Story
Willa is a beautiful, roughly 4-year-old, 70 lb Lab Shepherd mix whose world has recently opened up in the best way. Formerly known as Pinky, Willa has spent time in board and train, and with structure, consistency, and space to decompress, her true personality has really come through. Willa is still figuring out how to play, and it is impossible not to smile watching her try. She has endearing, slightly chaotic pounces and “is this how this works?” moments that perfectly capture her personality. She is adventurous, enthusiastic, and clearly making up for lost time. This girl is goofy, jumpy, and mouthy when she’s excited in a very typical, puppy-like way. She may jump up and grab at drawstrings, not in a rough or aggressive way, just in an awkward, excited “I don’t know what to do with my feelings” kind of way. She is actively working on manners and impulse control and will continue to need guidance and consistency as she learns. Willa doesn’t rush into new situations. She observes first, builds confidence at her own pace, and once she feels safe, her playful side comes out in full force. She loves other dogs and truly needs a dog companion in her adoptive home. Having a confident, friendly dog around helps her feel secure and brings out her best self. Willa is crate trained, house trained, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. She will do best with an adopter who understands that confidence and manners are built over time and who can continue the structure and training she has started. Because she can be nervous in unfamiliar situations, she will need a secure fence or to be leash walked for safety. Willa has so much life and joy ahead of her. The right home will get to be part of her learning, growing, and discovering just how fun the world can be. If you’re looking for a goofy, dog-loving companion with a big personality and even bigger potential, Willa may be your girl. Story
Dollie is truly the best pup. She is completely house trained, wonderful with kids, friendly with strangers, cuddly, smart, curious, and quiet. She settles easily into a home environment and loves being close to her people. Dollie came to us with an injured paw, and from day one she has shown nothing but sweetness, patience, and trust. Even during bandage changes and treatments, she has been the perfect patient, leaning gently into our hands and looking up with the softest eyes. She is a very special young dog. At just about a year old, Dollie has her whole life ahead of her. She is affectionate, gentle, and people-oriented. She is also dog friendly and enjoys the comfort of canine companions just as much as human attention. Dollie is currently in a short-term foster home where she has been able to rest and heal, and thanks to this placement she is now expected to make a full recovery. Her paw wound is healing beautifully and is anticipated to be fully re-healed by mid-February, giving her a smooth and positive path forward. Now that Dollie’s recovery is well underway and her outlook is excellent, we are eager to find her forever home as soon as possible. She has already done the hard part. All she needs now is a loving, committed home where she can continue to thrive. If you are interested in adopting Dollie or would like to learn more about her, please reach out to us at adoptpetersburg@gmail.com. Dollie has shown incredible resilience and grace, and she is ready to move forward into the safe, loving home she deserves.

Story
Hi, I'm Sabrina! I am laid back and love a simple routine, but am also excited to explore the world. Though I cherish quiet moments like basking in the sun, I can easily be convinced to go for a walk, a hike, or even pull my owner on a skateboard! Me and my toy ball are inseparable and I'm always eager for a game of fetch or tug of war with it. My independent spirit means I'm content on my own but always loyal to those I love. I've also mastered the art of being super attentive to human's moods and am always ready to offer love, cuddles, and gentle kisses during anxious or hard times. Because I was attacked as a puppy, other dogs make me upset, so I need to be an only pet. If you're looking for a sweet soul to share in both peaceful and playful times, I'm your girl!

Story
✨ Meet Champ — A Big, Scruffy Love with Couch Dreams ✨ Champ is a 70-pound, cream-colored, wiry-haired dreamboat with soulful eyes, scruffy good looks, and the softest heart. Around 2–3 years old, he looks like a delightful mystery mix — maybe Great Pyrenees, maybe Irish Wolfhound, definitely 100% good boy. Champ takes his treats very seriously (respectfully, gently, and with full focus). Once he feels safe, he’ll place his paws in your lap, lean in for affection, and quietly ask for love. Outside the shelter, his sweet, playful personality truly shines. When Champ first arrived, the world felt overwhelming — but this brave boy has made incredible progress. He now enjoys walks and continues to build confidence every day. Loud noises can still be a little scary, so he’d do best in a calmer home where life moves at a gentler pace. 💛 Why we adore Champ: ✔️ Gentle, affectionate, and eager to bond ✔️ Very treat-motivated and fun to train ✔️ Enjoys walks and keeps gaining confidence ✔️ Likes walking alongside another dog ✔️ May prefer being your one-and-only at home ✔️ Would thrive with a fenced yard to stretch his legs ✔️ Firm believer that couches are meant for snuggles Champ is searching for a patient, loving home where he can finally exhale, keep growing, and settle into life as someone’s cherished companion. If you’re looking for a loyal, scruffy sidekick with a heart of gold, Champ is ready to meet you. Come see him at Hopewell Animal Services — his happily ever after is waiting. 🤍🐶

Story
Meet Izzy! This girl was an owner surrender at no fault of her own. She was surrendered with Roscoe and Hemi. She can be dog selective so meet and greets are required if you have another dog. She did live with a cat and did fine. Izzy is around 4 years old. She will be protective of you and the property....just ask our officers hiney, Izzy thought it looked delicious when she was on her previous owners property and decided she wanted a snack, so she does have a bite under her belt with minimal blood drawn. Once she gets to know you and trusts you she is a very sweet girl I mean just look at that face!

Story
Murphy was found as a stray. He’s a very good boy and has had basic puppy obedience classes. Unfortunately for personal issues going on in our life we are not able to keep him. He would be a great family dog. He’s very social, potty trained, and loves kids. Best estimate is he’s about eight or nine months old. He’s fully up-to-date on his vaccines and his microchipped.
