Story
Meet Lacey – A Sweet Soul Ready to Heal Lacey is a gentle, affectionate girl who’s been through more than her fair share—but she’s still holding onto hope. Thought to be a Lab-hound (or possibly Lab-beagle) mix, this petite sweetheart weighs around 38–40 pounds. While her current condition makes it hard to know her exact breed mix, one thing is clear: she’s full of love. Lacey is currently being treated for demodex mange and a yeast infection, and her vet-prescribed medications will go with her to continue care. She doesn’t require immediate bathing, just a calm, safe place where she can rest and heal. Despite her physical state, Lacey’s sweet spirit shines through. She’s gentle, quiet, and easy to be around—grateful for every bit of kindness she’s shown. What Lacey needs most now is a soft place to land, a home or rescue where she can finally feel safe and begin her journey back to health. She deserves a second chance—and someone to show her how good life can be. If you can help Lacey start her new chapter, please email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com. She’s waiting.

Story
Meet Pinky – A Laid-Back Sweetheart Looking for Her Forever Home Hi there! I’m Pinky, a roughly 4-year-old, 70 lb lab shepherd mix with a gentle spirit and a heart full of love to give. I’ve been patiently waiting for a quiet, caring home where I can feel safe and finally exhale. The shelter is a scary place for me — so loud and chaotic that I often retreat to the back of my kennel just to cope. But once I’m outside and away from the stress, I truly come alive. I blossom in calm, familiar spaces, especially with the company of other friendly pups. I love soft affection, quiet strolls, and the feeling of safety and connection. Because I can be a little nervous at times, I’ve shown I can be an escape artist, so I’ll need a secure fence or to be leash-walked for my safety. Pinky is spayed and up to date on vaccinations, and she’s ready for a fresh start with someone who will give her the time and patience she needs to shine. If you’re looking for a tender, low-key companion who just needs a little time and love to flourish, I could be the one. Come meet me, Pinky, at the shelter today — or email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com with “Pinky” in the subject line to learn more. I’m ready for peace, for comfort, and for my forever. Maybe it’s with you?

Abe was found as a stray in mid-October, but you’d never know it from his gentle nature and good manners. Abe is affectionate, well-mannered, and easy to love. He enjoys walks, attention, and any opportunity to be close to his people. His kind eyes and sweet personality make him the kind of companion who just fits right in. He’s also neutered, dog friendly, kid friendly, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated — truly ready for a smooth transition into a forever home. Story
Hi, I'm Remmy! I love exploring every nook of my world, sniffing out adventures and making everyone laugh with my goofy antics. Curling up next to a friend is the best way to spend my day because I have so much love to give. I grew up in a home of humans that work from home so while I'm used to a lot of snuggle time, I am also just as content being left alone. My loyalty runs deep; once I find my person, I'm devoted for life. I'm used to a laid back routine, a fenced yard, and sharing my home space with my sister, who is also looking for a new home. While it would be great if we could be adopted together, I would also fit well in a home by myself or with another friendly dog, though I am not neutered yet. I'm just waiting to share all my love and curiosity with a family who needs a bit of laughter and a lot of loyalty. If you want a forever friend to explore and relax with, I'm your guy!

Story
Hi, I'm Sabrina! I am laid back and love a simple routine, but am also excited to explore the world. Though I cherish quiet moments like basking in the sun, I can easily be convinced to go for a walk, a hike, or even pull my owner on a skateboard! Me and my toy ball are inseparable and I'm always eager for a game of fetch or tug of war with it. My independent spirit means I'm content on my own but always loyal to those I love. I've also mastered the art of being super attentive to human's moods and am always ready to offer love, cuddles, and gentle kisses during anxious or hard times. Because I was attacked as a puppy, other big dogs make me upset, however I get along with some smaller dogs and my brother (who is also looking for a new home). Ideally, we could be adopted together, but I'm also perfectly content being an only pet. If you're looking for a sweet soul to share in both peaceful and playful times, I'm your girl!

Story
🐾🤍 Meet Champ — The Gentle, Treat-Loving Teddy Bear 🤍🐾 Say hello to Champ, a 3-year-old mixed breed heartthrob (we’re guessing maybe a little Lab, Pyrenees, or even Irish Wolfhound in the mix!) weighing in around 65–70 pounds of pure love. We’re still getting to know this handsome boy, but one thing is already clear: Champ is sweet to his core. From the moment you meet him, you can see his gentle nature shine through. 🌟 What We’ve Learned About Champ So Far: • Affectionate sweetheart: He willingly takes treats from your hand and loves placing his paws in your lap to ask for more attention. • People-focused: Champ truly seeks affection — he wants to be close and loved, and he gives that love right back. • Food-motivated smarty: His love of treats makes him a great candidate for continued training and bonding. • Learning the ropes: Leash walking may be new to him, so a patient adopter who can help him build skills and confidence will help him thrive. • Prefers being the one-and-only: Champ wasn’t a fan of another dog at the shelter, so he’ll do best as the only dog in the home where he can soak up ALL the love. Champ’s gentle energy and eagerness to connect make him truly special. With a kind heart and a hopeful spirit, he’s ready to find the person or family who will show him what it means to be cherished.

Story
🌼 Meet Winny — A Gentle Heart Ready to Bloom 🌼 Winny is a 2–3-year-old, 55-pound tan mixed-breed girl (maybe a little lab, shepherd, or hound magic mixed in) who is just beginning to discover how good life can be. She’s still relatively new to the shelter, and like many sensitive souls, Winny was a bit apprehensive at first. But every single day, she’s making progress — trusting a little more, wagging a little harder, and letting her sweet personality shine through. Watching her come out of her shell has been incredibly rewarding. ✨ What We’re Learning About Winny: Easy to leash up in her kennel — polite and cooperative Walks beautifully on leash and enjoys exploring her surroundings Knows how to sit and gets very excited about treats (while taking them oh-so-gently) Happy and tail-wagging once she’s out and about Curious, calm, and quietly joyful Winny doesn’t demand attention — she earns your heart with her softness and sincerity. She’s the kind of dog who will thrive with a patient, kind adopter who understands that confidence grows with consistency and love. If you’re looking for a companion to explore the world with at her own pace, to celebrate small wins, and to build a deep bond with, Winny could be your girl. She’s ready for someone to believe in her — and she’ll repay that faith with loyalty and love. Come meet Winny at the shelter. Sometimes the quiet ones are the ones who need us most. 💛🐾

Story
Meet Ivy! This gorgeous girl is around 1-2 years old. We are unsure what she is mixed with, but we are guessing she has some husky in her due to her antics. She is such a sweet girl and SUPER energetic. She would love a family that goes to the lake, river or has a pool, she is a MAJOR water dog. She is looking for a super active family that can take her on long walks and plenty of adventures. She has done well with dogs she has met here but meet and greets are required. She would do well with children as long as she does get her energy out just due to the jumping around as she can be a wrecking ball at times. If interested in Ivy, the shelter is open Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm pending on if staff is in the building. You can also call the shelter at 804-520-9397 ext. 5 to set up an appointment!
