Story
Meet Veruca !! This girl needs a special adopter but you’ll get the sweetest, loyal girl in return if you’re willing to work with her on her shyness. We took Veruca and her sister Violet (already adopted) from a shelter where they had been for months. They were shut down and terrified. Once separated and into foster families they are really growing in confidence and learning how to trust. Despite the shy aspect they have done excellent with their manners and living indoors. Vercua is an approx 9 month old female lab mix weighing 38 pounds. She has already been spayed, microchipped and updated on vaccines. Thankfully she is heartworm negative. This little girl LOVES to play. She’s super fun. We joke that she’s part goat due to her loving to be up high on things and her “par cor” antics when she plays. She’s shy with people but we know that break through is coming soon as she is just so happy and joyful about life. Veruca is amazing with all dogs. Young or old, big or small she’s fantastic with them. She does best with another dog to play with and to help her through her shy moments. She is also excellent with kids. They are way less scary to her than adults are. She may accidentally knock over small kids when she’s in her hyper play mode. We are not sure how she would do with cats. She has done very well adjusting to indoor living. She is great in her crate and is not vocal in there. Despite her shyness with people she learned the foster home routine quickly and will run in to the room with her crate and wait beside it to go in. She has also had no potty accidents when crated and let out regularly. She does very well on car rides. She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. Her biggest fear is the leash. She’s terrified of it and will flail around or pancake when she feels the tension. We are working with her but it will take time. Due to this she has to go to a home with a fenced in yard. She happily exists around you but is still a bit fearful of someone reaching for her. She’s never been aggressive and you can pick her up even when she’s scared. Veruca LOVES treats. She’s happy to come grab those from you and will sneak up and “boop” you with her nose and run. It’s a fun game for her. So while she isn’t the jump in your lap and cuddle type just yet she is easy to have around despite her fear. She is a fairly active girl. Loves running and jumping and has tons of zoomies. She’s so happy to be out of the shelter and have the ability to let loose and play. She loves toys and will play alone or with others. She throws her toy up and plays alone, it’s super cute. She’s not that perfect “normal” dog most people want but if you’re one of those special people that want to really rescue and save a dog then she might be the one. She’s extremely sweet and we don’t think it will take long before she puts her past behind her and fully trusts again. Vet and home checks required. Fenced Yard Required Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING OR FOR MORE INFORMATION Please message our facebook page or VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. ‼️

Story
Po is a six year old lab mix he was one of twelve from my parents black lab so we've had him since birth. He is a very active dog and is very affectionate loves to play ball very attentive. I'm looking for someone who is able to be active with him and appreciate a very affectionate dog as I have. The reason I am looking for a new home for him is because I am leaving for the marine corps and won't be able to take him with me. He is a very sociable dog and will bark to get your attention. Overall a very healthy dog as has been neutered since 2019. He will always try to cuddle with you on the bed or couch. He is alright on the leash needs a bit more training, he won't chase after any small kids or animals on the leash. He is great with kids. Good running buddy, likes the streets and loves a good nap.

Story
Lazlo is the kind of dog who knows when it’s time to play fetch and when it’s time to flop across your lap like a 60-pound sigh. He’s four years old, housetrained, and gentle with kids and other dogs. He plays fair. He snuggles like a pro. He’s mastered the basics -- sit, stay, paw -- because of course he has. Lazlo’s a very good boy with a solid resume. And when it comes to other dogs? He’s a social optimist. He lights up when another dog wags at him, all eager to make friends. And if they bark or growl? Lazlo just walks away, like, “No hard feelings. I’ll go sniff something else.”He’s sweet, silly, and ridiculously well-behaved. Basically, if you asked a dog to be everything good about dogs, you’d get Lazlo. So why is this dog -- this wonderful, loyal, loving dog -- living in a shelter?Because someone looked at his very normal, not-at-all-pit-bull face and said: “Eh… too square.”That’s it. That was the logic. And just like that, his military family, who’d done everything right to bring him along to their next duty station, was told no -- no Lazlo allowed.Their hearts broke. So did ours. This family had already given up comfort, stability, and home after home for the sake of service. And now they had to give up their dog, too? That’s not how this should go.Lazlo had spent three years excelling as someone’s hiking buddy, cuddle companion, road trip co-pilot, and best friend. He brought joy when things were heavy and calm when things were loud. He knows how to love. And now he’s ready to do it all over again. If you’re looking for a dog who knows how to be part of the team -- who reads the energy, rolls with the chaos, keeps the peace, and even offers you a paw while doing it -- come meet Lazlo. He's waiting for you at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Visiting hours are daily from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.PLEASE SHARE. Let’s get Lazlo back into a home -- because the shape of his head shouldn’t shape the rest of his life. And because military families deserve better than this. And so does Lazlo.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
