including neuter and he's ready for his forever home! He's 53 lbs.
